RNC Tells TV Stations Not to Run Anti-Bush Ads

GOP committee says MoveOn.org's spots are illegally financed.

  WASHINGTON - The Republican National Committee is warning television stations across the country not to run ads from the MoveOn.org Voter Fund that criticize President Bush, charging that the left-leaning political group is paying for them with money raised in violation of the new campaign-finance law.

  "As a broadcaster licensed by the Federal Communications Commission, you have a responsibility to the viewing public, and to your licensing agency, to refrain from complicity in any illegal activity," said the RNC's chief counsel, Jill Holtzman Vogel, in a letter sent to about 250 stations Friday.

  "Now that you have been apprised of the law, to prevent further violations of federal law, we urge you to remove these advertisements from your station's broadcast rotation."

  But MoveOn.org's lawyer, Joseph Sandler, said in a statement that the ads were funded legally, calling the RNC's letter "a complete misrepresentation of the law."

  "The federal campaign laws have permitted precisely this use of money for advertising for the past 25 years," he said.

  And MoveOn.org, which was planning to spend $1.9 million on an ad buy that started Thursday, said Friday that it would spend another $1 million.

  'Soft Money' Targeted

  The RNC charges that because the ads are designed to help defeat President Bush, the group cannot pay for them with unlimited "soft money" contributions but only with contributions raised in amounts less than $5,000.

  Although MoveOn.org is a so-called "Section 527" organization that is legally allowed to raise soft money in unlimited amounts from donors, the new campaign-finance law prohibits the group from using those funds to pay for ads that directly attack Bush, Vogel said.

  And in a bit of political one-upmanship, the letter quotes the presumptive Democratic nominee, Sen. John Kerry, as saying that the objective of the new law "is to eliminate altogether the capacity of soft money to play the role that it does in our politics."

  But MoveOn.org says it has raised $10 million for advertising from 160,000 donors, in amounts averaging $50-$60. It is running two ads in 67 TV markets in what its Web site describes as 17 "battleground" states.

  "It's not surprising that [RNC Chairman] Ed Gillespie continues to make false claims about the legality of our campaign in order to silence us," Wes Boyd, president of the voter fund, said in a statement. "Our lawyers continue to assure us that our advertising, and the small contributions from tens of thousands of our members that pay for it, conform in every way to existing campaign-finance laws."

  The group maintains that a recent ruling from the Federal Election Commission supports the method it is using to fund the ads. But in her letter to the stations, Vogel said that FEC ruling makes it clear that any ad that "promotes, supports, attacks or opposes" a federal candidate comes under the contribution limits, which she charges MoveOn is violating.

  One of the ads, called "Worker," ends with the tag line, "George Bush. He's not on our side." The other, called "Child's Play," shows small children working at various jobs and ends with the tag line, "Guess who's going to pay off President Bush's $1 trillion deficit?"

  RNC: Problem With Funding, Not Content

  Vogel insisted that the RNC's problem with the ads stemmed from their funding, not their content.

  "I write not because of the misleading allegations contained in the advertisement, which will be answered in due time, but because running this advertisement breaks the law," Vogel's letter said.

  MoveOn.org has been running ads for several months on cable channels, which don't fall under FCC regulations. However, CBS refused to broadcast the group's ads during the Super Bowl, saying the network did not run issue advertising.

  MoveOn.org and other groups trying to defeat Bush have been raising money to help the Democratic nominee compete with the president's vast war chest in the period between the end of the Democratic primaries and the political conventions. The Bush-Cheney campaign, which launched its first ad salvo this week, has more than $100 million to spend.

  The RNC has complained that though it is no longer allowed to use soft money for campaigning, MoveOn.org is accepting large soft money contributions from a cadre of wealthy donors, including billionaire financier George Soros and film producer Steven Bing, in its quest to defeat the president.

  Soros has said ousting Bush this year is now the "central focus of my life."

You know, guerilla tactics are all that this group seems to understand, from threeatening a potential republican congressman's career if he doesn't withdraw from the race in Texas to threatening to use their power with the FCC to pull stations licenses if they don't kowtow to the mighty Bush administration. There are proper channels if they feel these ads are in violation of the new laws. The proper channel is NOT for the Republican National Commitee to personally contact the stations and threaten to have their licenses pulled. The proper channel is reporting potential abuses to the federal Elections Commission and letting them rule on the legality of them. I wonder how the RNC is going to act when the gun lobby starts running their ads. I'm sure they'll consider them totally legal.

Have they broken the law by warning the stations of this potential violation? No. I'm sure you would love for them to sit back and allow MoveOn's ads to go on in violation of election laws. That would allow the ads to go on and be seen by millions of people, even if they are found to be in violation later. It's sort of like the slick lawyer that "lets slip" a tidbit of evidence that was ruled inadmissible so the jury can hear it. The opposing side objects, the judge sustains, but the cat's out of the bag.

The Office of Homeland Security will initially be run by former Pennsylvania

Governor Tom Ridge. It should be noted that Ridge himself got in trouble a few

years ago for praising the efficiency of the Third Reich's civilian

administration. Ridge also spoke highly of Mussolini's ability to keep the

Italian trains running on time. Now Ridge will be the guy running the Office of

Homeland Security.

Although it hasn't been made public yet, there is a proposal being prepared.

The Bush administration, however is playing it smart. They're being cautious by

whipping up public support first. Later they will announce some of the more

sinister activities of this agency.

According to an inside source, the 'Office of Homeland Security' will operate

three divisions. One will be a plain-clothes division similar to the FBI, which

will be called the State Security Division (SSD). Ironically SSD is the same

acronym as the former East German Secret Police.

The second division of the Office of Homeland Security will be a smaller

uniformed division, which currently remains nameless. It will act as a defacto

State Political Police.

Ridge wants the uniforms of this State Political Police division to

be modeled on existing state trooper uniforms - except done in black.

The actual name of this agency, Office of Homeland Security, is very

reminiscent of 20th century era German/Fascist and Russian/Communist secret

police agencies. In America, 'Homeland' is a neuter word. In German, however,

the word is translated as 'Vaterland' (Fatherland), while in Russian, the word

is 'Rodina' (Motherland). In both cases, these words can be translated into the

English neuter word -- 'homeland.'

There is no precedent for the use of this word 'homeland' in the United States

Government.

This new agency will also operate 'with extralegal authority.' They will then

be able to act under suspension of habeus corpus and under suspension of the

right against self- incrimination, the Fifth Amendment privilege, and also the

Fourth Amendment privilege.

With this new agency, the seeds are being sown for a new classification of law

that will most likely be called 'Homeland Security Law.' Nobody knows what it

will be called yet. But this is obviously what they're doing. Anyone, who knows

the Bushes for what they are, can see that this will be the groundwork for a

new, more powerful, more sinister agency, wherein all sorts of covert activity,

illegal and not, will be extant.

In order to take the concept of 'illegal' covert activity away, they are laying

the foundation for a whole new separate body of law that will be parallel to,

but above, the National Security Acts.

The Office of Homeland Security will be a separate agency, not under any other

agency, not even under the Department of Justice. It will be the most senior

agency in the Cabinet. It will probably fall somewhere between the Department

of State and the Department of Defense, or somewhere between Treasury and

Defense. In terms of authority, it will be called a 'Super Agency,' which

implies it will not be under anyone. It will act as a coordinating agency, but

will be above the FBI, CIA, NSA, and DIA. This will, of course, create a whole

new set of turf war battles. But no agency head -- in this post-WTC

environment -- will dare say anything against it because they'd lose their job.

The new Office of Homeland Security helicopters will be painted a matte black

and have digitized red lettering that says State Security, dark tinted windows,

and numerous aerials and dishes with a big searchlight on the front. Bell

Helicopters is supposed to get the new contract to produce this new super-

surveillance helicopter. Supposedly they'll have the most sophisticated

surveillance electronics ever made. This equipment will include gear that

people don't even know has been invented yet.

It does bother, quite a bit, as a matter of fact. It bothers me enough for me to stay in a state of confusion about what I have been taught through my life. Taught by people who were taught by other people who were taught by whom? If, in fact, the Scofield Reference Bible has some incorrect information, along with the Strong's, then how am I to get a true translation of the Word Of God?

I don't see why other people think I'm crazy; I'm just seeking the truth, unadulterated, unbiased and absolute truth. That's all. why do you people find it so easy to ridicule some? Is it because you don't have the answers yourself, and are actually defending feelings of anger, or do you just get off calling other people liberals, and the such, while fully trusting another fallible man to represent your best interests in Washington? Or, do you just want to continue to worship Auburn Football, and rest of that emotion, forgetting about your responsibilities within you own community and family? Yea, those guys in Montgomery really have you figured out pretty good. I am sure their thinking, let's just give them Auburn Football, and they'll not raise much sand about the poor ole lady down the street that can't afford prescription medicine, or food; and neither will they complain about the inferior education system in Alabama, because they can always just barely afford to send their kids to private schools while poor suffer form lack of decent books and instructors that sleep during classes they are supposed to be teaching. Or the low wages, that are typical of the south; and the income tax imposed on lower income families is far more than that of the corporations that pollute their air and water supply. Or, the fact that the rights of individuals are directly proportional to their income. Nah, they want complain about those things if we give them football. My, how selfish we have grown.

If I'm nutzo, then what are you doing to seek the truth, or are you fully intrusting "man" to tell you the truth? Do you seek the truth form God or man? If you answer the latter, then you probably have some of the same questions I do. So, why do you ridicule someone who desires answers to the questions? Children and babes seek answers, some of which can only be answered by God himself. Man is fallible in his answers because he naturally inserts falsehood by changing the answer every time it is passed on to someone else. Only God has the actual truth, so we must ask him for the unchanging answers to the questions of life.

Ever had a child ask you why is the sky blue? Instead of explaining light refraction you instead come up with of answer like God made it that way? While true, it does leave much of the answer to be answered by someone else, namely a schoolteacher. So, in our laziness and inability to properly communicate with our own children, we pawn off the education part to another person, trusting that they will properly instruct our children in the matter.

Does this, also, apply to spirituality? If so, then I suggest you start teaching your children the truth while they are young, so they are not left hanging on to some weak branch of faulty instruction concerning the truth, as you know it.

BF, I have been saved 14 years now. I am a Deacon at my church. I teach Sunday School to Youth and College age kids. My Dad was a 32nd+ Degree Worshipful Master Mason, Scottish Rite, Blue Lodge. I am not nor will I ever be a Mason. That is just me. I have problems with anything that lowers the focal point of Christ.

All that aside, I rely on sound biblical study, using the KJV, Strong's, and the Lord's Own Holy Spirit. After I was first saved, I listened to Marlon Maddux? and actually believed the Nutcase for a while. He is of the Black Helicopter crowd if you know what I mean. He panders to every weak Christian fear out there. Every conspiracy known to man has been talked about on his show. I was taught some other way out things too. But I was a babe in Christ, I grew up.

God is in control BF, He always was and always will be.

I have had many different exposures over the years to several different teachings in the Bible. I am a member of the Disciples of Christ, I guess some would call my church liberal, and I grade liberal on some social scales, especially when it concerns racial issues. I am ardently PRO-LIFE. I am a very Conservative parent with my kids. I teach from a Fundamentalist Independent Missionary Baptist background and so does most in my church although we are not a "Baptist" church. I work with several civic organizations as service to the Lord, one of them is an Interacial Church Program that I am actively involved in. I am not a bleeding heart, but I can see other folks side of some issues.

BF, no one in my church agrees with everything I see in God's Word. That's a good thing. If you agree with everything anyone says about your walk with God, I hope you realize that that is likely a red flag that you may be in a cult of a church. As Peter and the Disciples walked with Jesus, ate with Jesus, lived with Jesus for three years, they were still very often rebuked by him. So dont think you, I or even Billy Graham, or the Pope will ever fully know God this side of the Thrown Room. God's Word has been revealed to us through 7 different Dispensations that allow us to see more and more of the Lord. We are living in the 6th right now. Revelation will be the 7th. You will never fully have God revealed to you, (I dont think our minds could handle it anyway) but you will see more and more of Him as you grow older in Him.

I admire the quest to know God from anyone, but friend, lighten up! You remind me of myself years ago when I was so suspicious about everyone in the world.

Hey BF, know this, with all your Heart and Soul, JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, AND GOD IS STILL ON THE THRONE! No matter how down you may find yourself, nor how bad life gets, remember that. If the Devil is at the Front Door and you feel all alone, remember that "There is nothing you will go through that is not common among Man" and that "He that is in me is stronger than he that is in the world" or even better, "That which doesnt kill me, makes me stronger."

Chill out man, God is in control.
