Auburn-Georgia ( Running Game )

When you think of Georgia football under Mark Richt, David Greene and their passing game comes to mind. Even Auburn Football under Al Borges, has Jason Campbell in the spotlight. Greene and Campbell are having fabulous seasons but the running game will play a major factor in this top-five showdown.

Consider the following numbers:

Georgia under Mark Richt is 24-0 when they have 40 carries or more in a game. Auburn is 34-4 under Tuberville.

In the last 13 meetings between AU & UGA, the team with the most run attempts is 10-2-1.

Georgia under Mark Richt is 5-6 when they have more pass attempts than run attempts. This excludes two wins over two patsy opponents ( NW State and NM State ). Auburn is 3-5 under Tuberville.

Auburn is 14-1 against SEC opponents when they have at least 45 rush attempts with an average score of 32-15. The Tigers are 20-4 against SEC opponents with at least 40 carries with an average score of 29-16.

Do you think those stats could be skewed a little a represent more the "effect" than the "cause"? What I mean by that is when you are winning, you have a higher tendancy to run, and run out the clock than when you are ahead. The same can be said for having to throw more in order to get caught up.

When Ware was out of the lineup early in the year, UGA looked abysmal.  Only since his return has the offense looked decent.

Ware absense had a effect but was far from the main problem that we had. Greene is suddenly throwing with some accuracy and the OL is blocking much better.

Just keep everythinf off-balance and it won't matter if they run or pass becase they are going to get stuffed by Groves, Graves, McClover, AT, T. Williams, etc., etc., etc.!!!!!

WAR DAMN EAGLE AND BEAT THE DAWGS!!!!!!!

i would say it's an effect, but i can think of at least one game in this series where it was the cause: 1997. if you watch that game, you hear the announcers talking about how auburn never runs it and how everything is on dameyune. then you hear the story about how fred beasley went to the coaches to tell them to at least TRY to run the ball.

so we come out and run the pill a lot more than expected. it isn't working necessarily, but we're getting enough big plays to maintain a lead or keep it close so we keep running. eventually, we wear them down with our 2 yards a carry ground game, and demontray carter and beasley both end up having big nights. so having a consistent ground game is a must. it may not produce immediate results, but it does have a major impact. and odds are if we stick with the run it's going to pay off.

There's no doubt that we will run early and often. However, you can't call the same play (run to hte left) on every first down, which is what happened for the first half and part of the third quarted in the Ole Miss game. Please, vary when and how you run so we can catch them off guard with our brand new passing offense. Hopefully, Borges will see how much he called the runon first down and vary a little more come November 13th.
