-OT Calvin Ashley, Washington (D.C.) St. John’s: St. John’s lost to Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy 35-14. Ashley started at left tackle. St. John’s is 3-1. Next game: Saturday vs. Olney (Md.) Good Counsel.

-CB Malcolm Askew, McCalla (Ala.) McAdory: The 4-star Tigers cornerback commit from McCalla (Ala.) McAdory and his team were on the losing end of a 23-13 decision with Tuscaloosas (Ala.) Hillcrest. But Askew mostly shined in defeat. Per Al.com, "Askew ran 17 times for 104 yards and hit 13 of 20 passes for 147 yards and a touchdown." His scoring pass came in the fourth quarter as he attempted to lead a comeback. His team is 2-2. Askew has 537 yards passing and six touchdowns, along with one interception on defense for the season. Next game: Friday at Birmingham (Ala.). Huffman.

-RB Devan Barrett, Tampa Catholic (Fla.): In a 46-8 loss to Fort Pierce (Fla.) Central, he was possibly the lone bright spot for the Crusaders. Barrett rushed for 157 yards on 16 carries. With the game out of reach in the second half, he had only four attempts after halftime. After two games, Barrett has 179 yards on 25 carries. Tampa Catholic is 0-2. Next game: Friday vs. Clearwater Central Catholic (Fla.).

-QB/ATH Tray Bishop, Terrell County (Ga.): In a 20-14 win on the road over over Seminole County (Ga.), the 4-star Tigers quarterback/athlete commit did it with his legs and arm. He rushed for a 40-yard score and passed 48 yards for another. Terrell County is 2-2. Next game: Friday vs. Mitchell County (Ga.).

-OG Nick Brahms, Navarre (Fla.): Injured, recovering from leg surgery. Should be healed by December, but potentially could miss the entire season. He hopes to play in January’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

-K Anders Carlson, The Classical Academy (Colo.). In a 42-14 win over Denver (Colo.) D'Evelyn, Carlson missed three field goal attempts but was five-of-five on PATs and all seven of his kickoffs were touchbacks. Carlson is five of 11 on field goals this season and 24 of his 25 kickoffs have been touchbacks. Next game: Friday at Pueblo Central (Colo.)

-QB Joey Gatewood (2018), Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail: Bartram Trail beat Orange Park (Fla.) Fleming Island 10–0. Splitting time at quarterback, Gatewood was 1 of 2 for 29 yards with a touchdown. He added six carries for 8 yards and two catches for 17 yards. Bartram Trail is 3-1. Next game: Friday vs. St. Augustine (Fla.).

-S Carlito Gonzalez, Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson: Stephenson lost to Lovejoy (Ga.) 28-27. Gonzalez’s stats unknown. Through three games, he had 21 tackles, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, a forced fumble and a pass break-up this season. Next game: Friday at Mundy’s Mill (Ga.).

-RB Octavius Matthews, Itawamba Community College (Miss.): In a 27-13 loss to Northwest Mississippi Community College (Miss.), Matthews rushed for a season-high 83 yards on 12 carries. He added one catch for 6 yards. He has 139 yards rushing on 24 carries for the season. Itawamba is 2-1. Next game: Thursday vs. East Mississippi Community College (Miss.).

-LB Tadarian Moultry, Birmingham (Ala.) Jackson-Olin: In a 43-0 win over Birmingham (Ala.) John Carroll Catholic, Moultry had 11 tackles. With his team 3-1, Moultry has recorded 45 total tackles (19 solo), 5 tackles for loss, a sack, 12 quarterback pressures, a forced fumble and a pass breakup. Next game: Friday at Calera (Ala.).

-S Jordyn Peters, Muscle Shoals (Ala.): In a 36–33 loss in two overtimes to Hartselle (Ala.), Peters had seven tackles (five solo) and three pass break-ups. That gives him 38 tackles, a forced fumble and two blocked punts this season. Next game: Friday vs. Columbia (Ala.).

-LS Bill Taylor, Tuscaloosa (Ala.) American Christian: American Christian beat Greene County (Ala.) 48-14 and is 3-2. Taylor successfully snapped on eight extra points. Next game: Friday vs. Holt (Ala.)

-OT Austin Troxell, Madison Academy (Ala.): Troxell started at left tackle in a win over Huntsville (Ala.) Westminster Christian. But the 4-star offensive tackle commit for Auburn was injured on the first play of the game. He has a torn ACL in his right knee. It's the same knee he sustained an ACL tear on in the playoffs last year. Also, he has a meniscus tear. Troxell will have surgery soon and likely is out for the season. He also probably will miss the Under Armour All-America Game.

-ATH/RB Alaric Williams, Gadsden (Ala.) Southside: Williams has a torn meniscus in his knee that required surgery two weeks ago. He could return by the end of September. In two games played, he has 347 rushing yards on 32 carries.

-LB Chandler Wooten, Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb: In an 18-12 win over East Coweta (Ga.), Wooten had eight tackles — all solo. The team is 3-1. Wooten has 37 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup on the season. Next game: Friday vs. Pebblebrook (Ga.).

How can you lose 46-8 when you have a receiver who gets 157 yards on 16 carries, almost all of which in the first half?  Talk about a team that has coaching problems... or turns the ball over A LOT.

Apologies for not updating this the past 3 weeks. I've been working from a tablet & it's hard to paste info from 17 different pages with AU 247 using their very frustrating slideshows. Askew has 806 yards passing and seven touchdowns, along with one interception on defense for the season. Next game: Friday vs. Bessemer City (Ala.).

-RB Devan Barrett, Tampa Catholic (Fla.): In a 25-10 win over Tampa Berkeley Prep (Fla.), Barrett rushed for 257 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries. He added three receptions for 78 yards. After four games, Barrett has 525 yards on 65 carries with three touchdowns. He also has seven catches for 97 yards. Tampa Catholic is 2-2. Next game: Friday at Land O' Lakes (Fla.).

-QB/ATH Tray Bishop, Terrell County (Ga.): Terrell County beat Baconton Charter (Ga.) 40-0. Bishop carried five times for 140 yards. He did not attempt a pass. He also returned a punt 65 yards for six, but it was nullified by a penalty. Terrell County is 3-3. Next game: Friday at Stewart County (Ga.).

-OG Nick Brahms, Navarre (Fla.): Injured, recovering from leg surgery. Should be healed by December, but potentially could miss the entire season. He hopes to play in January’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

-K Anders Carlson, The Classical Academy (Colo.). In a 24-21 loss to La Junta (Colo.), Carlson was 3 of 3 on PATs and had four kickoffs — three for touchbacks. He also punted five times for a 35.2 average. Carlson is five of 12 on field goals this season and 33 of his 35 kickoffs have been touchbacks. Next game: Friday vs. Salida (Colo.).

-QB Joey Gatewood (2018), Jacksonville (Fla.) Bartram Trail: Bartram Trail beat Jacksonville (Fla.) Creekside 63-7. Gatewood was 2-of-2 passing for 30 yards and rushed twice for 69 yards and two touchdowns — with a long run of 60 yards. For the season, Gatewood has 100 passing yards (7 of 15), 196 rushing yards and 125 receiving yards. He has accounted for seven touchdowns. Bartram Trail is 4-2. Next game: Friday vs. Ponte Vedra (Fla.).

-S Carlito Gonzalez, Stone Mountain (Ga.) Stephenson: Stephenson beat Jonesboro (Ga.) 27-0. Gonzalez recorded four solo tackles and an interception. Through six games, he had 39 tackles, two interceptions, a fumble recovery for a touchdown, a forced fumble and two pass break-ups. Next game: Oct. 13 vs. Martin Luther King (Ga.).

-RB Octavius Matthews, Itawamba Community College (Miss.): In a 51-34 win over Pearl River Community College (Miss.), Matthews rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. For the season, Matthews has rushed for 297 yards on 51 carries to go along with seven catches for 134 yards and one touchdown. Itawamba is 3-2. Next game: Thursday at Northeast Mississippi Community College.

-LB Tadarian Moultry, Birmingham (Ala.) Jackson-Olin: Jackson-Olin lost to Birmingham (Ala.) Ramsay 45-27. Moultry had 11 tackles (eight solo) and one tackle for loss. After five games, he had 49 tackles, a forced fumble and two blocked punts. Jackson-Olin is 4-2. Next game: Friday at Birmingham (Ala.) Shades Valley.

-DE Daquan Newkirk (2018), Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College: Newkirk is being redshirted this season.

-S Jordyn Peters, Muscle Shoals (Ala.): In a 54-7 win over Columbia (Ala.), Peters played only one quarter and finished with two tackles. Peters has 40 tackles, a forced fumble and two blocked punts this season. Muscle Shoals is 3-3. Next game: Thursday vs. Hazel Green (Ala.).

-LS Bill Taylor, Tuscaloosa (Ala.) American Christian: No game. American Christian is 4-2. Next game: Friday vs. Gordo (Ala.)

-OT Austin Troxell, Madison Academy (Ala.): Troxell has a torn ACL in his right knee and will miss the remainder of the season. He also probably will miss the Under Armour All-America Game.

-ATH/RB Alaric Williams, Gadsden (Ala.) Southside. In a 24-21 loss to Oxford (Ala.), Williams returned from a torn meniscus after missing three games and rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. In three games played, he has 451 rushing yards on 49 carries. Southside is 4-2. Next game: Friday at Brewer (Ala.).

-LB Chandler Wooten, Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb: No game. The team is 4-1. Wooten has 45 tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and a pass breakup on the season. Next game: Friday at Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern.

-QB/ATH Tray Bishop, Terrell County (Ga.): Terrell County beat Stewart County (Ga.) 43-8. Bishop had nine rushes for 148 yards with a 10-yard touchdown run. He also returned a punt 56 yards for a touchdown. On defense, he recorded two tackles and a pass breakup. Bishop did all of this in less than three quarters of action. Terrell County is 4-3. Next game: Oct. 21 at Cusseta (Ga.) Chattahoochee County.

Most have been fairly long attempts. It's HS, never know about snaps and holds.

Most kickoff are touchbacks. He's got a leg.

Thanks! Okay, so he kinda confirmed some of what I was thinking. I certainly won't second guess our staff when it comes to recruiting kickers. We've been pretty good at it for as long as I can remember.

Yo have to admit... the kids got a great tutor on speed dial and probably has a chip on his shoulder about not living up to the same person's example.
