Target...

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING POST IS AN URBAN LEGEND. SEE RESPONSES FOR DETAILS.

Well, I am done shopping with Target....

And as we discovered this past Christmas, Target will not let the

Salvation Army bell-ringers on their property either so as not to

offend anyone with the name "Salvation Army." Get over yourselves

already. Bunch of Communists :)

Amazing Issue with Target Stores

If they have a good sale in their ads, take the ad to Walmart, where they

will meet the price...............

Dick Forrey of the Vietnam Veterans Association wrote:

"Recently we asked the local TARGET store to be a proud sponsor of

the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall during our spring recognition

event. We received the following reply from the local TARGET

management: 'Veterans do not meet our area of giving. We only

donate to the arts, social action groups, gay & lesbian causes, and

education.' "

So I'm thinking, if the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall and veterans

in general do not meet their donation criteria, then something is

really wrong at this TARGET store. We were not asking for thousands

of dollars, not even hundreds, just a small sponsorship for a

memorial remembrance.

As a follow-up, I E-mailed the TARGET U.S. corporate headquarters

and their response was the same. That's their national policy.

Then I looked into the company further. They will not allow the

Marines to collect for 'Toys for Tots' at any of their stores. And

during the recent Iraq deployment, they would not allow families of

employees who were called up for active duty to continue their

insurance coverage while they were on military service. Then as I

dig further, TARGET is a French-owned corporation.

Now, I'm thinking again. If TARGET cannot support American

Veterans, then why should my family and I support their stores by

spending our hard earned American dollars and to have their profits

sent to France. Without the American Vets, where would France be

today?"

Feel free to pass this along to whomever you want.

Dude,

Did you copy and paste an email that you got from someone who claimed to be a true patriot?

This is an urban myth (not to be confused with Urban Meyer) that has gone the rounds and has been proven to be false.

snopes.com - TARGET

Be careful what you post. I don't claim to know the legailities of internet forums, but this could be construed as slander or libel (I always get confused on those two, esquire) and could get folks in some legal hot water. You never know when some shark, I mean, attorney is cruising through here and smells blood in the water. Next thing you know, David is in court with Legal and esquire by his side...

Ok, maybe a bit melodramatic.

Anyway, I am not a defender of Target, Wal-Mart or any other mega corporation that drives competition out of small towns, but I gotta call :bs: on this one.

Not slamming you, woods (ok, maybe a little), but emails forwards are usually not reliable sources of accurate information.

Guys, please check out www.snopes.com on any urban legends you get via email. This story has been badly overblown, embellished and, in some cases, had outright lies attached to it. I'm not slamming you woods...my aunt email blasted this same thing around just yesterday:

Target Practice

Claim:  Multiple — see below:

Status:

The Target Corporation does not contribute to veterans' causes:  False.

The Target Corporation is French-owned:  False.

The Target Corporation provides corporate grants only for 'gay and lesbian causes':  False.

The Target Corporation does not contribute to the U.S. Marines 'Toys for Tots' program:  False.

The Target Corporation does not allow reservists called to active duty to continue their health benefits:  False.

Full article goes into lots of detail:

Man, you beat me by a few minutes, TM.

Yeah, I get this stuff from my aunt every day. Nine times out of ten, Snopes has done the research on it and it's either completely false or has substantial exaggerations.

Wow. I never knew of snopes.com!

The guy who sent me this is a retired detective and I think of him as a credible source. Guess I need to tell him about this one!

I had heard it for a while that Target was french-owned, but never knew that snopes.com existed to check the source.

Sorry guys! This post can be closed and deleted!

I'm not a lawyer (but I played one on TV :big: ), but the difference in slander and libel is oral versus written communication of false and injurious statements.

In other words, if I said, "That so-and-so restaraunt passes off fried cat parts mixed in with their chicken", that would be considered slanderous.

If I published a newspaper article saying the manager of the fried chicken restaurant knowingly passed off cat parts as chicken in his place of business, I would be guilty of libel.

No need to close and delete. In fact, it may serve as a good thing for people who get inundated with these email forwards all the time. SNOPES.com is the place to look to fact-check these things.

My aunt sends us eleventy billion of these things a week. In fact, it's rare that we ever get an email from her that is anything but some pithy poem, goofy photo or urban legend.

Maybe the post should be edited by putting a disclaimer at the top saying that it has been found to be an urban legend. Some people may not read the responses.

My sister, God love her, the whole family calls her: " The Spam Woman."

I bet 90 % of my personal e-mail is spam from her.

My sister was so bad with that crap I took her off my contact list for a week or so and all her junk got returned to her. She's much more considerate now.
