TitanTiger 17,613
I've frequently heard from bammers, particularly during the 6-game Auburn winning streak, that "Auburn only beats us when we're down" or some similar tripe. Just some facts to set the records straight. Let's look at the last almost 4 decades (1980-2019). In that time Auburn has won 20 in the series and Bama has won 20. Auburn's victories breakdown like this: 7 series wins over 10-win (or more) Bama teams (35%) 3 series wins over 9-win Bama teams (15.8%) 3 series wins over 8-win Bama teams (15.8%) 15 wins over Bama teams with winning records (75%) 4 wins over Bama teams with losing records (21.1%) AVERAGE RECORD OF BAMA TEAMS AUBURN BEAT: 7.7 wins, 4.3 losses Alabama's victories breakdown like this: 0 series wins over 10-win (or more) Auburn teams 2 series wins over 9-win Auburn teams (10%) 9 series wins over 8-win Auburn teams (45%) 12 series wins over Auburn teams with winning records (60%) 6 wins over Auburn teams with losing records (31.6%) AVERAGE RECORD OF AUBURN TEAMS BAMA BEAT: 6.7 wins, 5.1 losses We're 7-10 in that time against the best Bama teams of the era, you're 0-10 against the best Auburn teams. Over 62% percent of our wins in the era came over Bama teams with 8 wins or more. Only 55% of yours come over 8-win or more Auburn teams (80% of those were just 8 win teams. Almost 74% of our wins in the era came over Bama teams with winning records while only 60% of yours came against AU teams with winning records. And as of 2019's Iron Bowl, your best coach ever is 0-8 against Auburn teams with 9 wins or more. 0-4 while at Bama. If anyone takes advantage of the other team being down in this series, it's Bama.
