Isaiah Crowell Update

i live near athens GA and my sister went to UGA's basketball game with a friend today. Crowell was there on his official visit, he was wearing all UGA gear and the entire student section stood up and started chanting "Isaiah!, Isaiah!" It might not mean anything but UGA is pulling out all the stops to get this kid...

I know for a fact that I. Crowell is a must for Mark R. The kid could/might save his job. They will try everything in the world to get him.

I am sure there is plenty we don't know. That said, Crowell has never come across as wanting to be a Tiger. As much as I would love for us to have him if his outlook on Auburn has not dramatically changed he won't be coming our way. If his dream is to play for Dawgs I understand him following his dream. But if he comes to the 2010 National Champion Tigers he will get his NFL shot. He will also be part of a family that won't forget him after leaving Auburn and when his NFL days are over. If these things are not important to him then Auburn is just one of many options.

It won't cost him his job....but the AD has been pushing buttons...changes in CMR's responsibilities, strength and conditioning, realigning some duties among coaches....searles jumped when the oppo came- but maxing this recruiting class is of the highest priority...

Problem is, his time is running out. Pieces are being moved for that change. I believe he has 1 or 2 seasons left regardless of this class. UGA has and always will recruit well. But the program is stagnant. A 9-3 season may give him an extra year; but it may not. What saves his job is a trip to the SEC Champ game, and that's about it

All I'm saying is IC is the most important recruit in Mark R. time as a head coach at UGA. IC is and has always been there #1 recruit to get for their so called dream team.

A very real factor for these elite backs is that AU has 2-elite backs already...

UGA & UAT don't have a back period who are as strong as Dyer, nor do they a specialist/speed back as good as Omac...

In my opinion, this has hurt us to at least a degree with these guys...

Question is, does IC really think AU is a good fit, and will he really get the playing time and carries early on...

I don't agree w/ this at all...Dyer is a definite stud but OM is a good to very good back but by no means elite.  If another great speed back is recruited then I still expect OM to get a lot of carries but I also expect his carries to be reduced as the season wears on.  I can't remember the last time I saw OM in the backfield picking up a blitz.  An elite back would be in on all 3 downs and OM just doesn't fit this description.  Good, absolutely ...very good, sure...elite, no way.

I agree with 92...

First of all, take a look at the rosters and you will find that Uat and UGa have a TON more Rbs than AU. Au has 2 (shocking really) and only 1 every down back.

Unfortunately I do not think it will help with IC. He has never been leaning to AU - we have always been 3rd. I think he likes AU but I think that we are a long shot.

Either way our class is fantastic.

Plus we are national champions.

UAT has Richardson.

UGA has not gotten a back that good since Moreno so I can see why they're going all in for Cromwell. That said, I think AU still has a great chance as anyone because of their offense. One thing I learned from this staff is that never doubt them.

Yeah I think the RB depth chart should favor AU over the others. But that doesn't seem to be a huge factor for Crowell.

As far as UGA and Richt's recruiting- I have said this before, but it baffles me as to why parents and coaches of top recruits continue to send their kids to UGA to underachieve, waste their talent, scoff at any sort of discipline, etc.

And why on earth would any offensive recruit want to go play for Mike Bobo in an offense that just posted 6 points vs. UCF?

And the flip side- UGA fans think they are always just one recruit/one great class away from winning the national championship. This year is no different- if they just pull in Crowell, then they will win it all in 2011.

UGA fans have always irritated me, but they took it to a new level this year with all the Cam/Nick bashing.

You high man?

Bammer has freakin' Trent Richardson. And McCalebb is NOT an elite back. He's a change of pace, speed sweep guy. AND UGA has THREE running backs on campus who were top 10 RBs out of high school (King, Ealey and Malcome).

it is a little surprising to me we have only 2 scholarship RB's on the roster, yet can't seem to lock up a good RB. You would think many elite RB's would be falling over each other to come play for us, especially after winning a title. However, 2012 is supposed to be a GREAT year for stud RB's, Im sure the coaches know this, and could be keeping some room open in the backfield to land a BIG fish next year. Don't forget Calloway and Bray will get a shot to get some carries...

So correct me if I'm wrong here. Trooper Taylor gets in NCAA trouble because a couple of recruits names were called out publicly at BCW a few years ago, but IC walks into a basketball arena and a few thousand fans start chanting his name, but no big deal. Can someone please explain the difference to me?

The difference is they had fans chanting it because they recognized him. They didnt announce him. Trooper is a coach. Therefore it was against the rules.

Not exactly knowshon was the # 15 rb according to espn.  The last 4 rbs uga signed have all been ranked higher than he was.  They just haven't produced and that is on the coaching.

I have a suggestion for you JamesG....  since signing day is still a few weeks away, why don't we wait until then to determine how our coaches did recruiting running backs this year.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised.  They know exactly what they are doing.

1716, sir you are quite correct about IC....he is the jewel in their recruiting year- losing him and the hounds will sound off for sure- regardless of CMR's job status...and Drew is a VERY close 2nd. We pull either of them, and Wright, and our footprint here will be huge. And THAT's why I contend drawing Drew to be our #1 priority. IC comes, and it's almost embarrasing how far under our heel these curs will be. I believe we can get Drew; still not convinced IC is sold on us yet.

That said, I am having a tough time understanding why these uga fans believe getting IC will make them any better, when they've WASTED RB talent before....they went 6-7 with 5 star talent at every skill position. Getting IC...I don't see will translate to more W's...and many here know that. Getting him here would be a positive for them, but beyond that....

Call me golf by the way athenstiger. I just know how important IC is for the dawgs/CMR to get. I can assure everyone CMR thinks this way. He is sweating bullets on this

Plugging one more talented guy into a flawed system will not make it work better.  Uga already has 4 4 star rbs on their roster and yet their leading rusher ealey had 811 yards on 157 carries while our third leading rusher onterio mccalebb had  810 yards on 95 carries.  They had their most talented, healthiest, and experienced oline in years.  The best wr in the country and still they could not produce.  Their problem is systemic it starts at the top with richt and goes on down to the play on the field.  More talent won't fix their problem it will just be wasted in frustation and futility.
