Nick Marshall also spoke to the media today for the first time since Fall practice began ...

Q: Can you explain what happened during the traffic stop?

A: "Um, once again, I made a mistake and then I'm just trying to gain my trust back from the coaches. I let my family down, and I'm also trying to gain their trust back, and also the Auburn fans."

Q: What did you learn from it?

A: "I put myself in a bad situation that I shouldn't have put myself in and I'm just going to learn from my mistake."

Q: What do you change going forward as far as learning from your mistake?

A: "The incident that happened, it's just going to change me as a better man on and off the field, and like I said, I'm just trying to gain my trust back from my coach and also my teammates."

Q: Having experienced what you went through at Georgia, did that day, the next day, did it ever cross your mind that you may have lost a second chance?

A: "Not at all. What happened at Georgia, that's in the past, that's right there and I'm not worried about that right now. Like I said, I'm just trying to gain my trust back from my team and my coaches and also the Auburn fans."

Q: Your mother, your grandmother, your aunts, have been real important in your life in helping you get past the stuff that happened at Georgia. After this happened, how did they react and what have they done in the weeks since to lift you up?

A: "I let them down. They're family, they're going to be there since Day 1 and I was sad that I let them down like how I did. It's just I'm gaining their trust back and they're still going to be with me to this day."

Q: What did your grandma say to you?

A: "She's still open me with open hands and she was disappointed at the time, but then again, you can be mad for so long, she still loves me like I'm here own and I feel the same way."

Q: How hard will it be not to go out there with the first snap?

A: "It's hard, but we've got Jeremy and then I'm going to be right behind him just like I know he'll be behind me."

Q: When you first called your mom, you didn't mention the marijuana bit. You mentioned you got stopped, according to the officer, why didn't you tell your mother at first about the marijuana?

A: "Like I said, I made a mistake and I'm just trying to gain my trust back from my coaches and also my teammates and my family."

Q: Coach Malzahn talked about you and Jonathon coming back and apologizing to the team, how tough was that? What stands out about that day to you?

A: "It was tough because when that happened, it was like that whole team was in that car with me and then also the coaching staff, and I felt bad about it. But then again, I came up here and I apologized and I told them it won't happen again. And they accepted me back with open hands."

Q: How important has that been to you - how you teammates have responded?

A: "It's important because without the teammates I probably wouldn't be here where I'm at today, and they're just behind me 100 percent. I just have to gain their trust back also."

Q: What has it been like, you have all this going for you, people are talking about Heisman, fighting for the national championship game, now they're talking about this. How tough has that been to deal with that when everything is going so great?

A: "It's been tough because I'm not too worried about the Heisman. Like I said, I'm trying to gain the trust of my teammates and my coaches. And then I'm just trying to go out there and win games with my teammates."

Q: How difficult was that first conversation with Gus?

A: "It's just that I had to talk to him, a man-to-man conversation, between my head coach and me. He's going to tell me what's right and not what's wrong. Then I just accepted my...uh..."

Q: What was the biggest thing you took away from that, did he give you a clear message of what he expected?

A: "He gave me a message, and then, just like I said, I made a mistake, and I'm going to just accept my punishment with open hands."

Q: Talk about being able to get back on the field and start practicing. How much fun has it been to be able to focus on football again?

A: "It's been great because we've been working hard, going out there hard every day, practicing with each other and making each other better. The offense has slowed down, and we're just going to be very scary on the offensive side of the ball this year."

Q: Do you have any idea when you'll be in the game against Arkansas?

A: "I have no idea. They haven't decided that with coach. But, like I said, I trust my coach, and I know I'm just trying to gain my trust back with him."

Q: What have you seen from Jeremy?

A: "I see Jeremy coming out there and practicing good every day. He's leading the team just like he's going to be the starter, and I'm just behind him 100 percent."

Q: At what point did you learn you wouldn't be going to (SEC) Media Days?

A: "Like I said, I made a mistake, and I'm just trying to gain my trust back from my coaches and also my teammates."

Q: Talk about your development as a player, you talked about everything slowing down, how much different do you feel as a quarterback now than you did even n the spring?

A: "I feel very comfortable back there in the offense right now. Everything's slowed down now to me. I ain't have to think too much. I just go through my progressions and just be better than I was last year."

Q: You put on Instagram last night, the picture of the Heisman graphic of you and Mariota and Braxton Miller and Jameis, and that being a motivation for you. Last year there was a lot of discussion should character and off the field issues be involved in the voting for the Heisman with regard to Jameis, are you concerned that this year, people will use this incident against you in evaluating your play on the field and off the field?

A: "Like I said, I made a mistake. When I put that up there, it just motivated me to strive for greatness. But like I said, I made a mistake, and I'm just trying to gain the trust back from my teammates and also my coaches."

Q: What do you have to do and what are you doing to regain the trust in your teammates and the coaches?

A: "I'm coming out there every day and leading by example. Picking players up, like leading the young guys, and bringing them on board on how we do it here at Auburn. I'm just going to go out there and play football. That's what I love to do."

Q: How many stadium steps have you had to run?

A: "I haven't had to run any at the stadium."

Jonathan Mincy ...

Q: What happened on the night of June 27 outside Abbeville, Ala.?

A: “I made a mistake. Right now, I'm very apologetic to everybody that is a part of the Auburn family — the coaches, the fans and my teammates. Day in and day out, (I'm) just trying to get everybody's respect back.

Q: How have things gone since the arrest?

A: “It's a family here. I made a mistake, and every day I'm going in and trying to get everybody's trust back. That's what is important to me. I let everyone down. That's my biggest (goal) is just getting everybody back.”

Q: Has it been hard to refocus on the season?

A: “No. I have great support here — coaches, players and the fans — and I just don't think about it. I made a mistake and that's in the past.”

Q: Do you know how long your punishment will last?

A: “I trust Coach (Malzahn) and that's the biggest thing is just getting his trust. Whatever the punishment, I (welcome) it with open hands.”

Q: You spoke at a D.A.R.E. event days before your arrest. Did that make it harder to process this incident?

A: “Definitely. I put myself in that position and it was a mistake that I have to pay the price for. I've just got to get those fans back.”

Q: Has it been good to get back on the practice field?

A: “It's been indescribable. It's been good just being out there with my teammates. Just being able to come back after the season like we had and being out there having fun, playing the game that I've been blessed to play for this long, so it's just a great opportunity and I'm excited for the season.”

Q: Your teammates have been supportive, how much has that meant to you?

A: “It's big. Like I said, I made a mistake and my teammates have been there since Day 1 and they're still here. That's what is important to me and I just love being out there with them.”

Q: How big has (cornerbacks) Coach (Melvin) Smith been in this process for you?

A: “It’s been real big. Coach Smith is like a father-figure I never had. I grew up in a single-parent home so when I got here, different coaching changes, Coach Smith has kind of been the outlook that I can go talk to about anything, on and off the field. I’m very blessed to have him as a coach, and just the rest of this coaching staff, it’s a blessing.”

Q: How much a difference does having so much depth make this season?

A: “It’s real big. Just to have experienced player that are out there is going to have a big impact when the game comes down to the line on that third or fourth down. I just love going out there. Some of the young guys are stepping up so it’s going to be a great feeling. I’m excited for the season.”

Q: Does the defense have a mission to be much better than last year?

A: “Definitely. Coach (Ellis) Johnson and the rest of the staff, they’ve implemented outstanding defensive strategies for us. We just have to go out there and not bust coverages and do our assignments.”

Q: How does this team compare to others?

A: “Just being able to be fresh, that’s going to be the biggest key. Not just me, but anybody being out there, being able to bring in fresh bodies, that’s going to play a major role in the season.”

Q: Did you like being able to be a coach during a summer kids camp?

A: “Definitely. That’s something I have a passion for, just working with younger individuals and being around football. Anything dealing with football, I embrace it. It’s just a blessing to be able to play this game and be in this position.”

Q: Coaches have said your record has been spotless at Auburn. Is your track record a better indication of who you are?

A: “It was a mistake and a very humbling experience. But the biggest thing right now is leaving that in the past and just gaining everybody’s trust back staring with the coaches, my teammates and these fans.”

Q: Do you still have hopes to be a captain this season?

A: “That’s up to my coaches and teammates. I’m just going in day in and day out getting their respect back.”

Q: What was it like moving back to field corner after working boundary in spring?

A: “Both of the positions have different issues and I’m kind of familiar with both of them. I’m sure the coaches have a great scheme where I will play and I’m going to follow their lead.”

Q: Are you worried the arrest might negatively affect your future beyond Auburn?

A: “It’s behind me. I’m just going in and focusing on this season. I’ve got my coaches and my teammates behind me, and the Auburn family, and I’m just going in ready to play football.”

On the football front, Rhett Lashlee spoke to the media today ...

"We started to work specifically on things we need to improve on the last two days." Install process is done

...

Team was in shells today

...

"Jaylon is doing well ... we saw enough to know he's going to play this year."

...

"Jeremy's best days have been the last three or four days."

...

Nick Marshall's best day was Saturday

...

Reps have been split the same as has been the practice.

...

Nick Marshall has gotten more consistent on his footwork.

,..

Jeremy Johnson has been working mostly on 3-step quick drops, not something he did in high school

...

Jonathan Wallace will have a role, may not be only at quarterback

...

On Nick: "If he does what he's capable of and what he's supposed to do .. I think all the individual accolades can take care of itself."

...

"Duke's role is get him the ball. He's a playmaker."

...

"Devonte Danzey, he looks healthy, he has really had a good fall camp. ... We've got on our mind, what we think (of contingencies on the offensive line)." Will give it a few more days.

At least 3 RBs will contribute, likely 4

Thanks for the pix....looks like a good day.

As for the interviews....seemed that every media person felt the need to ask a questions...even if they could not think up something original after first 3 or 4. Hope that's behind everyone and the next interviews will deal with their expectations for the season.

Nick Marshall needs to make a public service announcement that marijuana will ruin your vocabulary... :bananadance:!

I'm glad that both he and Mincy had to answer some hard questions and that it irritated them. Maybe that will make them think twice.

All in all, it looks like great day in Auburn. Wish I could have been there!

If I'm Marshall or Mincy after that first marijuana related question you simply say, "As I've said, I made a mistake that night which I truly regret, but I'm moving forward and I won't be answering any more questions about that event. So any football practice related questions would be great."

Well, now you see why so many of us were happy that Nick was not at SEC Day....can you imagine how many times ESPN or someone would have run segments of his "interview" ?

+1 buncha paparazzi asking questions that really no Auburn fans care about any longer. I'm sure I'm one of many who's sick of hearing about it.

We're probably seeing why it wouldn't have been a good idea to take NM to Media Days in Bham.
