Tom Watson held a place atop the leaderboard for a short time this morning. It shouldn't surprise me, but it is absolutely amazing how well he is still able to play at his age. His mind is still as sharp as any. With a little endurance he would have won the open in 2009. A shame this will be his last at Augusta National.

Spieth is playing extremely well right now. 4 under through 11 holes, and an early two-shot lead. If Spieth keeps playing well, he could post a low number today, which would be impressive considering the wind conditions. He's about to be tested by that wind here with a tee shot on 12.

Jordan Spieth just posted a 66. Crazy good score on a day with so much wind. Short game on fire. He had some huge par saves in there.

That's one of the secrets to winning the Masters because you are going to have a lot of those to make.

There's no doubt. One of the hardest parts to comprehend about playing professional golf, especially majors is the focus you have to have on every shot Thursday-Sunday. Those par saves on Thursday morning could prove to be the difference in winning.

McIlroy up to sole possession of second place at three under behind Spieth at 6 under. Up and down front nine for Spieth.

These greens are playing FAST, even by Augusta National standards.

Now amateur Bryson Dechambeau is putting on a show. Hit it to 12 feet on 11, left of the hole (a feat of its own) and sinks the birdie putt to move into 2nd place.

Followed by a spectacular shot off 12 tee to 3 feet.

DeCambeau putting on a show on the rule about drops. On 18 he was in the woods and finally ended up hitting his ball from about 30 yards where his ball came to rest. Plus was hitting 4 but rallied pretty well from his troubles.
