AuCivilEng1 11,008
You know, I give Gustavo a ton of ****, but when you look at this year in a nutshell, it makes you take a step back and think. He took a freshman QB into Dallas and beat the eventual PAC 12 champion, blew out a couple of SEC teams, lost 3 close games on the road to 3 teams that ended the season in the top 10, kept the team motivated enough to win an emotional shootout against Alabama, finished the season at #12(ahead of Bama), with a chance to win 10 games, all with an 18 year old QB. And now he’s brought in a real life professional OC, with a track record of coaching successful offenses. Not a bad job, Gus. Things could been better, but it could have been way worse. Considering that the season is underway I guess....not sure what he "quiet period" is but with kids committing in Dec now is the time to pin down the ones we want. Seems in recent years, the majority of highly sought kids signed early.

caleb1633 1,418
This is a pleasant surprise from Gus and the university, and gives much needed hope and energy to the fanbase! Maybe he'll continue to surprise us and actually let CCM run the show. I am cautiously optimistic!

AU_Twisterman 83
Bottom line is this is an upgrade in coaching on the offensive side of the ball. Not sure how it will eventually play out as there are no guarantees (especially with CGM), but the offense got better today, and it could pay dividends for years to come. Maverick.AU 13,279
Will say I’m stoked about this hire! Even if only for the simple fact that there is a great football mind in the room that can bounce things off of gus/working with Bo. The knowledge that someone like Morris has vs the others mentioned is quite drastic, from an offensive prospective. I’m like many others in being critical about Gus always needing to be “the smartest man in the room”. This was the first step in the right direction. edit: look’s like skye hit the nail on the head on twitter earlier.

GwillMac6 20,677
By KEITH NIEBUHR 48 minutes ago Chad Morris’ two most recent stops prior to landing at Auburn were head coaching stints at Arkansas and SMU. But before that, he cut his teeth as offensive coordinator at Clemson from 2011-2014. As a recruiter there, he was involved in securing commitments from several prospects. Here are three of note, where 247Sports listed Morris as primary recruiter …. We're focusing on his time at Clemson since 1. He will have a similar role at Auburn and 2. the teams recruit many of the same areas as part of their overall footprint. 2014: QB, Deshaun Watson: Watson committed to Clemson and Morris as a sophomore. One key was getting in on Watson long before many other programs, notably Georgia. During Watson’s recruitment, he often talked about his relationship with Morris and said that was a big key. As National Signing Day neared, Clemson had to fend off an SEC team that had just played for a national title — Auburn. Clemson was adamant about not wanting commits to visit other schools, but Watson attempted to visit Auburn without anyone knowing. However, word got out and Clemson actually considered dropping him. In the end, though, Clemson stood by Watson, the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the country, and he stuck with Morris. He played just one season under Morris, who left for SMU, but while in college Watson set many records at Clemson, led the program to a national title, was a Heisman runner-up and eventual first-round pick. 2013: TE, Jordan Leggett: Leggett was just a 3-star recruit from the Florida panhandle when he signed with Clemson in 2013, but Morris saw great potential in the lanky 6-feet-5, 205-pound prospect. During his four years at Clemson, he caught 112 passes for 1,598 yards and 18 touchdowns. Eighty-six of his catches came after Morris left for SMU. The Jets selected Leggett in the fifth round (150th overall) of the 2017 draft. 2012: QB, Chad Kelly: Kelly was the No. 5 dual-threat quarterback in the country when he inked with Clemson. He redshirted in 2012 and backed up Tajh Boyd during Boyd’s terrific 2013 season. With a chance to possibly earn the starting spot the following year (he was expected to battle Watson), Kelly was dismissed from the team that April. He later resurfaced at Ole Miss and had two outstanding seasons the Rebels. Today, he’s a backup for the Colts.
Mysticbear 8
Why does everyone keep saying the recruiting will get better? Arkansas lost one recruit and that was Morris son. They are ranked 114 in recruiting and last year they ranked 20 so not sure why everyone says this is huge for recruiting.
