One of Indiana’s more promising talents in its front seven is no longer with the team.

Outside linebacker/defensive end Jaren Handy has been dismissed from the IU football team head coach Tom Allen said on Thursday during a Zoom press conference.

Allen said Handy faced a series of disciplinary issues and was suspended multiple times prior to being dismissed.

“Just a series of just disciplinary issues that we had to deal with, and dealt with those, and systematically had some suspensions involved there prior to this that led up to it,” Allen said. … “I’d say it was more of a collective. It wasn’t one thing, and that’s really what cumulatively came to that point, so made that decision and that’s where we’re at.”

Handy transferred to Indiana from Auburn following the 2020 season.  He was a consensus four-star prospect out of Hattiesburg, Miss. in the class of 2019, and he was ranked the No. 100 prospect nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings.

In his lone season at IU, the 6-foot-6 and 255 pound Handy played in the first nine games before he suffered a season-ending injury.  He made 19 tackles, one for loss, with one quarterback hurry.  Handy totaled a career-high seven stops with the tackle for loss at Maryland.  He was the second-highest graded Big Ten defender and ranked No. 8 among Power 5 defenders against the run per PFF against the Terrapins.

Indiana opens spring practice on March 5.
