Popular Post Zeek 16,657
This is probably going to be way more than anyone wants to read. I am going to essentially share every ounce of information I know and remember up to this point in the recruiting process. Please feel free to add something if needed because I'm human and inevitably forget a player here and there. A lot of my commentary is going to be opinion based as well so take it with a grain of salt. Quarterback - Looking to take 1 Don't take this as a negative because recruiting is fluid but Auburn's current main and sole target, 4* Brock Glenn, was not the primary choice by the staff. That would have been current 5* Christopher Vizzina who ended up committing to Clemson; which was a bit of a surprise at the time considering how early Auburn had gotten in on his recruitment. Our second option was Eli Holstein, a four-star Louisiana quarterback currently committed to Alabama; to be fair the staff loved him but Alabama pushed harder and faster while our Tigers were focused on Vizzina. This means Glenn is "plan C" so to speak. I don't want my fellow Auburn fans to despair. Glenn is by no means a slouch and has been turning heads at the Elite 11 camps and is detestably a better fit for Harsin's scheme. He has an "NFL arm" according to scouts and fits a pro-style scheme that Auburn wants to continually shift towards. So Glenn might not have been Auburn's first choice at the start of the process he has become a quick riser in the rankings and the staff would not feel like they were settling if they got his signature. For those still a little unsure simply consider his recent offer from Ohio State; the Buckeyes are very high on Glenn and have done everything they can to quickly schedule an Official Visit (OV) before his commitment date at the end of the month. This is a concern that Auburn will be watching. If Glenn sticks to his original commitment date (before the Elite 11 finals) then Auburn will be feeling incredibly confident. However, if Glenn decides to move back his commitment date then it's time to start worrying and potentially considering who is next on the board. One thing worth noting is that while he goes by Brock, his first name is actually "Auburn" and his family has deep ties and admiration to our lovely university. The level of confidence varies here but I am going to stay optimistic. It is my belief that Glenn loves Auburn and might actually be a borderline silent commit before the Ohio State offer; I believe the Buckeyes flirtations with Glenn will speed up the decision by other targets that Ohio State has. Prediction: Auburn signs Glenn at the end of June and doesn't pursue another quarterback in this class. If a quarterback on the roster transfers look for a portal quarterback to be brought in for depth. Running Back - Looking to take 2 Auburn's staff wants two running backs of different types. A shifty more elusive back with top-end speed and a power back. The Tigers favorite prospect throughout the entire process, despite interest in some other players, is 4* RB Jeremiah Cobb from Montgomery, AL. A smaller and elusive back with good receiving skills (think a younger Tre Mason) the staff likes his pro skill set (notice a theme?) and his character. A few people that have been around him emphasize he is an "Auburn Man" for what it's worth. His relationship with Cadillac Williams has been well documented as a reason why the Tigers are favored. Another major factor is that Cobb's family only lives about 45 minutes from campus and it has been shown to be something very appealing to the class of 2023 running back. All of this coupled with Auburn's success at the position and potential for playing time has Auburn in the driver's seat. It is widely believed that Tank Bigsby will leave for the NFL Draft early putting Auburn in a position where RB1 will be up for grabs. Surely we'll hear about a committee approach next year but Auburn has historically always had "that guy" at the running back position. The off season reports have been really high on Hunter's development post-injury. The weird you thing at this position is that Auburn is openly looking to sign two backs. Despite that there isn't the slightest whisper about who that might be. There is a rumor the staff is silently working on a very under the radar guy or that they might consider a transfer to fill Tank's experience being lost. Other sources imply maybe a player from the JuCo ranks. We will likely know more after Cobb commits. My belief is the staff is giving him their sole focus to lock him down right now. Prediction: Auburn signs Cobb and aims for another RB from high school; if the right guy isn't likely then we patiently wait for a transfer or JuCo prospect. Wide Receiver - looking to take at least three The main target is and has almost always been 4* Karmello English in terms of a speedy slot player. Our staff very much is still in the hunt for a bigger 6'2" or taller outside prospect but no name has really emerged quite yet. Another smaller receiver that Auburn has been targeting is 6'0" 4* Khai Prean who is actually listed as an Athlete. Auburn is believed to be the favorite for both English and Prean. Not much has been said bout Prean but English is supposed to be a very legitimate talent with game breaking ability. Still, Auburn wants a big outside guy with solid speed. Despite this need and desire we haven't seen any other names remotely mentioned. No visits, rumors, chatter, or speculation regarding any other receivers. It's possible Auburn will look to the portal again this next off season to fill gaps. The Tigers are set to lose a number of receivers between seniors and players getting to upper-classmen status that haven't seen the field much (and therefor are likely transfers out of the program). We added two receivers from the portal this year and I could see us repeating the process next year as well. Prediction: we add English and Prean (both guys at or under 6'0") and look for two guys 6'2"+ either from high school, JuCO, or the portal. Offensive Tackle - looking to take at least two from high school Put your reading glasses on because there is a lot here. Auburn might be listed as "warm" for 4* Wilkin Formby and he had nice things to say after visiting the Tigers but don't hold your breath; he literally lives in Tuscaloosa and the Tide have finally started to show him some love. Next there is 4* Bo Hughley one part of the "Langston Quartet" and currently a Georgia commit; his recent official visit has many feeling confident that Auburn is now the team to beat despite his committed status. There is also 4* Zechariah Owens who Auburn refuses to give up on despite there being very little traction with the Georgia native. Owens' teammate however, 4* DJ Chester, is buying whatever our Tigers are selling and some believe he might be our first commit over the summer. Another player that might get some attention were Auburn to miss on others is 4* Stanton Ramil who has gone rather quiet in the recruiting world. There are three other offensive tackles who I don't feel too confident about mentioning just yet. It is my belief that Auburn is simply setting the groundwork for backup plans should some things go south quickly. This is smart and shows some growth from last year. There were some positions last year where Auburn was going after BIG fish(es) and when it flopped we were left hanging. Auburn is well aware that a huge number of offensive linemen will exhaust their eligibility and that depth on the line has been a need for a few years now. The plan is to bring in a lot of young guys knowing they likely won't start but building the depth in the long run. It is likely we see a massive push for some big time transfers and JuCo guys that can play right away. Prediction: we flip Hughley and land Chester before looking for potential starters in the portal or JuCo ranks Inside Offensive Linemen - looking to take three Auburn is listed as warm with 4* OL Clay Wedin but it has been a long time since I have seen his name mentioned; it's likely one of the two sides has moved on from the other. Auburn High School's Bradyn Joiner has earned his 4th star recently and the Auburn commit has impressed despite his 6'1" frame; that height likely means he is projected at center. One of the more underrated players in this entire class is 3* RyQueze McElderry who is currently committed to Georgia but, like Hughley, it is believed that Auburn leads; he will need to drop some weight to be effective considering he is currently listed at 340 lbs. which is probably 30 too many. 3* Connor Lew is someone that Auburn might look to if there is a miss somewhere in the process. As stated above, it is likely Auburn looks for starting material in the portal or junior college ranks. The goal is to add two guards and a center from this group of high school prospects if at all possible. Prediction: we sign Joiner and McElderry and fill the remaining spots with experience players. Tight End - looking to take one This will be a shorter section (yay). 4* Jelani Thurman is where it starts and ends for Auburn. No backup options currently and no one else being entertained or brought on a visit. Another member of the "Langston Quartet" that Auburn is hoping to bring in to the fold. Previously I believed Auburn would take two in this class after entertaining the idea last year. Now, after hearing that Luke Deal plans on using his bonus year, I believe Auburn will be fine with just one unless someone transfers (I could see a Brandon Frazier or Fromm leaving if they don't see the field much this late in their career). Prediction: we sign Thurman and if someone transfers out we fill it with a transfer in return Defensive Linemen - looking to take four This will be a longer section especially considering I am combining Edge with the rest of the DL players. 4* Chandavian Bradley is listed as "warm" on 24/7 but there hasn't been any mention of him for quite some time. 4* Isaiah Nixon is a UCF commit and was at one time a key target; teams have recently dropped him way down in the evaluations as the process has played out and Auburn is no longer interested. Then there is 5* Peter Woods who visited Auburn a bunch early in the process but eventually went quiet; being a Thompson H.S. player it is easy to guess where he is going. THE guy for Auburn right now is 4* Keldric Faulk is possibly the biggest fish on the defensive side of the ball that our staff will land if things hold; everyone that has seen him in person says he looks like an NFL edge rusher right now. A player who is hard to read is 4* Hunter Osborne who, if I'm forced to bet, doesn't end up at Auburn. 4* Jamaal Jarrett is a North Carolina kid that Auburn would like to pull but I think we're currently playing from behind; his 6'6" 350 lbs. build is incredibly appealing. 4* Darron Reed is a possible backup plan. 4* Rueben Bain is a 50/50 between Auburn and his hometown Miami. It is my belief that Bain might actually be an Auburn lean but reporters are being cautious in their optimism. Our staff has done a phenomenal job building a relationship with Bain and his family. 4* Wilky Denaud is another possible fall back guy who will visit this weekend and we should know more about soon. 4* Anthony James recently decommitted from Texas A&M and Auburn has pounced on the opportunity to gain his attention. 3* Joshua Horton is another member of the "Langston Quartet" that Auburn appears to lead for; UCF is pushing hard trying to convince Horton he isn't an SEC player and will just ride the bench. Okay that was a little shorter than I thought. Outside of Faulk there are no definite here and Bain is really the only one we have seen on campus recently outside of Faulk. Auburn does have a need to load up on bodies here though despite the young JuCo and transfer additions. Prediction: Faulk, Horton, and Bain sign with the Tigers. Auburn probably aims to add two more as well. Linebackers - looking to take two to three This is one of the more fluid situations in Auburn's 2023 recruiting cycle. 4* Jaiden Ausberry was assumed to be virtual lock to the Tigers but a Notre Dame visit has "opened his eyes" according to one reporter; if Auburn isn't the choice it's safe to assume he wants to blaze his own trail. Auburn has done everything right in the recruitment of Ausberry ever since they started recruiting his older brother. 4* CJ Allen is another top target for Auburn but Georgia is his unquestioned favorite; the problem for Allen is that he isn't prioritized as highly as some other backers on the Dogs board. 4* Drayk Bowen was smitten with Auburn and the idea of moving out of the cold north before ultimately deciding to stay close to home at Notre Dame. 4* Lewis Carter from Tampa is listed as "cold" on 24/7 but Auburn is believed to very much be in the running. 4* Dee Crayton and Auburn seemed to be mutually high on each other but both have since distanced themselves. 4* Stanquan Clark likes Auburn but pulling him out of Miami would be a huge task and Auburn is believed to be trailing in this recruitment. 3* Phil Picciotti from Pennsylvania is a potential fall back option but would be a hard pull due to distance from home. 3* Eric Muse and NR Marcellius Pulliam are both guys Auburn is keeping in touch with as potential fall back options as well. I have said it here before but our linebacker recruiting with the new staff has not impressed me. We have had a lot of "misses" at this position and it feels like Ausberry, Carter, and Crayton all might end up adding to that list of fails. Would like to see the staff get Jaiden on campus again, hard push for Carter, and try to convince Allen to come to a school that prioritizes him first. Prediction: Honestly don't feel confident enough to predict any of these players to Auburn. It is a deep linebacker class and I think we will add at least two players at the position. Defensive Backs - looking to sign 4 Regarding corner backs the staff isn't seemingly pushing for too many in this class. 5* Tony Mitchell made a bunch of visits early but is largely just a troll enjoying the attention of the recruiting process. One player the Auburn fan base was really excited about was possible flip candidate 5* Jahlil Hurley who was openly dissatisfied with the lack of fan reaction to his commitment and Alabama cooling on his recruitment after he committed; like a girlfriend not getting enough attention he came and flirted with Auburn and many thought he was going to flip any second... then the jealous boyfriend came, likely upped the size of the "bag", and started doting on Hurley again and he allowed himself to be suckered back into the fold for the Tide. Auburn is now looking at players that are honestly projects at the corner position including 6'2" 180lbs 3* Ja'Keem Jackson who reportedly ran a sub 4.40 and has the staff quite intrigued; his talent is there but his skills are raw. Additionally there is 3* Dale Miller who Auburn has kept in contact with but there hasn't been too much momentum. With DJ James, Keionte Scott, Austin Ausberry, JD Rhym, and others all with multiple years at corner I don't think there is a huge sense of urgency here. Regarding safeties, Auburn has a bit more positive news to report. 4* Terrance Love is a stud that has been a little overlooked because of how early committed. The Tigers are also working on 4* DaKaari Nelson from Selma, AL who is a solid 6'3" 203 lbs. with decent speed. There are supposedly a few more names being kept on the down low. I haven't seen any specifics but the number of visits is starting to spike and with reviews being so positive word is spreading that an Auburn OV is one worth taking. Prediction: Jackson, Love, and two others is the plan. Still some ambiguity in this position too but Zac Etheridge is given a long leash and all the respect imaginable. I, and more importantly the staff, trust him as a recruiter. Things are fluid so I'm sure this will be outdated soon but I wanted to share what I know. I have been trying to stay on top of all the news and stay active in the recruiting world to keep y'all updated a little bit more than what headlines can tell you. Thanks and War Eagle! 8
80Tiger 899
Thanks for the time and effort you put into this. A lot of good info in this. The only thing for me, is I did not come away feeling very good about recruiting. Sounds like a lot of back up plans are in play and A LOT of waiting on the portal and JUCO transfers that are yet to be identified. Appreciate the work though. 3
Sizzle 3,916
Thanks for the info. When it comes the WR, English he doesn’t look that fast to me on his highlights. I still hope he commits to us but he don’t look fast to me, maybe he’s just a long strider. As for the big time in state DB’s, I knew from the beginning we wasn’t getting any of them even after the good showing at the iron bowl I still knew. Bama has a chokehold on big time Birmingham metro guys smh Also I really wished we could’ve got Vizzina, he’s a 5 star for a reason. Glenn doesn’t look bad but I can understand how he was plan C. He kinda reminds me of Sean White, who wasn’t bad but wasn’t good either

I filled some spots where I don't have a name with JuCo/transfer assumptions. Plain and simple our staff is playing deep from behind in terms of a few positions and the portal has become a way of life. The offensive line that is leaving can't be replaced with 2023 high school players right away so if we don't want to watch a bunch of underclassmen flailing in starting spots it's going to be stop-gap guys while we build up depth. It's not great or beautiful but it's where we are at right now. I feel pretty happy with where we are at for whatever it's worth.

That's a long different conversation though. Yeah I really wanted Vizzina but it's hard to argue we're a better program than Clemson in the last few years for a quarterback (barring last year) and they actually have a better sales pitch for starting sooner with DJ being trash. I do think Glenn has a better build than Sean White and a stronger arm. Regardless, the staff is so bought into Holden as the guy of the future so it will be fun to see how things progress.

That is actually what gave me a little more hope. In the past we went for the big fish then if we didn't, We then started to try and get a backup into play. From what he said at some positions we look good with the big fish at others not so good but in almost all we have quality backups some as 4*'s and other's as 3*'s with raw talent but need work. The one area that did bother me was LB. Edited June 16, 2022 by AuburnNTexas

Although I still feel like we need more traction with top recruits @ OL, DL, linebacker & WR. It's crazy to me that we don't have more Oline committed or at least visiting given the enormous amount of playing time that will soon be available. Are we not offering much in terms of NIL? or is it that current recruits do not yet have faith in our Oline coach, system & overall development process? I'm not as worried about LBs, DL or Edge, but perhaps I should be if we don't end up signing the guys in your predictions. And any idea how much of it is NIL vs. our coaches, their lack of SEC track record, & lack of local connections? Zeek 16,657
Auburn Live (on3) had a live video today answering questions and here is some intel from it: Lance Heard received an offer today he is a 4* OL who is absolutely excited to come visit. Goof friends with current Auburn freshman Enyce Sledge. 4* OT Ramil is taking an unofficial visit this week but Auburn is going to treat it like an official thinking it might be our last time getting him on campus before he decides. Auburn's chances aren't bad and he would be a legacy player. The Thompson HS connection is a problem as always. 4* OT Formby is out. Which I reported previously. 3* Edge - Ashley Williams is a long shot. Not sure why a fan asked about him considering his name has not been mentioned in a longgggg time and Auburn has bigger fish on the line currently. 4* LB Jaiden Ausberry - has told our staff that he is in no rush to make a decision and that he is waiting to see how the beginning of our season plays out. The demise in this regard has been incredibly over dramatic. On3 still feels optimistic for Auburn especially if he returns to AU. It's a Notre Dame vs AU battle and how we perform will be key. December commitment date. NR Jacorious Hart is a player to watch. He is 6'2" 175 runs a sub 4.4 40 and has a 4.20 GPA in Auburn's backyard. Goes to Loachapoka. People are idiotically asking about Hurley and Woods (the latter of which we didn't make the final 4 and everyone knew we wouldn't the kid come from the school that might as well be a bama feeder). They like the chances with 3* DL Josh Horton. I'm still a little curious if we really love him or if we think he helps us with the rest of the "quartet" We're running second to UGA for Jamaal Jarrett but it's not a big gap and we're narrowing it. Someone asked about Ethan Nation and Avery Stuart I literally have no idea why. They're not remotely relevant to who we are pursuing. Too many people asking questions about guys we are not pursuing. To be fair not everyone hype obsesses like some of us. On3 still feels comfortable predicting somewhere between anywhere between 5-8 in the class before the summer ends. I think that's a little conservative personally but we do have a few guys set on waiting to see results. Qua Russaw and James Smith are scheduled to make their 5th visit to Auburn. James Smith is a long shot (another guy I haven't heard too much about). They're going to be December announcements. We are in the top five for both at the very least. Russaw would be a mind blowingly huge win but I haven't seen the smoke to signify there is a fire with him. They expect Brock Glenn to announce before June 28th and Karmello English will announce July 2nd. Some weird chatting about English possibly being a last second flip to Kentucky but I would be absolutely surprised; Auburn has been the favorite for sooooo long. Conversely, they feel more confident about Glenn than I do. It is my hope and expectation that we get both. Answering who they think could be a surprise commitment, DJ Chester is one answer that two of them agreed upon. Bo Hughley is another one mentioned but it might be a later decision if he does flip. Otherwise they didn't really give any fun answers. Tausili Akana wants to return for a game. Interesting player to track. McElderry three-star OG is committed to Georgia but Auburn might be the favorite right now. He wants a decision to be made before the end of July. 4* TE Jelani Thurman is also wanting to have a choice before the end of July 4* RB Jeremiah Cobb wants a decision before his senior season. 4* Edge - Faulk also wants a decision before his senior season. Some mumbling about receivers but they admit they really don't know. Wilky Denaud, who I mentioned previously, realllly liked his visit and now we might be a front runner. Edge rushers who are on the fence about committing might want to hop on board before we fill up at that position. 4* Edge and UGA commit Gabriel Harris has locked in an OV which is abit of a surprise Best quote of the video "I don't take any recruit for his word" Nothing too surprising. We're in better spots on some guys that I thought we had gone quiet on... English is the only one I left feeling less positive about. 2 3
au302 2,669
Thanks @Zeekthat was a phenomenal breakdown. Really appreciate the time and effort you take to provide us this. Personally, I'm pretty concerned with DL. I think Brumbaugh is busting his rear end and has 100 guys interested, but 99 of them view him as their fallback. Disagree on LB. Think Woodyard is a stud and Gordon raw but high upside. I am overly confident in CRob. Any dude that takes Twill's lunch regularly on the trail has my confidence. Here is what I'm thinking Friend ideally wants in a perfect world... I think he wants Joiner and Mcelderry for interior, Hughley and Heard at OT, and Chester as his flex guy who can play inside or out. Then he'd take best available for the 6th spot. Likely Connor Lew, or maybe Connor Stroh (highly unlikely). My guess is that Geffrard will be Mcelderry's backup option. We got him on ice until December, and can probably get him then. The good news is that UGA just got an OG commit, and Kelton Smith is trending their way. Telling sign?? For backup OT's, I think they push heavily for Ramil if come his decision time we don't think we have any shot at all with Heard, Isaiah Robinson, etc. and don't want to risk dragging it out. Then one of the 3 secret OT's for Hughley's backup. JLee and them seem so confident in Chester that there may not be a backup option for him at this point. The way I see it if we miss on him we're screwed anyways, but signs are quickly pointing our way with him. Hence the fall off of communication with Clay Wedin lately and his commitment to MSU tonight. Interesting times on the OL board 2
Sizzle 3,916
Iirc English hasn’t even taking a visit to Auburn and didn’t he announce he’s committing as soon as he was done with his Kentucky visit? That don’t look good for us if he did

Would you care to elaborate on the above problem(s)? If it is $ kickbacks, couldn't our recruiting department anonymously file complaints with the NCAA and the Alabama High School Sports association? Tre was a good OLB with size but just too slow overall---he could not keep up with SEC speed and did not even do much once he transferred to Jax St. however, he is a very nice guy and comes from good family. 2

Some HS coaches have had too much updyke $$ (untraceable ca$h) in their pockets, new pick-up trucks, massive donations to their HS Booster Clubs, huge facility upgrades and expansions with bids clearing from updyke businesses and favorable financing from updyke backed banks, etc. It just so happens the current crop of in-state talent is at an all time high and a ton of $$ has been thrown around in anticipation of this recruiting class. 2

I hope we can get to around 10 by mid August. Historically that's not far off
