What are Auburn’s bowl projections after New Mexico State loss

Published: Nov. 20, 2023, 2:36 p.m.

Following its 31-10 upset loss to New Mexico State, Auburn’s bowl projections have taken a shift.

Many now have Auburn spending the days right after Christmas in Houston.

Auburn possibly played itself out of a Gator Bowl spot by losing to New Mexico State. While the Texas Bowl does make some sense for Auburn, a Texas A&M team likely to finish 7-5 also would be a fit given proximity to Houston.

Most projections suggest Auburn finishes the year 6-6 and closing the year with consecutive losses to New Mexico State and Alabama. Auburn plays Alabama at 2:30 Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Here’s a look at where some major websites think Auburn will end up.

The Action Network: Auburn vs Oklahoma State in Texas Bowl.

CBS Sports: Auburn vs Kansas State in the Texas Bowl

USA Today: Auburn vs Iowa State in Liberty Bowl

ESPN: Both Mark Schlabach and Kyle Bonagura project Auburn to the Music City Bowl. Schlabach picks Auburn against Northwestern, Bonagura against Wisconsin.

247Sports: Auburn vs Oklahoma State in the Texas Bowl

Athlon Sports: Auburn vs Wisconsin in the Music City Bowl

The Sporting News: Auburn vs Oklahoma in the Texas Bowl.

The Texas Bowl is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Dec 27.

The Music City Bowl is scheduled for 1 p.m. on Dec. 30.

The Liberty Bowl is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 29.

There's absolutely no way we get matched up with a 10-2 Oklahoma team. I agree with Schlabach and Bonagura here.

I’m going to selfishly hope that Auburn doesn’t end up in the Texas Bowl.  It would probably be a more marquee matchup but I’m not going to Houston to watch a 6-6,7-5 Auburn team play OkState or Oklahoma.  I like my original plan of BBQ and gambling for the Liberty bowl or the 1.5hr drive to Nashville.

If we win the IB then Music City is probably a lock. If we lose then we’re headed to Memphis.

Just so long as one of FSU or Clemson wins, we should avoid B'ham.

Doesn’t seem like an even match up to me.

Auburn would be a 1.5 or 2 point favorite against OK State on a neutral field according to my numbers (mostly K Ford)

That’s surprising to me, believe they have 8 wins at this point.

Funny enough, they also have a G5 blowout loss (6-5 South Alabama).

Auburn is top 20 in the talent composite ranking (18 IIRC). OK State is outside the top 50. They lost to USA and got absolutely obliterated by Gus and UCF. They did be OU though lol

If I were impartial I’d probably take Auburn and the points. Jarquez could probably have a day against them.

If Auburn could somehow play Iowa in a bowl game that would be great.  I think Auburn would actually win by 2 scores.  A win against a 10-2 team in a bowl would be great.

Oklahoma would smoke Auburn

Auburn is not beating Iowa.

Bird, if you go to Shreveport, get some strawberry pie at Strawn's on Kings Highway. Go out of your way if you have to. Trust me.

Shreveport sucks, but you can have a fun night there. Enjoy the tailgating and food, like you already said, and spend the night at one of the casino boats.

Then get the hell out of town because it's all diminishing returns after that.

Yea they seem to pride themselves with their boardwalk section but Shreveport is such a dump lol

Well, both Florida and South Carolina lost, so if there's one positive from today, we're not going to B'ham.

If badgers, I wonder if they’ll shove Alvarez ceremonially back on the sidelines to beat us yet again?
