Okay. Not the usual hits, the expected. I'm talking about the really good stuff that was overshadowed by other hits. You may kind of remember them, but maybe not. These are the cuts that grow on you, but somehow stayed out of the limelight.

"Grandma's Hands" -- Bill Withers

"In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" -- The Allman Brothers

"Straw Hat and Dirty Old Hank" -- The Bare Naked Ladies

"Maxwell's Silver Hammer" -- The Beatles

"Denis" -- Blondie

"I Feel Free" -- Cream

"Sultans of Swing" -- Dire Straits

"Cocaine" -- Jackson Browne

"Red House" -- Jimi Hendrix

"Personal Jesus" -- Johnny Cash (Courtesy of Depeche Mode)

"Mercy Street" -- Peter Gabriel

"Strange Currencies" -- REM

"Mother's Little Helper" -- The Rolling Stones

"Crosseyed and Painless" -- The Talking Heads

"Play It All Night Long" -- Warren Zevon

So what are yours?

"Beth" was the B-side of the single "Detroit Rock City". At the time, the band thought it was a throwaway song and it was added to the album last minute just as filler.

But radio stations started flipping DRC over and playing Beth more often. It became one of only two KISS Top Ten singles (the other was, ironically, another ballad "Forever" in 1990).

Beth was also the only KISS song with no instrumental performances by any of the band members. Peter Criss -- the song's writer -- performed it solo with taped instrumental backing. The song was originally titled "Beck" in homage to Becky, Criss' girlfriend at the time. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons convinced him to change the words to "Beth" so that it would make more sense.
