MLB Opening Day Has Three Former Tigers In The Big Leagues

Recommended Posts

Three former Auburn baseball players were listed on

MLB Opening Day rosters as play got underway on Monday across the

American and National Leagues. Gabe Gross is in his second year with the

American League Champion Tampa Bay Rays while Tim Hudson and David Ross

are with the Atlanta Braves.

Gross made his MLB debut in 2004 with the Toronto Blue Jays and has

also played for the Milwaukee Brewers in his five-year big league

career. A career .242 hitter, he played in 127 games last year as the

Rays played in the World Series for the first time in franchise history.

He played at Auburn from 1999-2001 and was an All-American outfielder in

2000.

Hudson is in his fifth year with the Braves but will start the year on

the 60-day disabled list following Tommy John surgery last summer. In 10

big league seasons, he has compiled a 146-77 record with a 3.48 career

ERA, striking out 1,372 with both the Braves and the Oakland As. He

played at Auburn in 1996-97, winning the Rotary Smith Award in 1997 as

the national player of the year.

Ross begins his first season with Atlanta after debuting in the big

leagues in 2002 with the Los Angeles Dodgers. In a seven-year big league

career, he has played for the Dodgers, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Diego

Padres, Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox before landing with the

Braves this season. A career .222 hitter, he played at Auburn alongside

Hudson in 1996-97.

The minor league seasons begins later this week for most leagues with

the exception of some of the low-A teams, which will not begin until

this summer.
