Liberal Bastion Vermont Gives Up On Single Payer Health Care

Judging by what they said, it sounds more like "delays" than "gives up on." But still, once again, a noble effort runs into problems providing universal care for a cost people and businesses are willing to live with. There's nothing wrong whatsoever with trying to get everyone covered by health insurance. But doing it well for prices that people are willing to pay seems ever elusive.

If they raised state taxes as much as the article mentioned, a lot of their New York and Massachusetts people may go back home...

Vermont has less than 700,000 people. It would be difficult to sustain a single payer insurance system based on just state taxes

It can't be done. Government will make a mess of it every time.

It can be done. If the private and public sector wanted it to happen we could have a tiered system that fills the gaps and allows everyone to get coverage and/or access to basic healthcare. Politics and crony capitalism won't get out of the way.
