2015 5* JUCO RB Jovon Robinson commits to AU!

That would be great. I'm pretty sure this guy will be a 5 star by the end of his senior season. (That is, for the couple of lameos on here that are into star ratings (like me)).

I disagree. He plays in one of the worst states for high school football so unfortunately the rating services will under rate him a bit unless he gets to prove himself against better competition in the all star season.

I think Mike Dyer proved this theory wrong, wouldn't you say Arkansas isn't that fertile (top to bottom) of a high school football pipeline? Just sayin'.

It has been a little better than Tennessee  recently. I am not saying JR is not a 5* prospect. All I am saying is the experts will tend to under value him because of the weak competition...especially if they are GaGa on another prospect.

Listen, guys, if Mason is in, which apparently he is, we are going to take only one more RB this year.  And that guy better be confident in his abilities and mental preparedness, because with the stable we have in house now, he's going to have the fight of a lifetime for playing time.  No kid is going to commit now unless he is ready for that fight.  If JR commits, that's the end of our RB class.

Exactly.

I believe JR is the guy.  People better get off the KM trian.  If we get his committment, we are done.

I LOVE JR and have been on his bandwagon for a few months now.  I liked him and I-Train from the start and still would love to have either of them at AU.  However as an outsider looking in I have to think that if KM wants to come to AU there will be room for him no matter if we have JR or not.  KM is not the same type of back as JR but he is the type of weapon any team would want.  We also don't want him at thUGA even though history says that Richt would not utilize him correctly anyway.  So far this class we have have TJ and I don't really see him as a RB/HB though I am sure he will get his shot.  We def have a need for another big back like JR or I'tavious Mathers (
) for the HB spot.  Would love to have a RB for this class as well since we have only one proven RB in Dyer and two young fellows in MB, and TM (knock on wood).  I should mention too that Morgan is back at RB for the 2nd time since we have no depth for this upcoming season.  OMAC (who is one of my favorites) and Bray (if he stays at RB) are situational backs.  So yes, I can see the coaches having no problem in inking an H-back, plus an every down RB the quality of KM.  If we don't get KM then it is because he wants to go someplace else, not because we can't use him or don't have room.  Sometimes you miss a top target, but with KM or without this class is going to be a part of something special at AU no matter what.

I've been checking all day to see if anything had been posted on here or on TOS, but the recent addition of the War Room had, when initially posted, said that he expected a commitment from JR after visiting the 16th.  J. Lee later went in there and revised that post to say that he expects us to strengthen our standing at the top after that visit.  Anybody got any insight as to why he felt the need to do that?

To cover his behind. If he does commit, it does mean that we strengthened our standing at the top. If he doesn't commit, he is still right. Just a safer comment.

You mean one spot for RB right?  From the start word was AU was going after two HB and a RB.  We have one possible HB in TJ so far who could still end up at another position. I don't think AU will stop recruiting KM for RB just because we get a commitment from a big back like JR.

Would be interested in hearing a mod's take on what the coaches plans are for this classes numbers in the offensive back field.

I think ST and I both have already mentioned it before, but.... before we received transfers from Mike Blakely and Corey Grant, the AU coaches were SERIOUSLY looking to sign 2 RB's this year and 1 HB (hybrid/speed back)... now that we do have those two backs on the roster, and both will be ready to go next season (MB possibly this year), then the "need" for RB's went down significantly. That being said, I believe that the staff would still love to sign two RB's this year, and I believe that any combo of Yeldon, Marshall, Robinson, etc.. would suffice. ST and I both tend to think that the odds are that will end up with Yeldon and Robinson and call it a day. That would leave Marshall in a situation where it wouldn't make much sense for him to come to AU with a RB depth chart that would include Dyer, O-Mac, Gully (possibly), Mason, Blakely, Grant, Yeldon, AND Robinson. Although it would be nice to have him in there as a "luxury"... it would be about the lowest "position of need" on the whole team at that point. Now that being said... IF in some bizaare situation we were to get a commitment from Robinson, and then Marshall decided that he just LOVED AU and absolutely did NOT want to play anywhere besides the Plains (which I would completely understand  ;)), then I think the coaches would have a tough time telling him "Thanks, but no thanks!" I wouldn't hold my breath on that happening though.  :-[

DJ thanks for the reply.  I was also thinking the offer would always be there for KM if he wanted to come to AU no matter what.  And at first glance there is a lot of names listed at RB for 2012 and beyond but on closer look I see that there would be lots of chances for KM to play early in his career at the RB spot.  Thinking about KM taking turns with MB in the same backfield with JR at HB, plus Frazier or Pike at QB playing behind the most athletic line in football...man I can't wait!

I'm sorry I just feel like we need to take KM more than anyone else. I've been saying that all along and I will maintain that all year and for years to come. Keith Marshall has world class speed and I think he's the fastest recruit this year. With that said, JR looks like he'll be very very good himself. I'm just partial to KM is all. Either way, I think Auburn will be great in the area of running backs as it has been so many times.

If Marshall were to commit first, I don't think they'd take Jovon.

The chances of KM committing before JR is slim so it's a mute point.

bird in the hand, baby!  will happily take whoever commits first amongst those two, and take the other down the road if he wants to come.  we will keep the door open for a handful of select recruits up till signing day ... goldman, diggs, KM, Peat, (DGB, Spence  :))

Just as you shouldn’t confuse metal with medal due to seemingly similar meanings, you should avoid confusing mute and moot too.  ;D ;D :tease: :tease: ;D ;D
