Saw several tweets from AU beat writers, that Toney was at H-Back in pre-game warmup. Also, Slade back at right guard and Young left guard.

Just got back from the field a few minutes ago, but wanted to note that Cameron Toney, a LB by trade, was working with the H-backs.

Probably trying a few different things against our last non-conference game for a couple of months to get the blocking jump started.

Gus needs someone who is physical and not afraid of contact! I like the move, instant success

I don't know about instant success, but I agree with the rest. And seeing as Toney hasn't been getting much action at LB, I like the choice of him as the guy to try it out with.

FB and WRs not making the blocks....and this is a minor league team. Other than Nick being shifty, the running game does not look like a top 5 offense.

JMO But something needs to change by next week or LSU will eat up all the outside stuff.

Need Braden at Left guard

Amen. I got blasted a little stating i'd like to see someone else at LG. If #62 is going to be on the field i'd rather he had stayed at RG.

if Toney is moved to HBack, i suspect it's more indication he had not made much push at LB. We need both positions. He is still young, maybe he will find a spot to contribute.

Ya so idt Gus is sandbagging. I think Slade isn't that good and we don't have a good H-Back. I'd like to see Barber running it more.

Me too. I just don't understand why not play Barber and Thomas more, especially against teams like SJSU and Lala Tech. That way they get their feet wet more and CAP gets a break before the meat grinder. :gofig:

IMO, if CAP and the OL were playing lights put with the chemistry we saw at the end of last year or even against Arkansas then Barber and Thomas would have already seen more PT. However, I think this was an attempt to get that unit as much work as possible before the grind starts.

I think it needs to be Braden left guard, so Slade and Young can return and both be on right side of line. Why not use Denson or Ray at h back, they can block and their then is the threat of the wheel route. Barber needs to be used more,he quicker to the hole than Payne. Always that Pettway would of started at h back over Fulse.

Here is the good news

Alabama-weak secondary,only one wr,o line is avg

Florida St-weak defense,o line struggling

Oregon- o line a mash unit, no defense

Oklahoma -weak secondary

I'm with cole on this one. The last time I heard anyone complain about a guy switching sides of the ball it was due to us "wasting" Rudy Ford's offensive talent. That's turned out just fine for Auburn and Ford. Maybe this is a stroke of genius; maybe it's a mistake. I'll trust Ellis (if he was willing to lose the guy) and Scott Fountain/Tim Horton (if they wanted the guy).

As far as Braden Smith. He'll have his time. Danzey looked good, and we know the Slade/Young battery works well. (See: 2013).

It is one thing to block defensive backs in space and crack down on linebackers, but quite another to lead through the hole and take on the first guy at the second level. It takes an entirely different mindset...one which is closer to that of a linebacker, quite frankly. If memory serves, Jay Prosch was a linebacker in high school who switched to FB in college, and I know Gage Batten was a linebacker before the failed experiment of making him Prosch's understudy.

Anyone know if Toney played any offense before?

What's the latest on Batten? Isn't he hurt? I was watching some highlights of the Chris Todd Gus attack and sure do miss having a guy like Eric Smith around. Got several passes out of backfield that year. Basically I miss Prosch! Haha
