So...haven't seen an opinion on whether this new "face" will generate any new business for Nike ?     That is usually the purpose of an advertising campaign.

Yes.

Apex Marketing estimates this has bought them around 43,000,000 in exposure in just 24 hours.

Exposure?   How about sales.?  too early to tell...... but exposure?    Ohio State got a lot of exposure the last few weeks......and I expect they could have done without it :-\

I think they will and I think it was calculated. Company's like Nike don't take shareholder dollars for granted. It was a well researched objective.

It will appeal to the audience they’re targeting. They’ll make their money. From a marketing perspective, they hit this one out of the park.

That's just a matter of keeping the same customers....I'm wondering whether they will take business from whoever their nearest competitors are?

Meanwhile, stock prices took a bit of a hit...but probably temporary though I read there is quite a bit of short selling. :dunno:

And it was a good day to buy Nike IMO.

Yeah. Ignore the noise. They’ll be fine.

Your post was ignorant. I simply pointed it out. The percentage of white nationalist/neo-nazi's in this country are minuscule and irrelevant. Bring forth a legitimate point and we can debate it.

Nope.  The percentage of white nationalists isn't relevant to the post or the point it was making.  Try harder.

Gotta give Nike some credit....in less than 20 years it went from being the poster child for  "Asian sweatshop abusers" to become the champion of the poor and underclasses and made the owners very rich at the same time.   .

How did they do it.?   They tightened up source selection, then raised prices which is fair to do......but mostly they did it by selling $30 sports shoes for $100+ so they can then pay oppressed NBA players $25 to $40 million per year in royalties.   Which of course,  is actually being paid by those  young 18-25 black males who are reported to be Nike's marketing target and primary customer base. .

Great deal for Nike, very good deal for the NBA guys....and not so good a deal for young men who buy a pair of over-price shoes because some athletic hero endorses them..   Ain't capitalism great....:)

...Whether that gamble pays off remains to be seen. But Nike apparently wasn’t the only shoe company that eyed a larger platform for Kaepernick. Industry insiders told Yahoo Sports that Adidas and Puma were among multiple brands that had conversations about potentially building around Kaepernick if Nike failed to renew his deal following a long stretch of endorsement inactivity.

“We talked about Colin in March. A lot, actually,” one shoe industry executive said. “We all know the specific kind of deals NFL players are on with each other. His deal was running out and he had a shoe commitment that hadn’t been done for whatever reason. I’m sure it was because of everything that was going on around him. But it looked like Nike was running out the clock on [his deal] because he didn’t have a lot of time left and nothing was really happening with him. So there were some discussions for us about what kind of an endorser he could be.

“It’s apparent that, you know, even though he isn’t playing, he’s still connecting with a lot of people. I also think he’s exponentially more popular, and in some cases unpopular, than he ever was in the NFL.”

Passages released in advance include an account claiming that President Trump hated making a speech that criticized Neo-Nazi protesters.

The speech was meant to denounce those involved in the "Unite the Right" protest in Charlottesville, in which white supremacists held a rally and one counter-protester was killed when a Neo-Nazi drove a car through a crowd.

"That was the biggest f****** mistake I've made," said Trump to his aides, according to Woodward's account, adding that it was "worst speech I've ever given."

Trump Defends Initial Remarks on Charlottesville; Again Blames ‘Both Sides’

https://foreignpolicy.com/2017/08/17/donald-trump-is-a-nazi-sympathizer/

What Will You Choose?

How long will America’s highest officials continue to support Trump's monstrous behavior?

The late U.S. Poet Laureate Dr. Maya Angelou once said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them!”

In other words, no one can hide his true nature. Never has this been more accurate for an American president than in the case of Donald Trump. Events in the aftermath of the violence in Charlottesville have made this abundantly clear. For the first time in our history, a Nazi sympathizer occupies the Oval Office. His comments during a press conference on August 15 in which he spontaneously reiterated his support for white supremacist protesters left the world slack-jawed in disbelief and forced a stark moral choice upon senior officials in his administration: vigorously denounce the heinous views of the man they serve, resign in protest, or be forever linked to America’s first Nazi-supporting president.

And so on.....

(Alas, I must admit I can't find an actual  poll of Nazis or white nationalists questioning their support of Trump, but I am pretty sure it would be close enough to 100% for all practical purposes.)

I'm not sure what point you are making here.  Products are worth what people will pay for them.  If those kids value shoes, then so be it.  Others value over-priced cars that get you to the same points that a cheaper Toyota Corolla could also do.  I place more value on travel than others, so I spend higher dollars to fly with certain airlines or stay in certain hotels.

Just my opinion but hawking over priced shoes to impressionable  kids who likely can barely afford them does not rise much on the scale of social awareness.  Good for Nike for running a profitable business but don't try to make us believe there is some motive involved other than $$$.

This is just more green marketing for dollar purposes. I don't buy Nike gear and never have for a reason. Blew out a set of Nike cleats 2 games into a season. Why I immediately went back to these.... introduced in 1979 and still one of the most popular shoes from recreational league all the way up to the Champions League. Still tops in fact in 2018 for quality and durability. Sure I will be promoted now as a Nazi for supporting German products.

Honestly these days I purchase alot of workout gear from Reebok at Sam's Club, especially the shorts. Dri Fit gear for 12 bucks.

I never said anything about how many of them there are.  I said they all support Trump.

You know that's true, which is exactly why you are trying to change the substance of my statement. ;)
