Thankful we got Harsin when we did

Well, as long as that isn't what it takes to get the recruits banging down our door. Currently it's pretty quiet on that front, and we still have plenty of ground to cover.

I agree recruiting has to improve. Is that your concern with the first season record?

Indeed. Harsin did bring us from 48 to 19 two months into the job for that first class, to his credit.

The MODs did a job zapping the Penn State guys, but I truly wish they would get rid of a couple posters clearly agitated by the hiring of CBH. IMO, they are worse than the Penn State guys.

So we ban people that don't agree with us? I don't like that idea.

Cool, I see where you are coming from. To me, there's no magical number of wins to sway recruits. It's about program momentum, enthusiasm for the new coach, etc. That can come in many different ways and at 7, 8, or 9 wins.

For example, if I was a recruit, I know I'd be interested in a 3 star like Hunter showing out in his first 2 games as a true freshman.

Did I say that? If that was the case I would ask that you be ban because I don’t agree with 90 percent of the things you say. We need to ban people who obviously have nothing to add to the conversation other than trolling or trying to rile people up because they still enjoy Gus.

The funny thing is this guy , wrong again, making assumptions about what I said when I honestly had no issue with the penn state guys being here. They are just talking crap which I thought was highly entertaining. But you have “Auburn” people who really don’t like CBH or our AD and instead of just saying that will just troll. It is one thing if you are a rival but to be an “Auburn fan” and continuously take pit shots at your HC or AD? Why are you even here

Those were all true road games against top 10 opponents? Huh.

That 8 point loss to Clemson? We put up 117 yards of total offense in that game. It was the single worst job of offensive game planning I've ever seen, which is shocking given how badly Gus coached the previous Clemson matchup. Of course, you might not have seen the problem with the CoxCat.

How are the bama games- road games against a top 10 opponent- in no way similar? What does that even mean?

The fact is dude said that Gus typically lost games like this by 17 points, which you refuted. The exact number is 16.56 points on average so you should really just take the L and keep walking.

Lordy, why do you folks still do this to yourselves?? You don't have to apologize for him anymore. Is it because we're still paying him $7 million a year? I'd think it would work the other way but hey, that would only be like the 159th weirdest thing of the last couple years.

You did too much my brother lol. Walked right into the trap.

It’s too early to say for sure.   Like others have already mentioned, after the 2013 season most of us thought Gus was gonna be a great coach!    I think some of us learned our lesson, and have a more reasonable approach to these things.   With all that said, CBH so far has checked the boxes I was looking for.   There are a lot of top notch coaching minds employed at AU right now. Hard work, 1v1s, solid planning and play calling that isnt so predictable, among many more…..   The biggest concern I have right now is how long will it take him to bring in top level talent?  So far, that seems to be the one area (and it’s a really important one) that we’re lacking in so far under Harsin.

I figure at least 2 years, which is optimistic. Depends a lot on what we show this season and next.

Exactly. And Gus got to 9 wins in 3 of 7 seasons. Why are some trying to set that as the standard for Harsin's first season? I think I know why, but it's weird.

And all wins and losses aren't the same. For example, let's not blow a huge lead with insane play calling. Let's never, ever have 117 yards of total offense in a game.

Speaking for myself, I have no  W/L "standard for" Harsin's first year.

My only "standards" are improvement in schemes (game planning), execution and toughness.  Those are all subjective and may not depend on whether you won or lost.

I vote to leave it wide open. Let the fools expose themselves. It's all part of the fun, to me.

It's about trash talk. But - in my experience - most football forums are far more restrictive and arbitrary than this site. AU Family is very open to respectful opposition posters (including  good natured jabs).

Anyway, if visiting posters are offering no value other than insults and braggadocio, why not zap them? They're consuming digital space and our time.

Also the whole thing with them firing Kiffin on the tarmac and not letting him fly home on the team plane...

Curious if Hars would've wanted to live in LA. I'm sure maybe for the right price, and he did have recruiting connections all around there. But also I don't think it's an accident that he would up in a town like Auburn. He might've also seen which way the wind was blowing with conference alignment and such.

But you're right. Glad we got our guy and aren't stressing a bidding war for him or whoever else they go after.

fresh water must be an ass because i think saban left him once or twice as well according to the news. when he chills some he probably gets better than he is. but one thing people forget is freshwater was there when they were crooked as hell with bush and some of the others. they also had two stud qb's that both had assault accusations thrown on them by students on campus. leinart i think was one. i never heard how it ended but i doubt him or ed ever get invited back. but that is just my opinion.

Yeah, he was definitely a mess at USC, and he was a big mess at UT, too. Word is he's chilled out quite a bit but who knows. Glad he's not our problem. Hell of a coach but who needs the drama.

I have zero concerns about this but it's a fair point to bring up until he proves it.

By the way, I don't think he'll prove it to everyone in the 2022 cycle. We'll have a fine class but I don't think we start talking about >= top 7 classes until 2023. After that, I'll expect them consistently and I'll expect us to flirt with top 5 at least every other year. I truly believe that should be our expectation for this program.

Unless I am reading this incorrectly, you are stating that you truly wish the mods would get rid of some posters that are clearly agitated by the hiring of CBH. Am I wrong?

Oh calm down, Dag, you know that's not true about the 90 percent thing. You are just worked up this morning. Don't make it personal. Just trying to understand what you meant by that statement I originally quoted.

The funny thing is, this guy wasn't even referring to the Penn St guys. I was referring to the Auburn posters you were talking about. I see posters here who are clearly Gus Apologist and seem to really dislike the new coach, but I don't agree they should be banned for not agreeing with me. That is only thing I was calling out.

I wasn't referring to the Penn St. guys. I was referring to the mention of banning AU fans because they may not like the hire or because they think we made a mistake by hiring CBH.  Was just trying to get a clear understanding of that statement. I agree if an opposing fan comes in clearly to trash talk and troll, then by all means, get gone. I do not agree with banning AU fans because you do not agree with them which is how I interpreted the op.
