The senior Senator from NJ and his lovely wife have had their cases separated and he will likely blame her for the crimes they committed.

It’s a smart defense, but everyone with a brain knows he’s cartoonishly corrupt.

Schumer and the Democrats should have expelled him from the Senate a long time ago.  If he makes it on to the ballot in Nov he could ensure a Republican win.

It’s one of the safest seats in the country. Ds probably aren’t sweating it.

If Menendez is able to run as an independent it would make the race more interesting.  The good people of NJ will elect the Senator they deserve in any case.

He deserves prison.  Nothing worse than someone that was able to skate by the first time and instead of changing his behavior, he decides to go all in.

Evidence against him seems pretty strong. Hope he gets thrown out of congress and gets the book thrown at him.

Oh there’s no question lol. He’s simply guilty as s***. How he got away with it for so long is laughable.

No, he will be re-elected in a landslide.

He just got thru beating the wrap on the last trial and getting re-elected again. I bet he gets re-elected again this time as well.

He should have run all that money through his PAC before he took possession of it, like Trump does.

Well, Democrats made an attempt to reform campaign financing:

https://www.opensecrets.org/news/2021/01/for-the-people-act-democrats/

".....The bill is supported by a broad coalition of progressive groups under the banner of the Declaration for American Democracy. Its nearly 180 members include People’s Action, MoveOn.org, the League of Conservation Voters and the Service Employees International Union. The Lincoln Project, an anti-Trump super PAC that took $300,000 from dark money group Sixteen Thirty Fund, one of the left’s largest dark money groups, reportedly also supportsthe bill

Despite the enthusiasm from Democrats, Schumer will face an uphill battle to actually pass the bill. In 2019, an earlier version of the bill passed in the House along partisan lines. Not a single Republican voted for the bill, and it was never introduced in the then-majority Republican Senate.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) called that iteration of the bill “a radical half-baked socialist proposal.”....

Well, political grandstanding is a trademark and a tradition of this Congress.

"Grandstanding"??  :-\  It would have passed if Republicans hadn't voted against it.

This problem could be addressed with legislation.  Republicans would rather it not change.

but Booker backs Menedez's son?

https://www.politico.com/news/2024/05/10/booker-backs-younger-menendez-stays-out-of-senate-primary-00157307

Kim won the Democrat nomination.

Menendez says he will run as an Independent after dropping out in March.

The county line voting system was upended by a court decision. (This I was unaware of.)

Maybe Kim can unseat him. But Menendez is still running and still facing charges at the same time.

Name recognition is still huge, AND Menendez still won after his last trial.

https://www.cnn.com/election/2018/results/new-jersey

2018, Menendez was re-elected by 12 points, AFTER basically the same charges were brought against him then.
