Just wondering....when we say bad things about how the football or basketball looks during a bad year, do the players demand apologies? I think we should write them all letters of apology to let them know that as long as you try, you should be rewarded. I personally think all teams should share the national championship. That would only be fair.

Players (scholarship players particularly) also get their tuition, room & board, meals, books, and a crap ton of clothing paid for by scholarships. The band gets to buy a fleece pullover once a year, and maybe gets a gift from whatever bowl we go to.

The majority of people don't recognize the work that the band puts into practice to do what they do. Football players and basketball players are celebrities on campus. Band members, despite putting in a similar amount of time and work, get to go to 1 away game a year.

There's also a bunch of non scholarship athletes that put in that same time and countless other groups on every campus in the world that put in tons of time and effort without getting a pat on the back from anyone outside of their circles. Such is life. I appreciate that being in the band is time consuming and that band members would love to get some praise. However, if the product you are supplying gets negative feedback, maybe it's time to look inward instead of lashing out at ones who don't blindly praise a product they didn't enjoy. It's not a fun lesson to learn, but it's necessary to bring the best out of everyone. It's like the difference between socialism and the free market economy. In socialism, everyone receives the same benefits regardless of output which causes overall quality of products to decline due to lack of motivation. In a free market, failure drives people to succeed, which leads to a country like the USA becoming one of the wealthiest nations in history while being one of the youngest. Knowing how to handle criticism and using it to make yourself better (as is required for success in a free market) will get you ten times farther than attacking someone that doesn't give you a trophy because you tried (socialism).

Sorry for the long rant. I always have appreciated the marching band (I'm a musician myself) and I get the frustration. I don't think anyone here has anything but respect for the band members and just want them to be the best they can be. WDE.

The majority of the people don't recognize the work the owner of this site has done and continues to do to provide this forum many of you frequent daily for free.

And we're not talking about an obviously critical tweet of the band. It was, as many tweets are, one that could be taken the wrong way. That doesn't warrant talking about being ashamed. It warrants simply providing that perspective.

The owner of this site can take his ball and walk away at any time. This is an entertaining free AU site, but there are several more out there that are equally entertaining and also free. There is nothing wrong or shameful by admitting that a tweet, post, etc was made that was not intentionally offensive, but obviously was received that way, in this case, by members of the AUMB who read this board. Just simply apologize and move on.

And I fully expect that you are as consistently negative on all those other free sites as you are on this one.

Your opinion is duly noted.

RIR, thanks for all you do. Sincerely.

We all appreciate the AUMB, as you have clarified on your end, and you have clarified the intent of your post.

Not that my opinion matters, but I suggest saying your final peace, and locking this thread down.

I agree, this is yet another example of this forum turning to **** stop trying to evade the profanity filter. From thread hijacks, useless bickering, tired jokes, etc..., and now criticizing the band because they can't get superstars to entertain us at halftime. This used to be a sight to have good discussions and get useful information, guess I'm starting to sound old and longing for the good old days

The word you were groping for is site. That bit of opportunity for instruction is all I've found to be of any interest in this entire thread.

You make some great personal and relative points here. I am convinced this forum is no longer right for you. We hate to see you go, but it is clearly the best option for all involved. War Eagle! and buh-bye.

Who knew the AUMB/halftime show was such a sensitive topic? One would of thought it was suggested we rename the University, change the school colors, or something of equivalence.

Bring on the orange facemasks!!!

I think every one has had a chance to have their say. And it's obvious nothing else good is going to come from this.

Again, my apologies for a poorly worded tweet. Moving on ...
