The Swiss model has a lot to like about it. Still uses private competitive Insurance plans has some Government Subsidies for basic insurance and if you want more can upgrade your plan.  Some issues that would have to be addressed Switzerland is a very small country so a national Insurance plan is doable as cost difference probably not that great from one area to the other.  The US being so large and having some states where Insurance is much higher than others it would be difficult to have national Plans.  It is something that we should at least look at and see if there are things we can copy.
