Can't believe how we win 12 straight against fire competition only to crash down losing 3 of 4 in postseason

Well, 8 of those 12 wins came against the three worst teams in the conference. Granted, the South Carolina and LSU series wins were still big but we got South Carolina right as they started a 4-11 skid to end the regular season.

It was a little smoke and mirrors propping us up to make us look better than we were. But still, the offense has been the strength of this team all year and that performance was pretty terrible.

The good -- AU fans absolutely showed up and made a lot of noise.   The parking deck was packed as was the outfield.   The weather was perfect for baseball.   The park looked amazing and as always the ground crew had the surface perfect.   Notice the ease with which the infielders fielded every ball.   The Penn players -- perfect execution of the small ball game, 2 perfectly placed bunts, showing common courtesies like grabbing foul tips down the first baseline and not making our ball boy bust his arse to get to them, not arguing calls, not acting insane when they did their  job and having a crazy celebration before gettin g on the bus.   Those kids were super pumped to have come into our house and beat us.    The bad -- we are a streaky good offensive team but not a consistently good offensive team.   In other words, we will go on 10 game streaks where 1-6 can't make an out but then we can go silent.  Cole is exhibit A -- he has always been one of the hottest hitters in baseball when he is hot i.e. see last year's regional but he can also quickly go in a mini slump.   Bobby P is the same way.    Bryson and  Cooper as well but to a somewhat lesser extent.   In our last 3 games we have not been hot.   Ike -- this is our best pure hitter on the team.  He simply refuses to give up at bats regardless of the score.   Last night he struck out twice.   That has probably happened before this year, but none come to mind.   Non=productive at bats.   As most know, not all good or even great at bats end with a hit.   Hitting behind runners and moving them up, sac flies, putting the ball in play are all important parts of the game.   A strikeout does absolutely nothing.   Last night almost half of our outs were strikeouts 14 out of 33 outs.  Our top five went 3 for 23 with 10 ks.  Penn's top 5, 6 for 23 with just 3 ks.  Our leadoff hitter -- Chris Stanfield has lots of talent.   Last night he was 0-6 with 3 k's.   Twice he barreled balls and both were caught -- one could have easily been a 3 run double.    We are not trending well r/n.   Here's to hoping that changes!!!!!!

Did opposing teams figure out our hitting? Or are we just done for this season?

This team just needs something good to happen.  1 big inning to get us jump started.

You would think after all of the SEC pitching we’ve seen this year, we would be hitting this.

Irish has had a fabulous freshmen season, but he needs to stop shaking his head after every call he doesn’t agree with. He’s setting himself up for some rough at bats if the umps get tired of it. The coaches need to address that with him.

I mean, at least we weren't the most embarrassing national seed (thanks #11 OKST), but still plenty embarrassing enough.

Frustrating for sure. But we lost some good pitchers for all or part of the season: Gonzalez, Sheehan, Swilling, Isbell, and Herberholtz. That’s hard to overcome, especially Gonzalez and Sheehan. If anything, Butch has taken this team further than they should be. The lack of hitting in this regional has been tough to watch.

Another embarrassing effort. Obviously the team didn't deserve to be hosting a regional. Absolutely pathetic effort. Butch should be humiliated. Completely outcoached and talented by an Ivy League and Conference USA school. Pitiful

What an uninspiring showing this weekend, clearly were not ready and did not perform as the host of a Regional should. Big time let down but still love the job Butch is doing as a whole.

Someone said CBT was our best HC in all sports?   We’re 0-4 in the last, most impactful games (SEC championship , CWS playoff-series). What am I missing?  I’m not in favor of a HC change, but wtf?  Why can’t we compete?  Are we too young and  everyone is returning next year or are we having to replace half the baseball roster?  No player leadership?  Why the late season surge and the end of season collapse?

I'd argue BP is our best coach in all sports.
