Good story. I remember him well at Auburn and in the pro’s. I believe it was the ‘76 Tennessee game where he set the AU record FG of 57 yards.

I remember him kicking for Auburn.  Our first soccer style kicker.  If memory serves me correctly he was playing soccer for a school in Birmingham maybe Birmingham Southern.  The school gave up soccer so he headed to Auburn.

Great article Tex! Recall Bahr on his Sunday after replay referring to Neil and growling about how he wanted one one those “sidewinder kickers” .

I was in the stands when he hit the 57 yarder. My, my but that was a long time ago!

I was 12 and over at a friends house that day. Had to sneak peeks at the game. I distinctly remember two plays; the FG and a long pass reception by Chris Vacarella.  Seem to recall that Vacarella had a big day vs UT.
