Leon Panetta, whom Obama nominated to be his next defense secretary, is calling key members of Congress to inform them that bin Laden was killed. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, was told bin Laden was killed in Afghanistan and that the United States has his body.

Vice President Biden spread the news of bin Laden's death to congressional leaders, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
