Can a non active player even practice? I've always thought you are limited to 20 walkons

No walk on RB will see meaningful snaps next year

Can see a bunch of them on scout team.

Which aren't meaningful snaps. Sure, they'll practice.

Because we can have both. He's not a drag on any limit. Any AU student can ask to walk on and if approved, get beat up while playing on the practice squad. Walkons aren't on scholarship. They cost nothing.

Yup and lots did not get approved.

Not an issue- a well stocked walk on program builds great team character

A good friend of mine was a walk on for the OL in the 80's.   My gosh he got crushed at practice.  You used to be able to watch some of the practices.... But he did have great character and I believe he was respected by the team for always coming back. He finally skipped his last year to focus on school and ROTC.   He was never going to be the next great walk on that Kevin Greene became (although both were in ROTC with Ruthie B), but walk ons are important.

I enjoyed his insight and perspective on things.

Why is Wise Gordon not listed on the roster anymore on Auburn Football website?

An educated guess: To be on the roster a player has to be issued a number. Just a few walk-ons are issued a number so most walk-ons aren't on the fall rosters.

Shug and Dye had good walk-on programs and many players earned scholarships.  I think Kevin Greene might have initially been a walk-on.  I hope Gordon gets chance if he is physically able and is not risking further injury by playing.  I have all the respect in the world for those guys on the scout team.  Most just get the crap beat out of them and rarely get any recognition.
