2013 3* P Jimmy Hutchinson commits to AU! (grayshirt)

As much as I agree that we NEED great specialist, and realize that Hutchinson has been committed throughout a terrible season without wavering, it also needs to be mentioned that that commitment was to a previous staff and the new regime may just not share the same desire to keep him.

i liked that Chiz used schollies on kickers, but maybe Gus disagrees. Maybe he believes in one scholarship kicker every two years, instead of two, or two scholarship kickers every four years. I don't know. I'm behind the coaches' decision though, whether it will win more games or not is better left to them, and that's all I'm worried about. If we part ways, he will get a full scholarship somewhere else and in a couple of months he will be over this and happy with the outcome.

only other offer is from UCLA per rivals.Bad deal for him if Auburn wants to part ways with him.He seemed really surprised to even been asked if he was still committed.Bad reporting by247 if so.

But how many times do we hear from fans that said recruit committed to the university and not the coach? If Malzahn does not believe in the need for utilizing scholarships for another punter, then do so by not offering scholarships in the future. Do not yank away the dream of a player that was given a promise to believe in.

I'm confused!?! Have we officially pulled a scholly offer or is all this banter just conjecture?

JH and BM posted last night that Hutch and Auburn parted ways but pulled it down before people could really read it. Apparently they jumped the gun on something.

Ellitor, is it your belief that Hutchinson still has an offer?

I am gonna be pretty pissed if the coaches pull this crap. Especially when the guy has been such a standup fellah the whole time. Not to mention he called several other recruits when Chiz and co were fired.

Don't know. Waiting to hear back from 23.

So, do you think maybe the coaches went to him and said "Look, we've got a lot of kids now wanting to sign with Auburn. You come from a family with means, do you think you could walk on for a year and we'd give you the scholarship after that? Or maybe you could wait to turn in your LOI to see who actually signs first?" Pure speculation, of course, but I'm trying to decide how I feel about that scenario. I can see why coaches may want to work that kind of angle, but it just feels pretty cruddy to treat a kid who has done everything right that way...if I were that kid, I'd be pretty mad!

Again, this is TOTAL SPECULATION!!!

I hope they stick with him and he sticks with us!

I really can't speculate any more without knowing more.

A new coaching staff should honor the commitments by these high school kids. Personal wealth of the family is irrelevant. Committed to previous staff is irrelevant. All commitments should be honored unless there is grade or personality issues.

Cutting a kid loose is simply uncool. There is no justification for it.

While I think Hutch should be kept because a quality punter is a quality punter. I disagree with your post. The job of the new staff is to try to get the best players for the systems. We are going to a new offensive and defensive systems that uses different kinds of players. No point in trying to fit square pegs in round holes.

I hope that what ever happened that it is rectified quickly. It will not read right that we pulled the scholly of the previously committed punter this close to signing day. That would piss me off to no end especially if I was asked or helped try to keep the class together. How would that affect future kickers wanting to commit to AU?

from an offensive standpoint, the entire offense are Gus recruits, minus this last years class, which he still was influential in. Defense totally agree.

I'm with you E. You see where trying to run a pro-style offense with guys recruited for the spread got us.

How does the offensive system or defensive system directly affect the special teams? As far as I can see it does not in any way except where they are punting from. The kid is gonna kick the ball however he is used to kicking it no matter where he goes to school. As far as I am concerned the freaking kicker and punter have been out most valuable and consistent players the last two years, which is sad but true. We are going to need a new punter so there is no reason to not keep him. Letting him go would be a big mistake by Gus in my opinion and I do not like how it makes us look to other players.

That is why I said I would keep Hutch.

This doesn't sound good. I hope the kid lands somewhere on scholly, it'd be a real shame if he put all his hopes and dreams into AU and we didn't honor our word and stand by the initial offer regardless if it was made by the previous staff or not. The kid stood by his word even through the instabiltiy and a coaching change.

Does anyone know for sure what is happening with this? I read the tweets that were not specific, read the posts which seem to be much more speculation and assumptions. I am going to hold my opinion on this until something concrete is put out there.

Couldn't agree more! On the flip side, we're obviously behind the 8ball; so whatever is best for the program.

You are probably right '97 - best to just wait & see something more concrete than internets rumors and tweets, etc.

There are still a couple of weeks left til NSD, anything could happen between now and 2/6.

Guys, relax!! He is still committed or should I say recommitted. If he does decommit or his scholly is pulled then you can panic. To me it looks like he may have gotten some bad info and was reassured by the coaches.

Or 247 and Rivals got some bad info and briefly confused everyone including him.

I'm going to choose to believe that the coaches were told to call Hutcherson, the TE, and tell him "no thanks", but someone goofed and called Hutchinson, the kicker. Probably Tim Jackson's fault. ;)
