Preparing for LSU

Been reading some of the recommendations above and came to the conclusion that it makes no sense for AU to continue paying these huge salaries to Gus and his minions when we could just as easily pick six experts from the board and turn them loose on the SEC.

Several of the posters above obviously have more insight into game strategy than our coaches. And just from watching a couple games on TV and reading some Rivals ratings, these prescient people are able to tell us which players should be starting and even what positions they should be playing. One thing for certain, they are not going to be misled by how any of the kids have actually done in practice....which everyone from Allen Iverson on down knows is totally unimportant. We are making this game much too complicated.

Top 2 items

1) OL play - OL guys have some experience & need to step up. LSU's weakest DLman will be better than WSU/ASU/MSU's best

2) DL play -Zero QB pressure ! Can't let LSU drive the field and limit them to 3 points per drive.

I expect to see trick plays, on side kick, fake punt, etc. to ATTEMPT to keep us in the game with a chance to win in the 4th QTR. We are not mentally or physically prepared for SEC smash mouth FB with the better SEC teams. Miles has no problem rolling the dice and has the luck of the Irish when doing it. Gus needs to be prepared to out trick the Hat at his own game. I truly hope it is a new day and a new cigar game !

War Damn Eagle !

1st off, Ppl bashing NM must still have a Cam Newton hangover. We'll never have another one like him. Also, NM is a major upgrade from last year. Ppl seem to forget that. Finally, lsu's defense isn't as good as usual. Should be an interesting game.

For those with a Cam-hangover, remember that we only won the MSU game 17-14, and didn't look very good doing it. By the third game of the season, we were still finding out who Cam was, and he was still learning the offense even after being on campus much longer than NM. I'm not arguing that Nick is another Cam (there will probably never be another Cam), but it's too early to assume he'll be another Clint Mosely, either.

1- Offensive line exploding off and creating space

2- Linebackers filling the gaps

Bonus- Have Rocker dial up Benji Roland, Ron Stallworth and the boys for a reunion tour....or just play the heck out of the Freshmen and let'em roll. :)

Teach Marshall how to hit a wide open receiver.

Tell Ellis Johnson it is okay to play man and blitz before the fourth quarter!

Marshall is fine. You are not going to hit a 60 yard pass every time. If you can get to a 50% ratio, you are a PRO level.

When the WR is 20 yards behind the defense, there is no excuse. He could underthrow the ball and let the WR wait on it. So far, he is 1 out of 5 on these plays, with Wallace missing the other play. When points come at a premium, you have to hit those throws.

Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

It must not be too obvious for some...

Just for those who have never watched a football game

Marshall just needs a little work on his touch. Teach the wide receiver to catch the dang ball

Nm's performance through the first 2 games would look a lot better if the receivers would have held onto the ball.

Tired of hearing six weeks? It's the truth. JUCO was like glorified high school where he used raw ability to make plays and not much else. This is a different world. You can use that ability to make a play when things break down but you cannot make a living off it.

They have broken him down and are trying to get rid of those bad habits, and they are now building him back up.

Keep in mind, over those six weeks or so he was also in a QB battle so he wasn't even getting all the reps.

Does anyone on here see Kenny Flowers or Brandon King seeing action anytime soon? I really thought this off season those two were being brought in for a reason, and as far as I know they haven't seen much if any action.

Underneath throws to the RBs & TEs.

IMHO we only win this game with:

> LSU turning the ball over a lot, our capitalizing off their turnovers and our special teams being crazy good

> or, our O is flawless and the Hat has one of his occasional brain dead coaching days

> or, 3 or 4 guys on our D all have career days and we don't turn the ball over on O

1. Defense. Have to learn not to allow short passing game to beat you. Playing close to receivers, tight ends, and RBs out of the backfield. Linebacker drills to cover TEs and RBs out of backfield.

2. Defense. Have to learn to contain QBs from running for 100 yards per game.

3. Defense. Pressure the QBs from the front 4. Pressure.

4. Defense. When to time blitzes

5. Defense. Getting off the field on third downs.

6. Offense. O-Line has to learn to deal with 4-7 man rush and blocking assignments.

7. Offense. Receivers have to make catches

8. Offense. Nick Marshall and receivers work on timing and short passing game.

9. Offense. Using Grant, Mason, and Prosch as receivers out of the backfield.

10. Giving Marshall more freedom to use his instincts and experience.

11. Offense. RBs learning to deal with ball strip motions from defensive players.

I don't think you covered everything... :-\

yes, RBs hitting the hole or finding backside holes they were there during MSU, it appears they were searching for the home run and that didn't happen and i know they need to be patient but there were some big opportunities backside as MSU was over pursuing, even if it was for 3-5 yards that would have been better then a lose or no yards. Just an observation.

Fans that understand Nick Marshall has only been with the team 6 weeks, and probably doesn't even have the entire playbook memorized yet, let alone ready to lead us to a championship this season.
