Despite his cheating recruiting tactics, he still was not winning at a GREAT level. He's a mediocre coach who cheat recruited some good players.

Plus he is toxic -- like him or not, he got the SEC and NCAA pizzzzzzed off by Lying to them. Even if they "allow" Freeze to coach again in the SEC, Auburn will ALWAYS be under scrutiny from the SEC and the NCAA. It's bad ernough with Pearl. Multiply that by 100% for Freeze.

Bruce Pearl did similar things but you are good with him though? Not a knock on CBP,  I am a HUGE fan of his but just because you made mistakes doesn't mean you can't learn from them and get better... I'd rather get the Lane train TBH but we will soon see who replaced CGM. I only hope it's not a JABA hire.....AD Greene needs a home run right about now!

Freeze would be an uncharacteristic hire for Auburn, and I don't think it's likely.  Bobby Petrino of the 2020 search.

Makes more sense to go with Cristobal, Napier, or Elliot IMO.  Cleaner, higher potential upside for all three (though less proven at SEC level), and less looming NCAA scrutiny.  Hugh would be a modest coaching upgrade at a time when we need to be willing to aim higher.

He hasn't been mediocre at Liberty. He was very successful at Ole Miss, especially given their history.

He also wouldn't have to cheat to get studs to AU. To get those players to Ole Miss, he had to chest.

The whole escort thing is my biggest red flag. I'd still be happy if we hired him, but I'm most uneasy with this, not the cheating.

A lot of people have mentioned he was basically the fall guy for some dirty boosters at ole miss. He’s a fantastic coach and would make the most sense IMO.

Because I don't trust those making the decisions to bring home the goods. 

I expect them find a spectacular or moronic way to botch this hire and, as a result, end up with tapping Steele for the job.

In fairness, I was surprised they pulled the trigger on Gus, but that move might have used up what little sense these clowns had saved up.

I am not a win at all cost type of a person, but, we have got to get away from being scared!! of everything, their is no buggy man, this man has kept himself out of the lime life. In another thread, a recording of a Finebaum interview explained the mention of Steele.  They are not saying Steele is the likely selection.  But Steele would be the least expensive option.  And when you consider how much it is costing to get rid of Gus...they may be motivated to save some cash and put a larger investment into the Offensive and Defensive coordinators.

Again...they are not saying this is what Auburn is likely to do.  But it is an outlier option.

There's something about Freeze leaving OM with a 2 yr bowl ban and the loss of 32 scholly's over a 4 yr period that make me shy away from him.  Those sanctions just ended this month and they are still crippling OM and will for years to come.  I'm not weighing the hooker debacle, just the terrible situation he left OM in when they canned him. ouch

Boosters had nothing to do with him having sex workers on speed dial. He betrayed his family and his team with that kind of behavior . He's not a fantastic  anything.

I say we embrace the bad boy image, hire Briles or Kiffen an give anyone and everyone who complains the finger.
