Farm Program Pays $1.3 Billion to People Who Don't Farm

By Dan Morgan, Gilbert M. Gaul and Sarah Cohen

The Washington Post

Sunday 02 July 2006

El Campo, Texas - Even though Donald R. Matthews put his sprawling new residence in the heart of rice country, he is no farmer. He is a 67-year-old asphalt contractor who wanted to build a dream house for his wife of 40 years.

Yet under a federal agriculture program approved by Congress, his 18-acre suburban lot receives about $1,300 in annual "direct payments," because years ago the land was used to grow rice.

Just more ways the Fed govt screws us blind. This is now a known and accepted way for celebs to make scads of cash.

Sam Donaldson gets $900KAY! a year to not raise goats on his NM ranch. He keeps buyiong old goat ranches and making even more money. What exactly is the subsidy?

Mohair is wool made from goat hair. Despite these programs, wool and mohair production declined.

I'm not surprised at all. For the four years I lived in Texas, NOT ONCE did I see corn farmers harvesting their crop at the end of the year. What did I see instead? One of two things: 1) they either plowed it under -or- 2) let the corn die and turn brown then they set the b*tch on fire. I asked a couple of locals once why they did this and the answer was the government paid them more to NOT harvest and sell. They made more destroying their crop then they did by selling it. Amazing.

Yes. But many times plowing it under creates a more fertile section of soil for future use. There is a method to their madness. But I do feel it has gone a little overboard. There needs to be more accountability. As is the case with most federal monies.

The only way to save our Republic is to shutdown the Federal Reserve System, PERIOD. Have every congressman (and congresswoman) sign an affidavit saying they'll vote to shut it down. Democrat, Republican it doesn't matter. Sign the DAMN affidavit so we'll know who to vote for...

I know but I have this aching in my gut that simply won't go away no matter what I do. Something has gotta give, and I guess it'll be me. Hopefully, it will be the Federal Reserve Note instead.

Let me get this straight. The Federal Reserve is not a government agency, with no oversight. The IRS illegally collects income taxes, gives them to the US Treasury who in turn reissues (with interest) the currency through the banking system (with more interest) back to the individuals who did, or did not, pay those same taxes. That doesn't make any damn sense to me. Why are paying income taxes again? Because they tell us to? That's extortion, especially since it's unconstitutional.

That comes out to just over $ 100 per month. Wow! That's gonna bankrupt the country!!!

That bit of sarcasm is just an example of how some folks see tiny increases in tax rates or payments here and there. Individually, it doesn't sound impressive, but add it all up, that's real money you're talking about .

You're right.

Multiply that times the number of cases and total. Waste doesn't stop there, this is just one example of the lack of fiscal restraint within the gubermint.
