Woody Working to Start

DeShaun Watson played rather extensively as a freshman, he turned out alright. If he's the best QB, let him take his licks and learn from it.

He was also much more developed as a passer out of high school than Woody is. Woody can develop into a passer but right now he is very, very, raw.

I don't know exactly how raw he is, but just to play the devil's advocate, NM was super raw as a passer. The difference for Nick was his mind. That dude was chilly calm on the field, which I wouldn't expect from a true freshman.

Nick was a better passer in High School than many realize. He was not Deshaun developed as a passer but he was good.. On Woody I will say I am very encouraged that he has shown so much potential after playing QB for only 1 year.

He was pretty raw when he got to Auburn E. He was still pretty raw when he left.

I had no idea Woody has only played for one year. Just his senior season? If so I'd say he is well ahead of the curve as far as development goes. Imagine where he will be in one more year.

I did not say nor imply Nick was not raw. Just said he was a better passer in high school than he got credit for. I will say he was less raw out of high school than Woody is.

Right. My point is more or less that a lesser developed passer can have immense success in Gus' system. As for Woody, I haven't watched any full game tape on him, so I don't really have a good idea of how well developed of a passer he actually is. He certainly has the arm strength.

Is it true what you said that Woody only has one year of experience at QB, his senior season?

I amended on another post here or in another thread. I was still in recruiting mindset. Senior year was his 2nd year playing QB. He either did not play QB his soph year or football but there are many reports out there that his Junior year was his 1st at QB.

Still incredible. That explains a lot of what people are saying about him,

I've saw Woody play multiple times last year. He played in one of the toughest football districts in Fl. but he has a lot and I mean a lot to learn about reading defenses and proper footwork for passing. He had a great receiver in Eddie McDoom who he could depend on to make great plays. Woody needs to red shirt a year and lets see what happens after that. On the plus side for Woody is great kid, works hard, very determined, coachable, physically gifted, meaning he has all the tools to be a really good QB. JMO

I'm amazed at what he looks like after only two seasons at the position. He still reminds me of Tajh Boyd. I'm really looking forward to seeing what he turns in to.

Asked this question too. All info I've found on woody has him at QB two seasons.

If its true he was QB only one year then I'm inclined to believe he is a fast learner and that bodes well for him atleast getting a shot this season.

I replied to you yesterday cruiser. Link

Also Woody showed enough potential after his Jr year that 247, ESPN, & Scout had him a 4* before his Sr season.

Sorry Ellitor. I guess I skipped over your response yesterday. Thanks for clearing that up.

What are the chances he'll be ready to go next year? I need something--anything!--to get me excited about QB play in the present or future.

Well don't look for that optimism in this question, Golf has seen Woody the past 2 years & gave his eval.

Watch Sean's highlight reel... if that doesn't give you a spark of excitement then all hope is lost.

Yeah Golf's eval of Woody is encouraging. Though I did read a Gridironnow article that said that while the scout in this article develops a much more favorable eval of Woody throughout the game, the initial comparison to KF is cringe-worthy:

My point was if your optimism for next season is Woody then you might want to look elsewhere. If he is not RSing in 2016 then we are in bigger trouble at QB then most of us truly realize.

Here is another good video about Woody. There are a few highlights but it's oriented more towards Woody's thoughts about Auburn and what his HS coach thinks about Woody. Some good stuff.

By next year I meant '17. He definitely needs an RS or at least backup year. But I hope he's ready AFTER this year (meaning '16).

Any word on whether he's procured a QB coach for the Summer? I'd love to hear, come Fall, that he already had refined his mechanics.

I know he'll likely red shirt, but I'd love to see him get mop-up duty this year, so he has the potential to start next year. Gus has proven that he hates to start someone with no game experience.

Gus does not allow outside qb coaching.......

Gus does not have control over that until the QB is on campus. Sean had an outside QB coach before he enrolled.

Why would you want him to burn a red-shirt for mop-up? Has everyone forgotten Queen? Or is everyone just writing him off due to injury?

W/ his raw gifts it's possible.

Sean already had long standing relationships with those coaches and there has never been reports that Sean worked w/ them after his HS senior season after he signed his NLI. Unless Gus has softened his stance I don't think he would be happy w/ a signed QB getting QB coaching from a "specialist" right before he enrolls @ AU.

I get that Gus is apparently stubborn, but it would be pretty stupid to be upset with a kid who you can't currently work with getting as much help as he can to get ready to come in.

In Gus's eyes the coaching could create habits & thinking he does not want in his QBs. I'm not say it's right. Just saying that's how Gus sees it.

I thought Cam worked with a coach in the summer or sometime outside of AU ?

Nope. He was a January enrollee. He came to AU 10 days after he committed.

I know, but seems like I remember hearing bout some coach working with him. Like after JUCO or in the summer

He didn't work with George Whitfield until after he graduated.
