Auburn completes flip of 4-star safety Sylvester Smith from Tennessee

It's another Freeze Flip for Auburn.

On Saturday morning, 4-star safety Sylvester Smith arrived at Auburn for an unofficial visit as a Tennessee commit. By Saturday night, he had backed off that commitment. By Sunday, he was on Auburn's commit list.

"I'm home," he told Auburn Undercover.

In the industry-generated 247Sports Composite, Smith is the No. 222 overall player, No. 17 safety and the No. 16 player in the state of Alabama. 247Sports also ranks Smith as a 4-star, checking in as the No. 21 safety and No. 17 player in the state.

Commit No. 14 overall for Auburn, Smith is Auburn's third-highest-rated commit behind running back Jeremiah Cobb and defensive lineman Darron Reed.

Since dating back to last December, Smith has had strong interest. It was the spot he was looking to land at, but Auburn wasn't ready to take him. With Zac Etheridge still around and Auburn's new staff in place around him, Smith expressed interest in Auburn again. This time, Auburn expressed it back.

Dating back to Wesley McGriff's time at Florida, he's recruited Smith and that was a big factor, he told Auburn Undercover.

Both Coach Crime and Etheridge were able to land his commitment.

Smith is Auburn's fourth defensive back commit, joining 4-star safety Terrance Love and 3-star cornerbacks Colton Hood and JC Hart. While Love is considered more of a strong safety or even potentially a move down to linebacker, Smith is listed at 5-foot-11, 195 pounds, and projects as a free safety for Auburn.

After flipping Tyler Johnson from Texas Tech, Hood from Michigan State and Connor Lew from Miami, he's now the fourth commitment for Hugh Freeze at Auburn, all of which have happened to be flipped.

With just three more days to National Signing Day on Dec. 21, Smith kickstarts what's set to be a wild week for Auburn.

I have never felt at any point that James or Qua were coming to Auburn.

Maybe Leary at quarterback if we really can’t get academics right with McCall

I don’t think there’s any question about that. It’s amazing what a little positive momentum combined with someone who knows how to utilize it can do.

Glad to have him aboard. He’s a big physical safety and he grew up an Auburn fan. He should’ve been committed to us from the beginning but better late than never

I dont understand why Smith and Russaw keep coming back to visit.  Both have been to more AU Games than Bama games
