My main issue is that I think it would be too easy to recruit against Petrino...negative recruiting is often very effective. With his past issues he would get crushed and we would be left with the scraps

Sorry, I don't buy that for a second. You're talking about a lot of players who come from single parent homes already. They don't expect pristine men to be recruiting their son. They do want to know their son's talent isn't going to be squandered with poor coaching and lack of discipline.

Plus, time heals all wounds. If he can stay out of trouble for a couple of years, win some big games, and put a few guys in the NFL, don't you think folks will stop talking about that stuff? They'll start to sound silly after a while if they're all like "I know Auburn's a top ten program that puts four or five guys in the NFL every year, but the coach had an affair one time."

Key word you used time heals all wounds, which is probably the most realistic way to view this hire......I believe that regardless of the family dynamic BP will have a long way to go with re-earning the trust of many, but over time no doubt he can do that. Just because so many here are willing to forgive him so quickly does not mean others will, especially parents whether they are single or not. He will being preaching his redemption song amongst the roughest toughest recruiters in the nation - it ain't gonna be pretty for him intially, but like you said after some wins and draft picks....that mountain will be come easier to climb.

I was just told by a realtor in the lake Martin area that BP is starting to house shop. Now wether or not he is just looking to see what is available just in case or it he is the next coach I have no clue.

I work at BRHS, have a realtor friend as well. I heard this info as well but dismissed it as friend of a friend of a friend gossip. But with enough smoke there is some fire.

If this is true, and I'm certainly not saying it is or isn't, why wait on announcing it? Is it just for the show of a 'search'? And that begs the question that they just flat out used Sullivan and Jackson as PR shields. I'd be more than a little miffed if I was either of them.

I said this all along about Bo and Pat. Who would vote against true Auburn men?? That's how they would twist it.

Once freed from this moralistic morass, it will remain that Petrino is an offensive mastermind who has proven to run a tight, clean program suffused with discipline - and he's had a season off do his penance, regroup, focus, and study the game of football which will engender even more fricking awesomeness. That was meant to be a sarcastic post. However, Tiger struggled for a while after his life blew up on him. Sometimes guys lose their swagger when they get outed. I still think Petrino will be the guy Auburn hires based on the lackluster list of candidates we've seen so far (Patterson excluded).
