Nothing is funnier than people discounting Jeff Grimes because he's never been a HC, yet pining that we should've hired Kirby. "Oh but he was tutored by the GOAT!" That is true, but at the time it could've been argued he only looked good because he was being propped up by Saban.

Also, look how bad UAT’s defense has been since he left. Smart was the catalyst for their dynasty by having a dominant defense in the beginning of their title runs. He also locked down UGA and now UAT isn’t any where near as dominant in recruiting because Smart is now the coach there. I really seriously doubt Grimes will be able to lock down Alabama when he is hired and have top 3 classes every year and compete for championships every year, but that’s jut me…

There's no reason to think that Sanders will do those things either. You are hoping he can, but there's no reason to think he can. My personal pick is looking more and more like Dell McGee. He's got just as much creds as some of the others who are being mentioned and he's an Auburn man.

You don’t get my point. At the time (2012), none of this was a guarantee. There was every reason to believe that he was simply being propped up by Saban and could fall flat when forced to run a program on his own.

No there was reason to believe Smart was capable. It’s called having football IQ. He was literally Saban’s right hand man. He was also his ace recruiter. If you didn’t see that Kirby was going to be a great coach than I don’t know what to tell you. Kind of like it was obvious that Lincoln Riley was going to be a successful coach as well…

Interesting that the whole time Kirby was at Bama, all the defensive credit went to Saban. Kirby was lauded as a great recruiter, but Saban was lauded as the defensive brain behind the defense prowess.

Put McGee's resume beside that of Sanders and Dell wins, hands down. The only thing Sanders has over McGee is flash and jingles.

While I've started to understand the concerns about Dell, he is by all accounts Kirby's right hand man--which 101 is arguing was why we should've hired Kirby.

Has their defense gone down since he left , or has football continued to evolve into an offensive based game? Also, Kirby is recruiting like a fiend. But he hasn’t locked down Georgia. This year they only have a couple of commits from the states Top 25. Schools like UAT, Clemson, and OSU are doing great there. Finally, no AU coach is going to lock down the state of Alabama in recruiting. Or Georgia. We don’t have to. We need a guy like Grimes with strong recruiting history from the east coast from his time at Va Tech, to the Deep South from his time at AU and LSU, and from Texas from his time at LSU and Baylor. Get 4 or 5 top shelf recruits from 6 or 7 states and we can compete with anyone.

Are you seriously thinking Dell is Smart’s right hand man? Geez, don’t know what to think about that. And go look at UGA people say about Dell, not very flattering whatsoever. Also, there is a reason he’s never been more than just a position coach throughout all of these years. Do your research before making these asinine comments. Deion is wayyy more accomplished than Dell and would blow Dell out of the water if he was at a power 5 program…

They have pretty much locked the state down for the past few years, this year being the exception. What I’m saying is in order to recruit against them we need someone that has the clout to overcome Auburn’s perception. Grimes won’t be able to do that and it will take him 2-3 years before recruits start believing he can win. Deion brings immediate attention to said recruits and would have an immediate impact. Grimes is an unknown just like any other coordinator out there. Again, if Grimes was just this unbelievable can’t miss coach, why has he never been a head coach with over 25+ years of coaching? I’m still waiting on people to answer this question and you all who want Grimes have never given me answer…
