Justin Fields. Probaly will be the Ohio State Starter this season.

Yes sir. That's the one. Knew it was Justin something. That was a real kick in the nuts. Glad he's gone.

Yeah. Probably worse than the kid who just went there and immediately left whose name I can't remember for some reason.

J. Fields I assume is who you mean but Brock grew up all AU which justs pisses me off about losing him. Don't blame him for going to OU smart move for his future growth at QB

Yet another kid that either grew up an Auburn fan or Cam Newton Fan that we couldn’t land. That’s 3 generational type QB’s that we missed

Deshaun Watson

Justin Fields

Brock Vandagriff

Missing on Watson (among other QBs we whiffed on that would of been huge for us) is what sent us in to a QB tailspin after Nick and until Stidham in 2017. Tahj Boyd was a really good college QB and put up great numbers and got them to BCS bowl games and 10 win seasons every year he was a starter but Deshaun Watson is what catapulted them in to the college football elite. He was a transcendent college QB. And now look at them. They got a prodigy in Trevor Lawrence and are a budding dynasty with no signs whatsoever of slowing down. They are just getting stronger as a program. And we are in a holding pattern of mediocrity.

And they had a very good "off" year with Kelly Bryant starting.

YES! That is how you know you have made it. Still got to 10 win seasons in Watsons freshmen year when he only started 8 games because he partially tore his ACL and then the Kelly Bryant year when they casually made the playoffs! lol. That is what I call pulling a Saban. Still having big seasons with only average to solid QB play.

After the pounding that Clemson gave Bama last year they're fortunate Harvey Updyke is being forced to lay low. He might have gone after their lucky rock. Not that luck has a thing to do with their success. But then again our trees didn't have anything to do with the Camback either.

Exactly. They've got machines going. Oklahoma does, too, unless they prove otherwise. (My money is on them having the best rushing offense in the country this year.)

I agree with that. With that OL and those stud RBs not to mention Hurts legs you are spot the heck on Loofy.

Naw, Clemson already took care of that themselves with one of their own! Eventually found guilty of malicious damage to property.

Still have time possibly, right? Say Lincoln Riley heads to the NFL next year, Gus gets canned this year. Maybe he will like our new coach, and not want to move to Oklahoma if Riley isn't there.

Well, I've got to say, the hypotheticals upon which your premise rests aren't all that unlikely.

Two football seasons will have been played before he can sign anywhere. Things will change everywhere by December of 2020. Maybe he goes to OU, maybe not but it's a long way from settled.

You guys are funny....  So upset over a kid who is not even a JR in high school yet.  Complaining we are missing a "generational" player.  We are solid at QB for at least 3 years.  Let's wish this kid well and see what we can get in another year or so.  Or next "generation" as the years may fall

First off, long way to go before he can sign anywhere. I have a feeling he'll be at Auburn games this fall.

Second, calling Justin Fields a "generational" QB is a joke, right? That wasn't serious was it? He couldn't beat out Jake Fromm. Fromm is great. GREAT. But he's not a generational QB by any definition. And Fromm > Fields. So if Justin Fields is a generational QB, that's the least talented generation in the history of the sport. I'm sure he's going to be very good this year at OSU. He might even be as good as JT Barrett, but he's not going to be better than Trevor Lawrence. You know, the guy in his signing class who actually happens to be a generational-type of talent.

Vandagriff is making a wise move to sign up with a great program for a good, young coach. He's secure now. But let's not pretend Auburn or anyone else is going to stop recruiting him over the next two years.

Don’t forget the anemic defenses in the big 12 to add to his point.

Still two other layers of unlikeliness likely needed though. Something will probably have to happen with Mullen at Florida and Smart at Georgia Before Auburn becames the number one option.

He’s the number one quarterback  and overall recruit in his class & two years removed from Bo Nic’s class. Auburn fans have every right to be upset about missing out on a legacy like him. 2021 is the year we need to have another big-time quarterback lined up. If we did even a half decent job of developing our quarterbacks getting him would’ve been a layup.  Also, it takes a lot to piss off Golf. When he gets pissed about something Auburn related it’s a good sign the rest of us should be upset or annoyed as well.

"generational QBs" have been transferring all over the place the last four or five years when they could not crack the line-up at their chosen school.   As for Golf....not always....he can be pretty picky sometimes.

But meanwhile,  odds are pretty good that the guy will sign other than Oklahoma. If he looks at their current crop of QBs.….plus their tendency to grab transfers.   He will arriving at OU with a soph QB running the offense.   Sooner or later the guy will realize that signing with OU likely means riding the bench two or three years....and therefore is just the first step toward finding a starting job somewhere else.   JMO

High rated or even 5* QBs aren't potential generational QBs. Unanomous #1 overall recruits that are QBs are potentially. In the last 4 or 5 years there's only been one generation QB recruit. Trevor Lawrence & he's off to a damn good start.

Picky is not the same as pissed off.

No it's not. 90% of commits end up signing with the school they initially commit to. Now whether they remain there is a different story.

Trend may not continue with Riley landing better potential QBs than Stoops had been doing from high school ranks.

The likely starter, Spencer Rattler, will be a JR when BVG would get there. Rattler may only use 1 more year at OU while BVG is there. Or if Rattler struggles BVG could come in & battle to win the job as a freshman. Very talented underclassmen QB have beaten out many a upper classmen QBs who were highly rated out of high school over the years.

FTR I'm not saying or implying BVG is a generational QB.
