SO i am guessing he'll play one of the DT spots on either side of the NT? Is DT the correct term to use for that position in the 3-4? The guys who are on either side of the nose tackle

I'll take the '3 star' who stood out at Kansas, versus anyone who went there and disappeared, regardless of their rating.

Yeah, agree.  Kids get overlooked for whatever reason.  He performed pretty well during decent teams for a RSFR.

He'll come here as a 3rd year player, but will technically be a RS Soph with 4 years of eligibility.  I'll be interested to see how covid years work out with kids.

From all the post spring DC on 247/Rivals/AL.com they list a DE/DT/DT/Edge.  So I guess he could play one of the DE spots on passing downs and DE on run downs.

Seems like it could have a variety of looks.

I think Fair is a solid starter b/c we really don't have a NT.

I don't think we're that shallow on the DL and it'll be interested to see how the rotation shakes out.  Harris seems like a Marlon Davidson type who can play but the end and inside on passing downs.  SDE we have both Wooten and Zykeivous Walker.  Walker can slide inside.  Walker is pretty similar to Harris.

Fair/Burks/Truesdall/Walker/Harris/Hunter/Pegues.  That's a pretty good rotation at the two tackle spots with a ton of flexibility based on downs/opponents

And don't forget Dre Butler at DT too. So lots of options.

I have read he is anywhere from 280 to 295, from his initial weight of 250 when signed. He seems like he can be that end as a true 3 in a 3/4 or he even said he has been told he will slide some inside as a DT...

Usually, 3-4 teams refer to their 4-Techs as DEs, but some call one a DE and the other a DT, more like 4-3 team terminology. I think this is because they run multiple defenses that shift people around. At Vandy Mason listed a DE and two DTs as his line. Kirby Smart at UGA lists a DE, an NT, and a DT.

I don't know what terminology Auburn is going to use, but I expect Harris will be listed as a DE.

1. I LOVE kablooey.

2. I will never say it.

The problem is when I read it....it gets stuck in my head (which my internal thoughts are audible phrases of my own voice. This has sent me down a path of critical thinking and trying to understand how someone who was born deaf and blind thinks, but that's another topic). 😆

edit- added a smiley face so Toddc doesn't get his panties riled up.

Aw Todd, Don't get all in your feelings. I meant that in a joking manner since you and I have debated the term Kablooey from the very beginning. I apologize for not using an emoticon to show my context.

But can he play OT?

Why do you ask? Do you think we're thin on the OL?

We have pretty good depth on the OL. The problem is not many are good and the good ones don't play outside

What’s the long snapper status?  That’s really my only concern on the Oline

Great pickup. We started out with a good D-Line bit not enough depth we picked up some solid Freshman Brooks and Hunter both who I thing will see PT this year. Robinson and Okoli who I think will need at least 1 year to develop. Then we have added 3 very good players through Transfer Portal Fair, Leota, Harris.  I know we lost some also but to be honest while the ones we lost seem to be very talented they had not produces on the field.  Leota has very solid numbers when you consider he was a specialist as a pass rusher who didn't get that many snaps Harris also shows he can pass rush which was a big weakness last year.  Fair I am not sure about from what I have read he has the size. strength, and explosiveness to be a very good player but some are saying he doesn't put out maximum effort.  Even with the players who left with the final addition of Harris to D-Line I would say D-Line would be our strength except I think both DB's and LB's are even better that the D-Line.  One thing I like about the Mason defense is it shows multiple different looks and rushers coming from different positions often confusing O-Line blocking. I think this D-Line can hold the edge, rush the passer and swarm to interior especially if one of our interior D-linemen can hold his own against a double team.

This staff is using all its tools in strengthening this team on the D side now lets get some help on the O side.

So with the new transfer rule - what’s to stop some one like Saban and the money bags boosters he has going to a small school and saying….look I am going to send players your way for a year, and my boosters are going to donate a lot of money to your football program to updated your facilities.. I am even going to recommend some up and coming coaches for you. I want you to take the players I recommend and teach them in practice, play them in 4 games their first year to redshirt them. If I need them then I will let you know and they will transfer and my booster will donate. But if they need another year or two I will let you know. Don’t worry about recruiting them me and my coaches will take care of that.  You will be my farm system. Technically that is all legal, because the NCAA can’t stop boosters from donating and kids signing with schools.

What's to stop us or any other power program from doing the same thing?

As long as the rules are the same for everyone, then I have no complaints. The schools with more money can already afford better coaches, better facilities, etc.
