Mark My Words 2006

For the last two years, prior to the season's kickoff DaddyBoyAU has started a thread entitled "Mark My Words". I am a huge fan of these threads, and especially like to take a look back at the previous year's bold predictions and see exactly how prophetic I am. For example, here is my post in last year's thread:

Mark My Word:

Brandon Cox will be a household name across America by the end of the season.

Brodie Croyle will be out for the season by Bama's 5th game. (Not wishing ill will on Brodie, simply a prediction)

Bama will beat Middle Tennessee State University on September 3, and immediately after the victory the Bama Nation will proclaim that "they're back". Somewhere a UAT fan will book a hotel California for the weekend of the Rose Bowl.

I was a few weeks early in my prediction, but I will claim it.

Here is my prediction for 2004, once again, right on the money:

MARK MY WORD...

Jason Campbell will finally play up to his potential and pass for 2500+ yards. I can feel it!

Now, here are the rules, as posted by DaddyBoyAU:

1) Make a bold prediction. None of this "Auburn will beat Ball State this year" - that's wimpy. This is about making a chancy prediction - something you may have a "feeling" about, but most people would not go along with.

2) Predictions only! If you disagree with someone's "Mark My Word" and want to discuss it, start a new thread. No flaming unless someone makes a wimpy prediction (see rule number 1).

3) Not just limited to games - could be about coaching situations, AUNation members, Touchdown Auburn Bowl, etc.

4) And importantly, somewhere in your prediction, you've got to say "Mark My Word" - because you're sure that its going to happen.

It'll be fun to look back at the end of the season to see which ones came true.

Ok, now that you know what to do, let's get it started.

MARK MY WORD -

- Brandon Cox will lead the SEC in Passing Efficiency

- Kenny Irons will finish 2nd in the Heisman race

- Auburn will have the #1 Offense and #1 Defense in the SEC

- Bama will be overly confident after a 4-0 start, and the media will be lapping up the tahd once again. The next week, they will have a mudhole stomped in them by

- Juwan Simpson will play in every game in 2006

The UGA fans will be screaming for the Backup QB After they get beat by South Carolina

Coach Meyer will be crying a whole lot more this season when he finds out his scheme doesn’t work in the SEC

South Carolina will represent the East in the SEC Championship and will lose for the second time to Auburn

By the end of the Season Ole Miss will be under investigation by the NCAA, which will be followed by the firing of head coach Orgeron.

Georgia Tech will beat Notre Dame, BUT Brady Quinn still wins the Heisman, followed by Peterson. Kenny Irons will only be a mention because he and Lester will be sharing the load all year (no lofty numbers).

Although, you've earned the right - even though I started this, my "Mark my word" predictions have never come true (2004 I said VA Tech would beat USC, 2005 I stated that Tenn would lose the first two SEC games and go undefeated afterward). You're on a streak - glad you got the thread started.

With that being said...

Mark My Word: Tennessee will upset Cal.

Mark My Word: Arkansas beats Alabama with a Mustain lead offense.

will be exposed as the same ole Lamecocks they've always been. Last year, a couple of wins over some overrated teams got everyone pumped about Steve Superior. But, when they played anyone with talent or who was playing well...it was a beat bown.

Uuhhh, I guess I have nothing here. The name speaks for itself.

If they lose to again, there's going to be more than a little grumbling going down in Athens about Richt. Great coach, but enough is enough.

Bama will lose to Hawaii in overtime.

Will struggle for a low level bowl.

Won't live up to the hype, losing to Bama, Auburn, and UGA. They'll grasp a close victory over SC.

Will contend heavily for the SEC East Crown.

Will go 9-3 at best in the regular season. Watch out for WSU. Okay, maybe not the WSU part.
