helfrick was a disaster after chip left and the talent chip had developed left. His offense and style would be totally different than the talent we have recruited for. Also he has been in the pac 12 where defense is optional. Bring on chip lindsey!!

Hate to break it to you but Chip Lindsey is in the Pac 12... where defense is optional.

From what I've read, and my knowledge on this subject is less than extensive, Chip Lindsey might be the best option.

Did you read that on al.com? ???

@lionheartkc you will find he will not change his mind no matter how many facts you throw his way.  Just look at our conversations over the past week or two.

I change my mind as often as you do triple 004. But yes it is always a fun conversation between us and we always keep it civil just like me and you. we just happen to disagree a lot. thats what fam does. Thats what makes it fun! I respect his AND EVEN YOUR opinion and he respects mine. WOOOO!!

SW has two years of eligibility remaining.  It remains to be seen whether or not he can become an elite college QB.  Aside from JJ, who has he failed to develop?  As a comparison, who has Lane Kiffin recruited and developed into an elite QB?  He's way more strike outs than home runs.  Matter of fact, I can't think of any QBs he recruited and developed at USC, UT or uat.

Head coaches are allowed (supposed) to delegate responsibilities.  So even if the buck stops with him, something that goes wrong isn't necessarily his fault.  It wasn't his fault we missed on Jonah Williams, but he rightly gets a demerit because it happened on his watch.

People don't have to be in CGM's corner to challenge the criteria by which he's being judged.  Most of us are fine with a just crucifixion.

WDE!

well for starters he took a rb in blake simms and turned him in to a record setting qb his first year on the job. I will start there.

At this point, let's just rehire Rhett and give him $100,000.00 pay raise from what UConn is paying him! $450,000.00 is better than $350,000.00!

To some extent I really don't care who our next OC is, what I do care about is seeing our offense actually evolve and see the fundamentals being taught to our QB's.....and that falls on Gus(offense evolving)

Yes, it's kind of like changing your socks. If you don't wash your feet the new socks will stink too. Sorry, but that's what came to mind. Let's hope Gus will do what's needed.

If Kendall Briles doesn't have enough experience why would some of these other names come up. It would be Spavital or Helfritch type of guy if Gus didn't really want Kendall

So the 2 most likely options at this hour are Chip Lindsey and Spavitol? I would rather have spavitol if those are our 2 choices. GREAT recruiter. check out his all time commits he was lead recruiter on in his 247 profile. http://247sports.com/Coach/Jake-Spavital-1330 lead recruiter for kyle allen, Christian Kirk and kyler murray. Just reading the tea leaves those 2 transferred out because spavitol got canned. We need a great recruiter desperately at the QB coach position. Half the battle is getting great talent to coach up.

Explain how Blake Sims was a running back? He was a QB in high school,,,recruited as a QB and 2 time all state player as a QB.

I may be wrong here, but I thought Sims was playing RB for Bama before he moved to QB.

Yeah. I generally like to wait and read what an insider like you has on the situation :Sing::Sing::Sing:

If I ever claimed to be an insider that would have been a great comeback.

Sounds like Helfrich is being considered also. That's probably your 3-man pool right now. I'd take Helfrich or Spavital. I have some reservations about Lindsey.

Helf called the plays as much as lashlee did when he was "oc" at oregon. Thats why I have reservations about him. Lindsey would just be another yes man hire imo. https://www.espn.com/college-football/statistics/team/_/stat/total/sort/passingYards Cal had the 6th best passing offense in the country last year under Spav. we need a guy who is a passing specalist to mix his brilliance with Gus great run game.

But he called the plays after Chip left. And offense never really was Oregon's problem. Their defense allowed 41 ppg this past season.

He's been the head coach for 4 seasons until getting fired.  They were a top 5 offense the first three and fell off to 15th this year.  Are you telling me that he not only had no real hand in the offense under Chip but also while he was HC for four years?  I'm not buying.

BTW, the reason Oregon was so bad this year was their defense.  They gave up 41.4 points per game.  For comparison's sake, think about how bad some of Auburn's defenses have been since Tubs left.  Here are those numbers:

2010:  24.1 points per game
2011:  28.9
2012:  28.3
2014:  26.7

Agree totally on the bold. Gus is a run-game master and if we can pair him with a passing game specialist it will be huge. Now, how will this passing specialist will like having to call running plays ~60% of the time may be another issue...

I have no clue if he called plays while he was head coach. I thought scott frost did before he left for central florida. All we know is he did not call plays under chip.

You mean surrounded Sims with the best roster in all of college football, including a 1st round WR and eventual Heisman trophy winner, along with the #1 D in football?  He did a good job tweaking the O around him, but he didn't develop him into much of a QB.

(And that reply should have gone to the one you were replying too...my error)

Ok...I'm giving Gus and Rhett credit for taking a DB and turning him into a QB that took us to the NC game.  See the pic in all of your posts.
