Here's a piece from national media, posted mere hours after the Freeze rumor started. From an extremely conservative website, no less:

Most national media outlets won't publish articles about coaching rumors, the same day they started. I am sure if Auburn hires Freeze, there will be plenty negative, national articles to come.

Can we not agree that Freeze "took his medicine" so to speak?  He cooperated fully with the investigation, was forthcoming in what he did, and took his punishment without appealing or blaming others.  If you read about the whole situation, the vast majority of infractions were committed by the prior coaching staff, and the NCAA investigation found that overall Freeze had tried to create a program that followed the rules, but was responsible nonetheless.  He also did not do anything criminal, which is a big deal at least to me.

The whole call to the escort service thing might very well be nothing, as the call was less than a minute long.  This fits the explanation that Freeze gave that it was likely a mis-dial where he meant to dial a 318 area code but hit 818 by mistake.  Unless there is more info about this that I am unaware of, this seems plausible given the less than a minute length of the call.  I have no experience calling escorts but I doubt you could line everything up in less than a minute.

I could see why an active campaign against Auburn would upset folks, but if Cohen hires Freeze, it's a good bet that a significant number of the Auburn people will revolt.  Some things are more important than winning at football.

What's the point of national media pushing those pieces on the day of speculation? They can roll them out ad nauseam if Auburn actually hires him, and they'd get more eyes at that point.

 No I didn't. And I wouldn't want Schianno as my coach. But we, as a fan base, raised hell about Steele or whoever  our coach was to be and we got Harsin. Who I supported, until I couldn't anymore. Our fan base got their way, and we got Harsin. Perhaps we were wrong? I definitely think so. I'll wait and see on this search. That's all I'm saying.

You are on the money with this one.  I have read a bunch of stuff people have said he did, but have been unable to find many of these things in the official report.  When I have been able to find information about some of these infractions, they generally seem a lot less egregious than what has been implied or stated.

I was just trying to say that fans can make a difference. And if someone like me doesn't like the potential new coach, why not talk about it? It's the only time we can potentially make a difference. 

Whether the fans are right or wrong is a whole other question. But hiring Harsin doesn't make us wrong about not wanting Steele.

Not sure I want to ride on the Jimmy Sexton carousel - he just plays everyone for bigger money. The Kiffin deal at Ole Miss smells just like Gus a couple of years ago here. Rewarding mediocrity with an albatross contract. Need to get away from that guy and his clients for now. You know when the Bama job gets near he's going to make sure all his clients are in consideration and even though your coach wasn't going there - you will pay for a raise. He lives for this and all his team of media sycophants pumping the rumor mills.

That is why Freeze got the contract extension.  Sexton was floating his name with us and a couple of others...scared Liberty and ala Gus contract.  Got to hand it to him..he is good at what he does...He got Kiffin a nice raise also

This is on point. Social media is a blaze with this news. Reddit alone has multiple threads in the national CFB subreddit where AU is getting ripped. It's already a hot topic, the sports media is just waiting to push the button.
