Don’t most schools have a big summer recruiting weekend these days?

They’re all followers of Chizic and Auburn.

Isn’t it usually in June?

Chizik and Malzahn held it around Memorial Day weekend every year or first of June….Harsin moved it to later in July.

Been late July the last 2 years. Used to be around Memorial Day before then.

I've always been a fan of Big Cat Weekend because it is about families and social activities, emphasizing the theme of Auburn Family. So I'm hoping this year will be a great weekend for Auburn.

I can see CHF making it the biggest ever if they choose the right date.

There aren't many options with NCAA shrinking down open periods. As added to the thread title BCW is slated for July 29th.

I'm admittedly getting nervous again with how quiet it seems + losing players in the TP.

(Ok, I guess I'm always nervous but yeah.)

This is different from the massive exit of contributing players that jumped ship under Harsin. Of those leaving this time, only one (M'Ba) had much chance of contributing to the Auburn team. I do agree that it would be nice to bring in a few more quality players.

Five-star safety KJ Bolden set to attend Big Cat Weekend

The Tigers are going to have yet another big name on campus for Big Cat Weekend.

Lance DaweJun 28, 2023 6:29 PM EDT

The Tigers are going to have yet another big name on campus for Big Cat Weekend.

Five-star safety KJ Bolden will be attending Big Cat Weekend, sources have confirmed to Auburn Daily.

Auburn has found a way to stay in the race for the high-profile prospect, who includes the Tigers inside his top five schools alongside Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Ohio State.

Bolden, the No. 7 overall prospect in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 1 safety, is an elite playmaker on both sides of the ball for Buford High School (Buford, Georgia), and "could play some offense at the next level" according to 247Sports director of scouting Andrew Ivins.

In 2022, Bolden led Buford in receiving yards (422) to go along with two touchdowns. He recorded 43 tackles on defense.

Auburn's 2024 class includes four-stars Walker White (QB), A'Mon Lane (DB), Jayden Lewis (DB), J'Marion Burnette (RB), Joseph Phillips (LB), and Kensley Faustin (S), as well as three-stars Martavious Collins (TE) and Bryce Cain (WR).

Big Cat Weekend will begin on July 29th.

Is Big Cat Weekend returning to Auburn under Hugh Freeze?

Big Cat Weekend has been one of the most creative and successful recruiting ideas in the last decade, not only for Auburn, but around college football.

Could it return under first-year head coach Hugh Freeze?

According to one of Auburn’s top recruiting targets in the class of 2024, 4-star linebacker Bradley Shaw from Hoover (Ala.), it more than likely will happen this summer.

“I’m really trying to get up there for Big Cat,” Shaw told Auburn Live.

Shaw was not sure of when Big Cat Weekend will take place, but reassured his interest in the event. “I’ll be there,” he said.

Auburn Live has since learned it will take place on July 29, 2023.

While no other recruits have mentioned the big event, it sounds as though Freeze and his staff have already started to prepare for it.

Big Cat background

Big Cat Weekend first started with former Auburn head coach Gene Chizik and his staff in 2009. It was then picked back up by former Auburn head coach Gus Malzahnwho was on Chizik’s staff as offensive coordinator. Then it was picked up by the next Auburn head coach, Bryan Harsin.

It was a relatively new idea in the recruiting world. It was designed as a weekend for fun and games with recruits and their families. The idea was to have a day without the business of recruiting while getting around other top recruits.

Some notable visitors from the first installment of Big Cat Weekend became household Auburn names: Former 5-star receiver Trovon Reed, former 5-star offensive tackle Shon Coleman, and former 4-star linebackers Jake Holland and LaDarius Owens.

Also on hand for the event were a pair of 5-star running backs in Lache Seastrunk and Marcus Lattimore which added to the buzz. Auburn would instead end up with 5-star running back Michael Dyer who was not in attendance.
