Hugh Freeze offers no comment on potential suspensions to Auburn football players

Richard Silva, Montgomery Advertiser

~3 minutes

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla. — Auburn football coach Hugh Freeze spoke to reporters for the first time Tuesday since the university released a statement May 18 saying it had issued "indefinite suspensions ... for violation of applicable Auburn Athletics department policy."

In an email exchange when the statement was first released, AU Executive Director of Public Affairs Jenifer Adams told the Montgomery Advertiser the situation was related to "videos that were posted on social media."

"We don't comment on individuals and their status with any disciplinary issues within our school," Freeze said at the SEC meetings at the Hilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort & Spa. "I really don't have a comment on that."

When the original statement from AU was given, Adams said she could "not comment on specific students" that may be involved in the situation.

"We are aware of the situation and take this matter very seriously," AU's full statement May 18 read. "The appropriate offices are conducting a thorough review. Indefinite suspensions have been issued for violation of applicable Auburn Athletics department policy. No further comment will be provided at this time."

It is unclear if any members of Freeze's team are among those suspended, though a since-suspended Twitter account posted explicit videos earlier this month and claimed running back Jarquez Hunter was in them.

When the Montgomery Advertiser initially reached out to Adams, the email subject line read "Jarquez Hunter Statement."

Following Auburn's statement on May 18, Adams sent another email that said, "Just realized that your subject line said 'Jarquez Hunter Statement.' There is no Jarquez Hunter statement that I am aware of. (What) I sent you is the official Auburn University statement regarding this issue."

I think he has been told this is a school issue and he will have no input.

Therefore, he has nothing to say about the matter until a final ruling comes down. At that time, he can comment on how the decision affects the team.

Sounds completely logical and reasonable.

Well, there’s the problem. There’s no logic or reason allowed on here ! 😝

If players have been suspended, doesn't that mean they cannot attend class? If they cannot attend class, would't this eventually effect their eligbility since they would not be making acceptable academic progress? I haven't seen this discussed anywhere else so I decided to post this to see if anyone knows if this could be an issue.

I love it, and I know some don't. It's all handled "in house" now. Just like at UF, UGA, UAT, etc. We'll find out soon enough, maybe.  HF is not a miracle worker , but if he can keep his nose clean , he's attempting to run a big time SEC West program. If he goes 6-6 and we are competitive , we're probably good. We shall see.

My understanding is that the suspensions announced were university suspensions, NOT simply athletic. They won't be enrolled at all if the status doesn't change

Well, there hasn’t been very much logic or reason exhibited by the AU Administration in so long, folks rarely recognize it any more.

There didn’t seem to be very much logic or reasoning in participating in and posting the videos. That much is for damn sure.

I have not followed this in a while.    Is this  a fact?  It sounds like "good" news.

Do we know who posted it yet?  (we as in fans (public) ,  OR we as in the school's admins)

Yes, it's a fact. The players didn't post anything publicly.

Yes, the school knows who posted the material.

No, the public does not know.

Wonder if they are allowed on campus, I'm assuming not

Bird, the whole fiasco should be an embarrassment to Auburn University and to anyone who associates themselves with Auburn. It takes very low-quality people to even allow themselves to be in this situation, not to mention just plain dirt-road stupid.

I have zero sympathy for all involved and couldn’t care less what their fate with the team is.

As someone who ran naked (streaking in the 70s) and was involved in several escapades that I will no longer mention, I am beyond glad there was no social media to record any of it. All my friends were almost as stupid or even more so. A few of them are extremely successful and well known in their respective fields, and the rest are doing well and raised great kids and pay their taxes, etc. I ain't judging nobody, as my great Uncle used to say. But you do whatever. I can't go there.

Oh, hell, we've all done things we're not proud of. Not judging, Rev, just observing the low-quality stupidity that is ever-so-present.

No, the public does not know.

And the police know.  I wish someone would reach out to good ole Nate Oats...   "Look outside of practice we can't control what these player's do.  They have never been in any kind of trouble and here they were simply at the wrong place at the wrong time."    Seriously, it has been a minute since all of this has become public.   Each day that passes without a charge or an  indictment is a good day.   I have been told the feds refused to get involved (they do have a good bit on their plate right now) and local PD interviewed each woman and none of them had any complaint.   If it stays that way, this should and will go away.

What did they do?

From the bits I grab here and there...

few people banged out some rats. Everyone knew it was recorded and cool with it.

Someone else, (rumors only as to who) got ahold of videos and posted them around different social media sites.

Apparently, self-made porn is illegal in Alabama, or maybe just against student CoC.

Nothing substantial has happened thus far.
