Staff Changes

You would (or at least I would) think that within limits, a good college coach could coach most positions on the field. There is a ton of information and a thousand experts available. I'm not saying coordinators.....I'm thinking position coaches.....and why are these guys all of a sudden specialists at a young age and not capable of moving from WR to RB or QB...wherever?

And why when we change DCs ....and most of our defensive staff....is it necessary to change our scheme and have to re-train the players on technique, etc. 5-2-2 or 4-3 or 3-4 or whatever......seems that a decent DC could handle any of these. Is there really that much mystery here?

So if CWM were to leave, would all our players be back to square one....again...to learn whatever the new DC wants to play ? JMO but that's one of the problems we have with defense....and are likely to have in the future if every new DC brings HIS plan....something different to the team and the guys are having to learn a new system for the second or third time in their short careers.

Staff changes not required. A solid recruiting effort, a solid prepared QB, new and hungry receivers and fairly decent luck with injuries and we should be ready to go.

Thank you! I thought I was the only one.

I am hoping for 0 staff changes.

We have very good coaches.

Staff Consistency is SO important!

Given the obstacles this year, i thought the coaches did quite well.

Coaches' decisions, play calling, etc. look so much better when they work.

Until they prove otherwise, I fully expect this staff to be able to turn things around.

Anyone else find it funny that Auburn failed to meet expectations, became a running joke all season by all media idiots, finished dead last in the SEC W, but EVERY FRIGGIN' TEAM IN THE COUNTRY WANTS OUR COACHES????? I really hope we do everything we can to keep CWM, T-Rob, Grimes, and Thompson. I'm on the fence about Garner. Not sure if our d-line issues the last few seasons were on him, or if it was just injuries and slower than expected player development.

Folks that are actually close to the team and IN THE LOCKER ROOM say Gus and Muschamp get along just fine. Yesterday they were on the road visiting recruits, TOGETHER. What you have there is bamzo BS trying to do damage to our recruiting class, whaich has a large number of early enrolees.

I am not sure that this will get sucked into the other thread on CWM. I think that there are few folks they want CWM to leave. If this does happen, we need to get a new DC asap. My pick would be:

Venables from Clemson. I actually think that this would be an improvement for us. We would have to pay huge bucks to get him. I say that we hire him and pay whatever is necessary to land him. Hopefully, this will not come to fruition and CWM stays in the saddle for the long term ride ahead.

Venables would be a good pick, however I don't see him leaving Clemson... unless Dabo leaves or some other Clemson changes... I am sure Venables will get an HC shot at some point...

This is a scary precedent, lol. We're picking people for a job that's not yet open. How long til a "Who replaces Gus next October" thread? \sarc

But, I'll bite. Don't care, but I'd like to see us expand the typical Auburn affiliation coaching tree. My qualifications would be a veteran DC (no more on the job training guys, we already have enough of those on staff) who's not afraid to hurt feelings but can motivate the hell out of his players. Also, a proven recruiter. Nobody available would have the name value of CWM, so short-term recruiting would likely take its lumps, but I want someone who has an established defensive philosophy and knows exactly what guys he needs to accomplish that, regardless of state or "star count"

One would think T-Rob or Lance Thompson.

One does have to wonder, as it was obvious from the moment we signed him on that Will would be short term in the job (though arguably not 1-year short term) that there might have been an arrangement in place that he would be bringing his replacement up to speed as he coached, if only for the sole purpose of guaranteeing that we wouldn't be switching schemes yet again. if that were the case, I think it would be T-Rob, since they have been together much longer.

I think if Will leaves you need to promote Trob. He's young but he would also finally give us a chance to have coaching stability on the defensive side of the ball. Not to mention recruiting. With the state of the program right now I don't think we have a good chance of being able to lure a big name guy here, especially the guys that are already in a comfortable situation like Venables

If Will thinks TRob is ready -- and I think he'd tell us that honestly -- I'm all for it. Of course, TRob is already under consideration by Durkin at Maryland; and might also be by Will, should he move to USCe.

Could happen but personally I really don't know who we could lure here at this point, with Gus potentially coaching for his job next year

Edit: had a brain fart, idk why I thought follow him as DB coach and not DC. Finals week man

Muschamp is not going anywhere and will be at Auburn for the next couple of years. No use speculating about a replacement when it ain't happening.

I think that's far from certain. If he's offered a HC position at SC, I think there's a decent change he takes it unless he can't put together the staff he wants.

And if he stays this year, I would be shocked if he's still here after the 2016 season.

I pray that Muschamp does not leave. If he does, I think we should give T-Rob a shot. Great recruiter and will provide stability. If Muschamp takes T-Rob with him or Maryland steals him from us, I say we quickly go after Odom assuming he doesn't get the Missouri HC job

I will probably get flamed for this, but what about Pruitt? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Bulldogs had the 8th ranked d this year. Average defense and UGA could have been 5-7 this season.

Hopefully, we get one more season with Muschamp.

I'd imagine Gus realizes Boom probably won't be here very long and already has a plan in place. Boom leaving should certainly not catch anyone off guard.

Yesterday, recruiting together. Tomorrow interviewing for a new job. NICE.

According to a mainstream website quoting a non-mainstream website with unnamed insiders "close to the program".

Honestly, I think it would be best if he did leave. I mean seriously, if he doesn't get the job at USCe then it is just a matter of time. We will be dealing with this every year. What recruit is going to want to come to AU knowing the DC is going to jump at the next HC vacancy. I do wish Will the best if he does get the USCe offer.

I think that if Muschamp does leave, that this will be a decision that Malzahn will need to think about very carefully and quickly as his future is very much going to depend on how the Plainsmen perform and produce next season.
