Before you get too excited, remember that Kirby is widely thought to be the mastermind behind the false commitments to AU over the years. I just refuse to believe it until I see it at least once.

Everyone pines over how we mistakenly hired Gus over him...I've come to the decision that he never intended to take the job and was just trying to string us along so he could humiliate us.

It would be a big freakin' deal if he picked us tomorrow, make no mistake.

Went, he was in his 30's and was making demands like a coach who had 10 years of very successful HC experience.  We moved on and that has proven to be a mistake.  At the time, it wasn't as obvious.

I maintain, though, that without the benefit of hindsight, there were perfectly valid reasons to not pick him (i.e. was he being propped up by Saban--the track record of Saban disciples at that time was spotty at best).
