Biggest Scandal In American History

Recommended Posts

Nothing changes in this country unless you get money out of the political AND, governing processes.  We desperately need extensive campaign finance reform and, an end to paid lobbying.  For most of our government officials, lobbyists have more influence over them than their constituents.

I’d say a President fomenting an insurrection against the US Government and it’s not even close. A good chunk of Americans are too brainwashed to see it, though. Sad!

It looks like a lot of Americans have been brainwashed as to what all the facts are surrounding Jan.6. This video shows capitol police actually escorting the so-called QAnon Shaman around the capitol including onto the Senate Floor. Why would they be doing that with a crazy guy if he was involved in a real insurrection. I'm not condoning what happened that day but a lot is not known and may never be.

If you had told me in 2012 that Donald Trump would be president in 2016 I would have advised family members and close friends to steer clear of you.

Man, I was in a PoliSci course at Auburn when Trump announced he was running. Conservatives and liberals alike in the class including the prof all cracked up and had a 30 minute discussion on how absurd it was, people were jokingly placing bets on how long he was last in the race.  There were very few educated people who thought he would amount to anything in that race.

And now most Republicans would choose him over Christ himself. Oddest thing I’ve ever tried to figure out. I mean, I knew most weren’t really Christian, just thought they had some standards. Turns out— none.

I honestly thought the man would have handlers and become seemingly presidential after the election. That dumb assed idea went up in smoke before inauguration was over.

Helsinki as a low low point. Hoping he would treat Putin like campaigner Trump treated Hillary. He looked more like shamed puppy that had peed on the dining room rug.

Never underestimate a populist message.  No one really knew who he was until he released his tax plan.  Most ignored it, didn't understand it.

I thought he would be managed much better. The way he campaigned it seemed he might even triangulate the two parties on some issues and maybe get some things done. Then he & his party realized he held all the power due to the adoring base. He had zero accountability— that makes a narcissist far more dangerous.

Helsinki should have been a wake-up call for everyone. It certainly was for guys like Joe Walsh.

Amen to that. It's rampant in our country and world these days.

I agree to a point. I voted for Ben Carson in the primary. But then I, like a whole lot of people, when it came down to Trump vs. Hillary it was an easy choice. I think that's the case for a lot here who want to continue to bash Trump. I would still vote for Trump over Hillary. I hope Trump doesn't decide to run again even against pathetic Biden.

So, you would like tax dollars to go to some campaign that doesn’t align with your interests?   I disagree on everything about this way of thinking.    The problem with this country is that election campaigns start way too soon.  There should be a rule that says you can’t campaign until a certain amount of time before Election Day.   In my opinion two to three months before Election Day.

There is this little constitutional thing called freedom of speech that would be a problem with any law instructing people that they cannot campaign whenever the heck they want.  Publicly financing of elections doesn't mean a blank check.  Look to how the U.K. and Australia do this in order to limit special interest money having so much of a voice in politics and the running of government.

To answer your question, yes, we are all Americans.  I don't have to agree with every petty position of a candidate to respect their right to participate in the system.

I have never met anyone that voted for Trump in the primary.

No. My choices for the Republican nominee are in order: DeSantis, Haley, Trump. I haven't as yet heard Christ's position on a number of important issues.

Is that an indictment of the judgement of PolSci people in general or just that particular class?

I don’t want to look at another country to see how they do it.   Doesn’t mean squat to me.   If someone wants to run for any particular office, that’s their choice and I shouldn’t have to fund their campaign unless I choose to donate myself.    As far as freedom of speech, I don’t know where that even comes into play.   This starting to campaign two years before an election is just stupid and a waste of time and money.   If congress set a date that began the campaign process of raising money and campaigning, I see that as a win.

Why would anyone refuse to consider how other similar countries accomplish something?  Are we too good?  That ranks right up there with the reason for doing something being because we have always done it that way.  We aren't special.  We simply happened to have been born in the United States.  People in Canada, the U.K. etc wake up, go to sleep, love their family and breathe the same air as we do.

You can tell someone that they can't formally run for an office until a date certain.  Telling them that they can't rally supporters or raise funds is another animal altogether.

Many in his first administration tried.  But then Trump realized he had absolute power to fire them and hire nothing but "yes" men.

Highly recommend "The Divider" by Baker and Glasser for all the detailed, behind the scenes stories.

This country dodged a bullet.

Trump has a cult like following.  He has had this support going back to the 2016 election.  Because of that, I believe that he had the opportunity to be one of the greatest presidents the country has ever had.  He could have done the right thing and made tough decisions and this group would have followed his lead.

Instead, his insecurities and narcissistic ways drove his decision making.  His supreme court appointments weren't about who would be the best justice to further his vision for America, they were chips on a board used to pacify a segment of his base.  His foreign policy was always the same.

Alright, let's say it all together now, real slooooow: "the first amendment's prohibition on prior restraint and censorship does not apply to private corporations."

I support private companies ability to censor content on their platform. But highly problematic is government officials directing or facilitating such censorship.
