2016 5* LB Ben Davis (Bama signee)

Have we forgotten about Evans recruitment? Granted Ben's dad isn't a jaded former AU guy - but it seems Saban like to have that one guy to claim a 5* victory over AU each year. This would make 5 straight years of an "undecided" 5* considering both schools. Unfortunately, I see Mikey having a LB meltdown and having myself agree with him.

And...? Do you want us to just stop recruiting the kid? Are you going to melt down if we only almost get a kid that nobody thought we ever had a shot of getting? Also, Evans told our coaches that he was committing to Auburn. Davis has done no such thing.

Easy buddy. Im just saying I dont think he ends up here. Ive read my statement several times and still cant find the part where I said to stop recruiting him.

Not sure why else you'd want us to remember Evans's recruitment or that Saban tends to win these battles- especially since Davis's situation is completely different than that of Evans, or Foster, or Yeldon, or CK- but ok.

Whether we like it or not - we all want the same thing here. That is to win like bama (spare me the integrity crap we all know). That starts with recruiting like bama. We have been close, but we have missed on some big pieces over the years. Eventually we have to start landing some of the Fosters, Evans, Alexanders (Kwon and Mackinzie), and Davis' that we can pair with guys like Carl and Monty before they graduate or go pro. If we land Derrick Brown and get to pair him with Byron Cowart - how would it look to have Tre/Davis/Holland as options at LB and Carlton sitting back at the corner? That is how you build championships and create the ever elusive consistency. Davis wont make or break AU - but could help start the right trend we all want.

Yep. Which is why we're recruiting Ben Davis very hard and haven't just conceded him to bama like many have suggested that we do.

Notice I did not bring up Yeldon or CK and please notice I mentioned the Evans dad factor. I would possibly argue, now that you mention it, that AU needs to find a way to win the CK type battles. I dont buy that he was confused which school he was choosing. If big time recruiting is dirty we should at least have a grass stain on our knee.

Point taken and I agree with you there.

Would grass stains on both knees be ok or better?

Hey, this is a family board! =)

You said big time recruiting is dirty on the "ask me" thread. Some years it seems we watch others play in the mud and reap the benefits.

Some of us fight the good fight. AU can't get away with the stuff uat does. The Alabama media would be on AU like white on rice.

Honestly, that was the response I was waiting to hear. Just waiting for the day the good guys win consistently in the world of college football.

His recruitment is very odd. If uat really wanted him and he was all uat like most here think than no way would Saban allow him to visit AU this weekend. It's like uat is interested but not totally interested. Does any of that make sense?

So did they not want Evans? I think they use certain guys like this every year to try and make us look bad. Unfortunately it usually works. I'm putting it at a 1 percent chance he comes to AU (not that my opinion matters)

Totally different families and class of people. Ben Davis and his parents are totally class acts. They have been upfront with AU from the start.

I'll root for Davis even if he signs with uat.

So what have they been telling AU? Do we have a shot or not?

I'm glad we aren't going to let Bama just have free reign but let's be honest, there is no way he is signing with AU over Saban. We don't need to waste too much time on him for sure.

I agree. Lest you believe he's playing us when he says Auburn is sitting at number 3?

It's not a waste of time or resources. Steele & Davis are both from Gordo.

I was thinking the anti-Auburn Bama media would be on Auburn like flies on $#!+, but okay I digress.

Lol. No. He asked if I truly thought we were #3 right now for BD & I said I do. And I now see my error. I should have expressed differently. I think he is genuine saying we are #3 & I think it's god we moved up from 5 to 3.

A guy who lists you as #5 then after visiting with coaches moves you up to #3 is not playing you he is being honest. Playing you is saying you are #1 or tied for #1. #3 means we probably won't get him but there is an outside chance like maybe he is thinking about starting as a freshmen or PT as a freshman.

The reason so many got upset about Evans is he pretty much said he was going to Auburn, even told coaches that then went to bama that is playing you. The side effects are still being felt not so much on the field as a lot of very good sources got burned by Evans and many on this board because they were wrong through no fault of their own. Because of that many are staying away.

I hope those sources still read this board and will please come back we need you and your sources. Remember the way to heaven is through forgiveness of others sins. Please forgive those on this board those who in the heat of the moment overreacted and blamed you and your sources.

Ben seems like a really good kid. And all things being equal, I think he really likes Auburn and could see himself playing here. So I don't think he's jerking us around like Reuben or others have. But being a turd legacy and all the pressure that comes with that, I don't see him bucking that to go to Auburn. I'd love to be pleasantly surprised, but I think our realistic chances this kid spurns his father's history there and all the expectations of the turd nation are in the single digits.

Probably true, but he could build his own legacy at Auburn. Outside the shadow of his father's legacy.

But everything I have read, it sounds like he has a good relationship with his father, and therefore probably wouldn't feel the need to get out of his father's shadow. He might be thinking that he can further build that legacy with his own contributions.
