Potential offensive changes coming

Is there real evidence that Gus even WANTS Art Briles or is this just on 50% of fans' wish list?

I thought Briles the younger was supposed to be the deal to bring Stidham in and it doesn't appear he was even on Gus' radar.

I suspect Gus' career will live or die with Gus calling the shots...good, bad or ugly.

I am so tired of all of those premium sites. I was foolish enough to subscribe to one of those that I shall not name, and after a month or 2, I realized what a huge waste of money it was. This site is as every bit good, if not better than the pay sites. So much for my midnight rant. We are getting hammered with heavy snow at the hour. It looks like we will get around 9-12 inches when it all ends mid-morning.

i did the same thing, doc, and came to the same conclusion that you did after 2 months....never again....i may disagree with some,( the sunshine boys, mostly) about various things, but  i still advertise this site as the best AU site going on at this time

unless he gets help, i don't see next season ending well....too many former players are not happy, along with important others

just to follow n the beer i bought a four pack of pin stripe peanut butter beer and it was kind of like a stout. i was not impressed. us geezers do not care for much of anything stout unless it is a viagra or something. and then i am only guessing. wife was about to bust me on viagraand in a panic i hid em inside the hummingbird feeder. once people got past the ducking and dodging most friends that stopped by in that legendary month  got a nice little shot i the behind...............lol yes that was bad. hey i am 61 give me a break.....

I hope you're right, it will take some big pressure to change Gus's natural stubbornness. But if he is willing to adapt, Gus can become a very good offensive mind, again.

Kendall was and is very much on Gus' radar. If Gus had his way he would be o .  the staff now. He was overruled.

As paranoid as Gus is reported to be, I can't see Art Briles on the staff unless it is forced on him and that scenario would not end well.  As Bird says, Kendall would be the one, however, that ship has sailed.

How was he overruled.    I'd be taking people down if they even attempted to overrule me as the HC.

Well there you..based on this is it ok to presume Gus apparently wanted to make a change, and bring in another OC/QB guy, but was overruled by someone higher up. This does not sound as if he has complete control like many other head coaches. Also it shows that he may be willing to look at fresh ideas and let Another manage the offense, but only someone who shares his philosophies. Just a thought.

HC's have bosses they answer to and their bosses have to comply with others as well

Not over my program.   I guess Gus is not successful enoug, just maybe that is the AU issue!      What would happen if Nick or Urban was denied, no need to consider as it wouldn't happen.  That was part of Nck's deal before he ever signed is,  I am in Charge, and results speak for themselves

You can count on 2 hands though the number of HCs in the nation who have that kind of autonomy.

And it's not AU's only issue. Gus has some weaknesses on his own coaching as well. Hopefully he is learning though.

Folks need to understand that college football is a very big money business. A lot of things that happen have to be looked at from a commercial aspect. Taking on someone that had been dismissed elsewhere for such reasons could potentially be a major economic disaster in the form of media and public backlash. Not only that but it could also cause backlash by NCAA investigative bodies and even legal actions involving title nine. It has more cons than pros. That is exactly why there is a group that oversee Gus and insure his compliance with objectives that will keep AU profitable as well as relevant. WDE

Having the son would not have impacted any commercial business.  Just look to our left if we want to see how to handle backlash.

It sounds a little like the baseball fiasco from two years ago where someone, that shouldn't,  has a little too much input.

I agree, and they are the ones that are consistently competing for titles.     This isn't about breaking rules, but about whether you want to be a consistent top team?

They also earned their autonomy through their success. They weren't given their autonmy then the success follow. Other than 2013 Gus has not earned that yet. There would still likely be hurdles though at AU had he earned it.

Probably count them on two fingers.

And some who had that autonomy ...or thought they did,.... are no longer coaching at their schools.   JMO but all fans here who want a coach who does not answer to anyone must not remember the coaches who apparently thought they did not answer to anyone....got their schools in trouble, got fired and left others to pick up the pieces of the athletic program.

Auburn is not quite yet a farm team of the NFL....so until that occurs,  let's act like an educational institution first and remember what the school's mission is.

More than 2. Dabo, Jimbo, & Harbaugh off the top of the head as well. Stoops may as well.

Exactly my point. The better they got or proved themselves the automy they got.
