Finebaum: CGM to Arky plausible

This seems to me a beware of what you wish for situation. I have observed finebum pushing for Gus to go to AK for quite some time now. I think he wants Gus gone from Auburn because Gus is still a threat to his beloved bama. Remember Gus has beat saban twice which is more than anybody else has done save Ole Miss and the bama TPB have certainly addressed that situation. . I want to see how the rest of the season goes before I join the "off with his head" crowd. Hopefully the LSU game has knocked some common sense into Gus and he gets back to the offense that got him to where he is. One thing I have learned in life is that  you learn by your mistakes. Hopefully this has sunk into Gus's mind also. The problems are the buyout and who do we get for a coach? I hope calmer minds prevail here. There is  still a lot of football to be played so its a little  early to start building the scaffold. JMO

First, I do not think Finebaum really cares much about Auburn, Alabama, Gus, or Saban.  He knows his audience, and he knows how to play them.  Second, Gus is 1-3 against Saban's Alabama, where the sole win came from a play that has its own Wiki entry.  Even that fantastic play came as a result of a field goal Alabama was kicking to try to break the tie, avoid overtime, and win the game.  I doubt Gus is causing anyone, aside from our fanbase, to lose any sleep.

Purely for discussion as I understand how unrealistic it is for him to jump from FSU to AU:

Jimbo, with our roster, would likely be undefeated right now and have us in the top 5.

I just find it implausible that he'd want to step down to Arkansas. In part, because Arkansas' expectations are about as high as ours, and they have so much less to work with. It would be almost Curry to Kentucky surprising.

We fired Tuberville and Chizik not because they had individual bad years but because they established negative trends that lasted three years. That's where we are right now. 2013 was great, 2014 was frustratingly good, 2015 was awful, and 2016 was not good enough.

FSU has consistently outranked Auburn in recruiting.  Jimbo arguably has more talent on the roster at FSU than Gus does at Auburn.

I agree and I want that extra bump in recruiting to come with him

Chizik did not have an established trend that lasted three years.  Chizik was 8-5 in his first year, won a BCS National Championship in his second, went 8-5 in his third, then went 3-9 and was fired after his fourth year.  He also replaced both coordinators heading into that fourth season.

Definitely wouldn't have lost to LSU. Would have made a much better game vs Clemson. Say what you want but the man can coach QBs.

The buyout alone should ensure that Jimbo stays at FSU, unless FSU waives it in order to be rid of him.  Considering that he profits dearly if FSU were to fire him, he would be foolish to leave.  FSU fans are questioning clock management, player development, and his loyalty to assistants.  One of my best friends is an FSU fan, and he was just discussing those three things at lunch today.  I do not care enough about FSU to know if those complaints have merit.  If they do, I would rather Auburn focus in a different direction.

If Jimbo Fisher came to Auburn, I would most likely not watch the games.  I don't want that scumbag in any way associated with AU ever again.

Yep, I forgot about that.

The coaching profession is pretty tight, word gets around and coaches and their agents know how Auburn athletics operates.  That's why Auburn always has to find a good "fit" and not always the best man for the job "fits in" with Family.

I do not know why Jimbo turned Auburn down in 09.  Maybe we are more attractive now.

On Sportscall Thursday, maybe Friday, it was mentioned by the anchors in the last segment that Gus gets "forgetful" when things start to "improve." That sets me on edge even further if true. Learn, but STAY LEARNED!!! (That is my classroom world...regression is profanity to me, but I will admit PATIENCE--LONGGGGGGGSUFFERING--coupled with no seemingly plausible explanation aren't my strong suits. And that's on me.)

On the subject of Jimbo Fisher: Some here want to fire a head coach whose team is 6-2 and hire one whose team is 2-4???? Stop and think about that for a few seconds.

yet they say that Gus doesn't develop a back-up Quarterback, it looks like Jimbo didn't either. Personally , I will pass on Jimbo.

I'm not a big Jimbo fan myself but its not his freshman QB that is the problem.  Its his offensive line.  Francois got beat to death last year and Blackman is getting beat to death this year and they have trouble running the ball consistently.

There would be no bump in recruiting because of Jimbo. He gets those players because it's FSU. The entire culture there is way, way different from Auburn. By and large, the two schools attract different personalities.

He would absolutely turn Stidham in to a first round nfl draft pick. Dude is one of the best QB developers in the game. Our WRs talent would finally be used properly.

Jimbo is the one realistic HC candidate ( I only say he is realistic now because of the season they will have this year.) out there that is a elite recruiter. I do get what you are saying about personalities and AU attracts totally different players. They get guys with more swag and more of a edge to them. They get the "cool" kids. The tough guys. The alphas. We get the guys who are looking to have fun in college. Looking for that family atmosphere where they will be taken care of and coddled. FSU attracts the same type of kids bama do. The ones who are looking at this purely from the standpoint of what school gives me the best chance to get to the league. That is their main objective. FSU is viewed by recruits as a cool school. Auburn is not.

Also LAUGHABLE at the people who says they would not want to have jimbo. Are you that impressionable that a proven really good head coach having his 1 and only bad season as a coach is enough to make you not want him?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! I would walk across hot lava over the length of Jordan Hare to get jimbo to come here. It would be viewed as a home run hire in the media and create a major buzz. His records at fsu are: 10-4, 9-4, 12-2, 14-0, 13-1, 10-3 and 10-3. SO hmmmmmm what is the outlier here? the 2-4 start for him this season or the 5 straight seasons he got to 10 wins or more? I mean I am over here just begging wishing I could in my lifetime see AU get back to back 10 win seasons once!

Assuming you are correct in your analysis, what would hiring Jimbo do to change that? Nothing. Also, Jimbo is nowhere near a realistic candidate. A 39 million buyout means exactly what it is intended to mean: Jimbo stays put at FSU.

39 million dollar buy out is insane guys . Not to mention he would want top dollar to move from FSU. I think he is a good coach but that is way over paying .

Jimbo would have a complete cultural change. He is nothing like chizik and gus. That is how. 39 million? Well I did not know that. That is unheard of. WOW. JUST WOW. good for jimbo. Bad for anyone who wants to hire him.

I am glad you mentioned the buyout of these coaches @Mikey. Got me really curious. We need to see what potential new head coaches buyouts are in the event Gus has another November to forget and we are shopping. http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/
