What would Ricardo know about a QB he has never seen?

JJ would have to become a different person/player in the next 3 months IMO, if he is to have a shot.

I expect Louis to support JJ his teammate the last 3 years, which his comments do.

But he has no clue who will be the QB. Did Louis know that JJ would throw 6 INTs in the first 3 games? uh..no.

So, it will be who performs the best in spring, doesnt get hurt, or sit out of practices, and shows better QB leadership qualities.

And then lets all cross our fingers, say 3 Hail Marys, and carry a rabbits foot.. to ensure our QB can get us 10+ victories...))

Nick Marshall was a tough kid

Can JF3 handle a beating? We shall see. Can't wait

Agree. I can't understand anyone that is bashing the kid before he has even logged ONE practice. (Smh) I hope he sets the doubters on their......doubts.

Not bashing the kid. Even the AU coaching staff is very concerned if JF3 can take a SEC beating and last next year. I'm told JF3 is better runner than Nick but does not have the arm that Nick had.

Does this mean in terms of arm strength or more closely tied to his accuracy? Because NM had a cannon.

Assuming all things equal (I know that they won't be), how does a NM-type of player with a weaker arm fit with the offense? It seems the ability to hit on passes 40 yards down (or just the ability to throw it deep down the field posed the threat of connecting on a long one) the field to Sammie Coates was a huge reason why our run game was so productive. If we have to keep everything in a certain box I feel like that hurts our run game as well because the safeties don't have to worry about anything behind them.

I like the prospect of having a QB with elite speed/quickness back there because we are breaking in 2 new starting tackles. It is my opinion that SW was better at buying time and extending plays than JJ was. However, with 2 new OTs it might be tough for JJ OR SW to be effective because they just don't hurt you with their legs and it's obvious Gus looks way better when a QB can bail him out of some of his play calls. As is the case with any coach -- not bashing Gus here just pointing something out.

Marshall could throw it from end zone to end zone. But do we need that?

There's also the questions of accuracy, mechanics, decision making, reading the secondary..... A lot more to throwing the ball than arm strength.

TIFWIW read an article on SaturdayDownSouth that quoted Ricardo Louis as saying JFIII is a great talent but he believes JJ will start vs Clemson.

If Jeremy is going to start in the Fall, then I vote that the A-Day game has live quarterbacks.

Gus will never ever do that w/ a QB he does not plan on RSing.

What do you think the odds are of a two QB system?

There might be.

Just more of a short yardage or goalline situation like we saw last year.

About the same odds that Gus gets fired next season. ;)

As of right now good. SW has shown Gus that he can play but more important is SW has shown Gus he has matured as a person.

I'm told that NM had the strongset arm of any QB in AU's history. Even better than Cam's arm. NM could throw the ball over 100 yards. JF3 has a pretty strong arm. Has pitched B-Ball his whole life.

SW has shown Gus he has matured as a person.

Very interesting.

2 QB system. Ugh. (Until it works, then Gus will be a genius again, of course.)

What I mean is I can see SW winning the battle but JF3 playing in certain situations.

Ahh, gotcha. I argued awhile back that UF ran a 2-QB system in 2006, but it was correctly pointed out to me that it wasn't really a 2-QB system in that Tebow was really just a package guy. I could get with that, especially since Franklin could run routes, reverses, jet sweeps, etc. and just generally be that guy that allows us to move the QB around without substituting. Do I remember correctly that Percy Harvin took a fair share of direct snaps at UF? Except I don't know if he ever threw the ball.

This is just my opinion, but last year we morphed into a two QB system due to many factors (injuries, red zone efficiency, etc). The two QB system in the bowl game was SW in between the 20's and JJ or Kerryon in the red zone. We can speculate as to why, but without any inside knowledge, we don't know the real reason.

Without someone really stepping up during the spring and fall we could start the season off with a two QB system. I know that NM started the 2013 season with only being at Auburn during the fall, but he did not have a lot of competition for the job.

This spring we can only rely on insiders for accounts from the practices for information concerning the QB competition. Come the A day game we, as fans, will not see a whole lot of what JF3 brings to the party as far as running ability because of the "no contact" jersey on and will be ruled down before he can show his stuff. We should be able to see his arm talent though.

I could see Auburn starting the season off with a two QB system, but not ending that way. Someone will win the job out right a few games in. It could even help with the first game being Clemson with a lot of new starters on the defense for Clemson. They won't be able to have a lot of film study what ever QB will play.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what develops.

There's only two scenarios where I would be comfortable with a 2 QB system. The first is if we have a QB who is a short yardage specialist and can punch it in 80% of the time. By all means, bring in the second QB in the red zone. Otherwise, if you have a great running QB and a great passing QB, I could see playing one against teams with weak run defenses and the other against teams with weak passing defenses. Otherwise, trying to play two usually just kills rhythm, and Gus's offense requires rhythm.

NM could throw the ball over 100 yards.

I'm sorry but I'm not buying this. There has never been documented proof of the best QBs in history throwing more than 85 yards much less 100.
