Hey, I'm all for what brings the "W"... no disagreement there.

I have just always believed a dominant run game is more "aesthetically pleasing".  Doesn't mean I'd bite my nose off to spite my face.  That's one reason the NFL fell out of favor with me.  Used to be Walter Payton, Tony Dorsett, William Andrews and better. Now its all about Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers... Just ain't as satisfying to me.  Just my opinion...

I go along with you there. I also quit watching the NFL for a number of reasons, most of which is the lack of the running game. Unfortunately the game has changed in both college, and professional football in the last 25 years. Linemen allowed to hold on every play, and receivers getting away with pushing off has drastically changed the game. I believe it has been by design to a degree. Offense sells tickets I guess.

Gus give it a break no one is going to buy your crap anymore. I am sure JJ told Gus to go ahead and hire Chip but be prepared to call the moving vans early next year. Gus was the one that played this to the media trying to make it look like they wouldn't let him make his pick. Gus is nothing more than a spoiled child in a grownups body. Pitching fits and always blaming his mistakes on someone else. I am glad he hire Chip it will ensure his departure from AU. I was a Gus supporter until I saw how immature he was. Good coaches accept responsibility for their mistakes. Gus he pushes his of on others. Rhett just wound up being this years scape goat. Craig was last years and Ellis the year before. I use to think he was an honorable man, I know longer consider him as such. It gets better at AU next December when we hire an adult to coach these young men.

You're so full of horse crap, it comes out your fingers when you type. You and a few others on here need to find a new team where everything goes just like you want it too.

You are wrong. You just don't want to admit it. Lindsey served only one year with Propst out of a decade while serving as a HS coach in some form. To say that Lindsey "came from a coaching tree of sleeze ball HS coaches" just because of that one year is downright deceptive if not a blatant lie. And if im an ass for making you eat your mistake, so be it.

I find it highly revealing that nobody else has a problem with that statement.

He worked with Probst. So did Pruitt. That's part of his coaching tree. That is a fact. You claiming it's not part of his tree is the blatent lie. I also said none of that had to be bad meaning it doesn't have to have any bearing on who he is or what he took from those situations. You are finding the tiniest details to argue ad nauseam with and it's downright petty and disturbing. Nobody cares anymore what you think because you have destroyed your credibility by treating everyone like garbage. Maybe if you occasionally acted like a remotely decent person more people would engage in regular conversations with you. You are the one to blame for the fact that everyone on this board wants you to stop posting.  Personally I think you just need a break to calm down and regain some semblance of composure. Right now you are out of control to the point that even if you make a good point somewhere, it is going to get lost in the constant vile you are spewing. It's at the point where if you don't either stop treating everyone like garbage or decide to take a break on your own, the mods are gonna force you to take one.   Try being a decent person, quit cussing at everyone and make comments without attacking every possible detail you can come up with a reason to not agree with.  "Calling" someone on something you don't agree with by treating them like garbage is petty and childish. You lose any and all credibility your disagreement may have ever had when you react that way. The reason everyone here now reacts to you with an attitude is staring back at you in the mirror.  Change the way you treat people. That's the only way your opinion will ever matter.

This is truth ^^^^^

I wonder if the holding allowed is by design to protect qbs.   Unfortunately, it's only a few teams qbs that actually get the extra protection

I, too, gave up the nfl, a long time ago.  I haven't watched an entire nfl game in 25 years or more.  Same with that hideous product they call the nba.  Boring as hell, gave up watching that horrid display over 30 years ago.  Baseball too.  They have just really never been fun to watch for me.  College sports is so much better, IMO.

Back to Lindsey....I don't remember lots of excitement when AL Borges was hired back in the day but he proved to be the right guy to correctly utilize our incredible talent. Hopeful that Lindsey has a similar effect. Now if Gus will just get out of the way and let him coach and play call we'll find out.

Early, upon announcement, I was lukewarm to it to say the least.  However, the more video I see/info I read and IF Gus is true to his word at the press announcement, that CCL has full control, then added to the talent coming back I'm rapidly warming up to him.

MLB is a total joke. Anyone who spends their money to watch MLB is being stolen from. The guys you see on the major league diamonds are not necessarily the best baseball players in the country. MLB is much more about how much money the team invests in you when they draft you. I have first hand knowledge of this with a family member who is now in the independent league hall of fame, inducted with Pedro Guerrero, and could never crack a major league starting lineup. Had the general manager of the Braves actually tell him he was probably the best player in the organization, but it was " more complicated than that." A 6'4" 235, power hitter, who can steal you a base, and flirted with . 400 in his last season in the independent league. Anyway, rant over. I'll never spend a dime of my money to watch the farce that is professional baseball.

I give an over under at 5 games next season before Gus is fired and I am probably a little high. And no Chip is not a good hire he is mediocre at best. Might have been a good choice for a QB coach, but the only reason he is the OC is he agreed to let Gus call the plays, something Rhett refused to do any longer and not to fire Gus's other yes men Kodi and Herb. Next year we will see if we can go hire a real coach.

I'll also take the over.  What are the terms.

What an incredibly ignorant and uninformed post.  I'll ask for examples of him blaming mistakes on someone else.  I know you can't provide it because you are just talking out of your ass and making things up to fit your opinion.  Ellis a scapegoat?  You really are completely clueless and football ignorant.

The KEY is Gus' letting Chip Lindsey calling the plays.... This is the part that will not happen.

Again, more made up crap you have zero proof to support.

Really, without Gus he would not even be in the job he had at AZ.

Again, football ignorant.  He was hired at Arizona State based off his SUCCESS at Southern Miss.

Seriously has anybody here ever seen so much UTTER FAILURE from one poster in the same thread?   I'll guess personality disorder, because It's hard to imagine anybody in their right mind making up so much unfounded crap to support an opinion.   Now, someone get the whitecoats to escort this person back to his padded room so the adults can discuss the hire.

Oh, if I got started on my disdain for MLB we'd be in for a thread derailment of epic proportions!

Agreed. CCL seems t have a knack for attacking defenses creatively and is adept at getting his playmakers the ball. One thing for sure, he will have a lot of proven weapons.

I don't know about this hire. I'm not an insider. I'm just glad there is a hire. Auburn is metaphorically going for it on 4th. Maybe it will work.

I don't think any HC wil give COMPLETE control away; especially Gus. He'll no doubt put his stamp on the O in one way or another.

well he needs to. His Offense has sucked the last 2 seasons. especially in the passing game. I trust gus to implement a passing game plan against sec competition about as much as I would paul johnson.

But there was a lot of praise when Tony Franklin came in because we thought we were going to run his offense. Well we didn't and I don't think we will run Chip's either. I have a fear this is 2008 part two. We like to repeat things here.

It is what it is! The results will tell at the end of the day. I run hot and cold on CGM. I, like so many of us just want to see a good product on the field. I can like whomever as long as Auburn is competitive and wins consistently. What an embarrassing start of the year and end of the year.  If Lindsey wins, then he is the man, if not, I hope we don't linger along before finding someone who has been there and done that. I think we are close, if CGM can last long enough to master being a HC.
